some POSITIVE feedback on LDMTS ? - OLDTMR

Posted: Apr 20, 2014

Can somebody give me some POSITIVE feedback on LDMTS that has worked for or currently works for them. You can post here or reply by email.

Low pay. 3 cpl for editing, 6-7 straight.nm - kittykat

Another LDMTS question - bb

[ In Reply To ..]
How often do they pay? Also, do they offer Direct Deposit or pay by check?

LDTMS - Faithup

[ In Reply To ..]
Do you enjoy working so hard and then get nothing for it? The owner does have a lot of experience in the MT world..but she lacks empathy, compassion and honesty.
I think that is - the classiest
[ In Reply To ..]
negative review I have read in quite some time!

When I spoke with the owner a while back - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
She was trying to convince me how "good" front-end/back-end (one or both) speech wreck was and then she told me I would have to pay for software to "work for her" to the tune of about $200. Also, the pay was very low. I hung up.

That's really interesting with the $200 - nn

[ In Reply To ..]
I am really surprised that she won't offer to take that out of one or two checks. Last company that I worked for, I had to purchase a license for the Bytscribe Wav Player, which was $100 and that is for a LIFETIME and how ever many computers. I was able to have the company take it out over 1-2 paychecks.

forgot to add that I have an interview later this week with them - nn

[ In Reply To ..]
but I may pass on this. If she won't allow something like payroll deductions no sense in pursuing it.
ldmts - mt
[ In Reply To ..]
Maybe you should interview and see what she tells you rather than just take everyone's word. It's nice to get feedback, but I wouldn't just pass up the interview just based on what a couple people say here. I have an interview this week and if the pay is actually that low and I am told I have to pay for something, I will politely decline. Maybe she pays based on experience and maybe she doesn't make people pay for whatever it is someone said she makes you pay 200.00 for. Being an IC, though, it is your responsibility to pay for whatever it is you need to provide your service for someone. This is an IC position. If it was employee, then the company is responsible to provide everything.
Question - nn
[ In Reply To ..]
Answer: Me 33.
You: Hmm not so much.

I know how to ask and answer questions. I will form my OWN opinion of the company based on what is mentioned during the interview.

PS-- worked in Human Resources; however NOT for an MTSO and this was BEFORE my MT "life."
6 cents and 3 cents does not even equal - minimum wage?
[ In Reply To ..]
Bottom line. Doesn't matter what good or bad or making up one's decision on how the interview goes or what you have to pay for. You are working for taxes. Wow, what this job has become and we are all desperate.
Pay - MT
[ In Reply To ..]
Well, pay is low but it isn't much better anywhere else and probably won't ever be. I am a QA and get paid hourly, but when I do MT, I can do 200+ lines typing which means i would make a minimum of 14.00 an hour on a good day and editing I can do 400+ which means also 12.00 minimum on a good day, still low for what we do but it is above min. wage. If people don't want to pay for what they need to work then don't apply for IC positions and then complain about it. I prefer IC status so i have no issue paying for what I need and writing it off at tax time.
And as an IC, that $200 is a tax write-off. - nm
[ In Reply To ..]
x
Big deal..tax write off! First work for 2 months for 200, then pay half in taxes! - keep working 24/7
[ In Reply To ..]
x
Isnt tax write-off better than none? Gotta grab your opportunites - where they show up. nm
[ In Reply To ..]
x
No...not for 3 and 6 cents. Plus inhouse everything was supplied and we HAD decent living wages. - Then IC was 13 cpl also!
[ In Reply To ..]
In-house we were compensated with benefits. IC, you have no benefits. This is not a job anymore it is no different than foreign sweatshops.
Those times will never return. Again, grab opportunities were - you can. And if you dont need sm
[ In Reply To ..]
that $200 you get as write-off, you can send it to me.
oh stop - living
[ In Reply To ..]
desperately, grateful for crumbs. No way to live.
Not desperate here but glad government gives IC - tax breaks. nm
[ In Reply To ..]
s
Not sure a $200 tax break justifies working for cruddy wages. sm - JMO
[ In Reply To ..]
I value my time and if people keep accepting such low pay, the wages will continue to plummet.
JMO - Old Pro
[ In Reply To ..]
I completely agree with you. If MTs keep accepting low pay/bad treatment, it only encourages unscrupulous MTSOs to continue their bad behavior.
LDMTS - CLA
[ In Reply To ..]
I have worked for LDMTS since December. I didn't have to purchase anything to work for her. Just downloaded EditScript off of the website. The pay may not be the highest in the industry, but she allowed me to pick my hours and there is always work available if I want to put in an extra hour a day or extra time on the weekend. QA is great! I have absolutely no complaints. No stress with this job as I have had in others and I'm still able to work at home, so a little less pay for me is worth it!

