Looking for Positive Feedback About Nuance - Incognito

Posted: Mar 31, 2015

Hello,

I am considering applying for a position at Nuance, but I am concerned about all the negative feedback I have been reading consistently. I was wondering if anyone has had a good experience with the company?

Thanks so much!!! Cool

I really like it so far. It may take you a little time to build up your lines. Email me, and we can chat.

I'm really tired of the lying that goes on by those above the MT level at Nuance. More of it going on lately than usual. This is obviously not a real MT. It just is not possible given the current state of affairs, unless this person is a complete newbie AND this job is merely for "fun money" AND he/she obtains insurance elsewhere. Otherwise, I call BS.

absolutely! that's - not real. nm

Sooo, you've read all the negative feedback and - Really?!?!

[ In Reply To ..]
want to ignore and take the job anyway. Basically, you just want someone, that one person who actually likes working at Nuance to make you feel better about your decision.

Why the pretense of asking for feedback at all? Just continue to delude yourself that Nuance is a great place to work and move on.

Like with all companies there are some downsides. You cannot usually get everything so I do not have a lot of negative things to say about them. The only thing I do not like is inconsistencies say in how their procedures are or protocols. This comes up from time to time...nothing major or daily. Possible not getting answers/responses quickly enough; however, I never had this problem until now with a new TSM. Pay is always on time, with the new play plan my pay went up quite a bit and has stayed that way for quite some time consistently, flexing is usually not an issue although taking off completely might be, depending, and I do not run out of work often. I do get trained on multiple accounts so as not to run out, which some people complain about; however, I feel if you can master multiple accounts it just makes you more valuable as an employee and looks good on your part. It's not that hard, just takes some time, as does anything. I do not have anything too bad to say about them. I am sure 90% of the people on here will say otherwise but that seems to be the going theme on here (negative). I try to make everything positive and quite honestly its not that bad. Every employer has drawbacks. Hope that helps.

Thank you so much for your kindness in your response. I am not currently working for Nuance....just considering.

my experience - newtonuance

[ In Reply To ..]
I was hired on the first of the year, chose Nuance because of the "new" pay plan and opportunity to tier up in line rate. They have since changed the pay plan on me so I no longer have the same opportunity, which is really quite misleading as they should have explained this was going to occur. For new folks considering Nuance, be aware that the pay plan/formula can and probably will change. I like the account I am on and my TSM... but quite discouraged that they yanked the pay plan that they promoted in January away from my account.

I think it might be more helpful to ask a different question--sm - anon

If you were to state what you would be hoping to get out of employment at Nuance, people on here could tell you what their experiences have been with that particular issue. Nuance has thousands of employees so experiences will vary. The pay scale covers most but some of the day to day things will of course be dependent on supervisor and account.

I used to be happy - Tired

[ In Reply To ..]
I used to be happy until all this pay stuff started. I have a good primary account and I am a fairly high producer in the LPH category (usually between 220 and 260 LPH). When they rolled out that first pay schedule I was thrilled. My pay jumped about 20 percent. I actually thought they were rewarding me for being a good producer. Then the last pay change came in and it is just insulting. Even at 300 LPH there is no real reward anymore. But since I have to pay the bills, I have to keep on until I can come up with some alternative. They have completely destroyed any loyalty I had for this company. I hope they are happy now.

Only as a last resort - Gina

[ In Reply To ..]
I would come to this company only as a last resort. I've been a transcriptionist/MLS for 15 years. I've worked for Nuance for 3. I am on a team where I edit radiology reports only and do not straight transcription. Three months ago they cut our pay in half. You will likely make between 9 and 12.00 an hour. You will not be able to afford the health insurance if you are married or have children. The monthly copay for married is 750 and for married with children is over 1,000; both have a 6500 deductible. You will also have endless frustration with an IT staff who will never get anything right. Proceed at your own risk.

Only YOU can make that decision about Nuance. I love them, I am 60 years old and I have never worked for a better company and I have been through a few in the last 20 years. You can't let yourself listen to the negativity here on this board. You get out of it what YOU put into it.

That's about the most ridiculous pile of nonsense I've - heard in a long time.

[ In Reply To ..]
You get out of it what YOU put into it? No, they've made sure that we NEVER get out of it what we put into it. We can't even get paid for 100% of what we put into it. We get constant pay cuts and don't even get me started on FIESA. You get out of it what you put into it. That's delusional.

maybe you need to find something else to do. It is obvious being an ESL is not your thing. Because you do get out of it what you put into it.

[ In Reply To ..]
Lady, if you think that all these MTs have "put into" getting horrible dictators and accounts that even QA leaves the reports looking like swiss cheese, dealing with dishonesty and yet remaining dedicated to the JOB, you, for lack of better words, in my opinion appear to be self centered.

