I just wanted to mention something positive about MT, my experience. There are a lot of negatives posted about the MT field on this board, and I'm not discounting anybody's experience, as, yes, there have been changes in this field, and some of those changes have hit people hard and are not fair. I just wanted to give encouragement to people who like MT that there are some positive things/companies still going on. I have 7 years of experience. I graduated from Career Steep and have always had a job. I started out making 2.5/5 cpl, mostly VR. I knew this was low, but I got a lot of good experience on many acute care accounts. I went on to another company making slightly better at 3.8/8.3 cpl, mostly VR. I then found a great straight transcription company (which I prefer ST) who does not offshore, paying 8.5 cpl. I have worked for them for a few years, and I recently got a promotion, of sorts, to 10.5 cpl to learn multiple accounts and be a floater. This may scare some people, but to me, it's job security knowing multiple accounts. I got this position because I proved myself and worked hard for them. There seems to be a notion that you can't do better in MT, but this field is like any other, you have to start somewhere and you have to work hard, and not always, but sometimes, yes, you are rewarded for doing well. I consider myself so blessed to have the job I have. I love it in every way. I do not write this to brag but to offer hope to others when we hear negatives a lot about MT and MT companies. I know that this could be pulled out from underneath me, as that has happened to many a good MT in the past, but for now, I am happy and thankful, and I just want people to know there are good positions and good companies out there, but you have to kiss a lot of frogs in this industry before you find your prince of companies. Good luck to everyone!