Editscript - MT

[ In Reply To ..]
I am not sure what software you were told you had to pay for because they use Editscript and there is no fee for anything which is exactly why I think people need to talk to the person/interview themselves and not just take people's word for it on a board. Maybe in the past they used something different but there is NO 200.00 fee for anything. As a matter of fact, there is no fee at all to work for them.
As far as pay goes, .03 - .045 has always been the standard pay for SR and most companies are going to it. It's been this way since at least 2007 and I have never seen or heard of a company paying more than that. Straight typing pay has gone down but there aren't many companies left who do just straight typing. I personally prefer SR. Editscript is by far my favorite platform and I can easily make 15.00+ an hour on it. You just have to find the right company and accounts. Working for .03 to .045 is not desperate when it comes to SR if you can produce 500+ lines per hour. It's not hard to do. You should be able to do 2 or 3 times more lines doing SR than with straight typing. So, if you can only do 200 lines an hour doing SR, then, no, you won't make any money at it. SR pays half what straight typing does because you should be able to produce double or more the lines doing SR than with ST, which common sense tells you the pay would be equal or more if you are actually productive. It's not slave wages, it's not peanuts. It's common sense really.

Fee - MT

[ In Reply To ..]
You aren't paying a fee for software. She will withhold a fee of 200.00 IF you quit within 60 days and/or quit without giving a 14 day notice. There are a other companies who charge fees as well because of time it takes to train and then people just quit without really doing much work. If someone is serious about working then the fee shouldn't be an issue.
Just an FYI it is speech rec, not speech wreck.

Fee - MT - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
I think we are all well aware that it is speech "rec." I can only speak for myself, but I think there are many of us who choose to call it speech "wreck" because it's, well, a wreck.
Speech Rec - MT
[ In Reply To ..]
Maybe you should find another profession then if you dislike it so much. So much negativity. I guess I've been lucky to have good companies because it's not a "wreck" for me. I make good money doing it. I also QA and have been doing QA for 5 years. Times change, you have to role with it. If you can't, move on.
speech rec - catherine
[ In Reply To ..]
wow...are you a troll, management or just a **itch?
And dear...the word is ROLL...unless by ROLE you meant playing a part...which is what I asked? WHICH ROLE are you playing????? TROLL..MANAGEMENT OR **itch.

Most of us have found that speech recognition sucks suck sucks sucks sucks. and how lovely for you that your life is so fabulous that you dream in cartoons and fart rainbows.
catherine - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
Fart rainbows, love it - thanks for the belly laugh! I am the poster about speech wreck and he/she chose to give me the (unsolicited) advice to get out if I didn't like it and to "role" with the changes. Actually, I am just about out. I recently graduated from school (again).

Cool for you! I know that there are a lot of us "negative" MTs who are getting out, trying to get out, thinking about getting out, dreaming about getting out and then there are the lying ** itches who tell us how fabulous their life is. Personally I think the rainbow farter should just shut up because if I can't make it work...and I am a good MT and work my backside off...then no one else can either. Congratulations on moving on! I hope your life becomes as fabulous as the farter said hers was. Really! I KNOW you deserve that..because we all do. You give the rest of us hope!

LDMT info - MT

[ In Reply To ..]
Here is the scoop on LDMT

They pay .03 lines for SR, .07 lines for straight. Which has been the standard pay for both the past 7+ years with most all companies, with some companies paying .035 for SR and .08/.085 for straight.
It is 99% SR.
They use Editscript/Escription.
It is 100% outpatient, no radiology, no acute care.
They pay once a month the end of the first week but she has until the end of 2nd week to get pay to everyone but generally it is paid by the end of first week - no specific date for pay and pay is for the entire previous month worked. It's direct deposit only.
There are about 70 MT's working there.

LDMTS -- I Think Not
Apr 24, 2014

Just had an interview with them.  Nothing was said about $200.  Pay offered was decent 7/3, apparently a lot of ESLs.  However, the KICKER for me was when she said "MONTHLY" pay and that they usually paid the second week of the month.  Being my only support, I cannot live like that and a landlord or bank when payment is due is sure not going to understand that. Something Positive To Say
Mar 27, 2010

I get on this site every now and then and it is so disheartening to see so many people frustrated with their employers.  I work for two different companies and I have to say I love them both.  I work for OSi and I work for All Type.  Both treat me fairly, respond rapidly to questions and are nice employers.  I've always been paid on time, they both understand emergencies and I make a good income from each.  There are good companies and there are nice people to work ...

Something Positive

I just wanted to mention something positive about MT, my experience.  There are a lot of negatives posted about the MT field on this board, and I'm not discounting anybody's experience, as, yes, there have been changes in this field, and some of those changes have hit people hard and are not fair.  I just wanted to give encouragement to people who like MT that there are some positive things/companies still going on.  I have 7 years of experience.  I graduated from C ...

Some Positive Words, Please!

Not everyone is unhappy with MT work right now.  Lots of times this board is filled with much negativity and I think it is a disservice to each other.  Sometimes we need to vent, but sure would like to see people with more positive things that are happening in their life post on here, and not just read on here.  I think it is unfair to dissuade newcomers to the profession.  Give them an accurate vision of what it is like, both pros and cons.  But, I think it's wron ...

On A POSITIVE Note
May 20, 2012

I know it's rare for this board if, heaven forbid, anybody put anything positive on here. I've complained on here just like everyone else about low pay, low work, etc., but the bottom line for me is: I love the company I work for and have a great supervisor; they let me know from time to time that I am appreciated and let me know I was missed when I am gone (on vacation or whatever); they do their best to make sure I have enough work; they do thoughtful things, such as send birthday ...