What team should I transfer to - Gina

[ In Reply To ..]
Sounds like you're on a good team Penelope. I'd like to transfer to it. Do you do straight transcription or editing or both? I just want you to know that I've worked in many aspects of the medical profession including the military and my experience here at Nuance is unsatisfactory, so clearly it must be that you are on a team with an unlimited work supply that is not penalized with deducted lines on the new pay grid. Lucky you! Are there openings on your team?

I suspect "penelope" is at supervisor level, right "penelope"? sm - acuteMLS

Let's see. Here's what I've put into it: I've sacrificed one and sometimes two weekend days every week, week after week and month after month for years, most holidays, lots of family time and sleep so I could chase down lines due to being OOW. I've beaten up my body by sitting in this chair for waaaaay more than 40 hours a week trying to get my hours in. I've honored my schedule. I've scrutinized reports to ensure perfection. I've not bailed when things seemed ominous (time and time again) due to assurances from my TSM. I've worked OT any time it was offered. I've changed personal plans that were in place because "flexing" was the only option. I've jumped through each and every hoop that has been placed before me and we all know that is a lot of hoops. I am not alone when I say I've put a lot into this. What MORE are we supposed to put into this job to avoid the pay cuts, lies, reduced benefits, and the sense of being completely disposable? It all seems a bit lopsided, don't you think, "Penelope"?

I love the company. I think that maybe if you are an editor things are not so good from reading the posts on here. I was hired as a straight typist, otherwise, I would quit. I am my sole supporter. There is money in this company if you are a go getter to earn it.

Feedback - nearlydefeated

[ In Reply To ..]
I think there is a "honeymoon period" with this company. The recruiters sell this place like it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. Or, if one was acquired through a buyout, things do stay the same for a period of time, albeit a short period of time. So, initially, things CAN seem sort of positive all things considered.

Reality sets in though. I have been here for a number of years, brought in through a buy-out. I was not happy with the changes that were made in pay, but I had a great accounts and a great TSM. When they implemented the "new and exciting pay plan" I even made better money sometimes. The QA got pickier, the things we had to do unpaid increased, insurance was more expensive for less coverage. Still, I tried my darndest to focus on the positive as my personal circumstances make a job outside the home nearly impossible.

Then the big bomb dropped recently with the big pay cut for the platform I'm on. Simultaneously, I realized my TSM, who I have always genuinely liked and appreciated, was less than honest with me about a number of things. My pool has obviously changed on the accounts I loved so much. So now the pay stinks, my pool stinks, and I no longer trust my TSM. I feel devalued, unappreciated, disrespected, frustrated and kind of like an idiot for thinking "it's not really THAT bad" for as long as I have. I'm honestly incredibly disheartened with and depressed by this most recent pay cut the the realization that my TSM is one of them and not "one of us" as I had previously thought. That in and of itself is sad; it shouldn't be an us vs. them situation. We should all be on the same side for goodness sake. That's how this company operates though. Pitting QA against the MTs, management versus us peons, etc.

Anyway, that's just my experience. Clearly everyone's is different.

There seem to be some who are truly doing well here and are happy. Given the huge workforce Nuance employs and the many types of accounts they must have, certainly that could be possible. (I wish I knew which accounts those were! I'd request a transfer!)
For me, I've been very disappointed, and the wages are what bother me the most. You can have years of experience, work hard, and it just doesn't matter. I don't mind doing ESLs, for the most part, but my pay shouldn't plummet just because it takes me longer to do those, or because I have to send reports with blanks for QA (monetary punishment attached to that, if you send 10% or more of your lines to them). I've calculated that I make about $10-11/hr at best. I consider myself pretty fast and have many years of experience, so that's pathetic. The family health insurance is also expensive and has a horrible deductible as well. Otherwise, I have a good team lead and stay out of trouble, but I certainly could not recommend this company to anyone.

Positive items - well

[ In Reply To ..]
You can be positive that slowly but surely the work on your account will be shifted off-shore.

You can be positive that when you are out of work due to the above work volume shift that you will be required to make up your lines at hours that suit the company's schedule, not yours (a scheduled 8-hour day easily turns into a 12-14 hour day or more).

You can be positive that the current pay scale will change in 12-18 months (that is the pattern this company uses) and the pay scale will not be beneficial for the MT/MLS.

You can be positive that QA will nit-pick your work to pieces.

You can be positive that you will be required to acknowledge, and held accountable for, the QA you receive regardless of whether you agree with it or not or even if the scoring is incorrect.

There are many things you can be positive about at this company, but very few, if any, of them are positive situations for the workers.
