Just got hired by Nuance - Excited

Posted: Sep 28, 2012

After 8 years as an IC, I am FINALLY going to get some PTO and much-needed insurance!  Yes, I AM super excited about working for Nuance!!!  The recruiter that interviewed me was AMAZING!!!  It is a big change for me, but I believe it is going to be a good one :)

Congratulations! nm - anon

I am with you. When I started, I, too, was excited. My how things change. Picky QA that make you feel like you are not smart enough to be a MT, etc.

So sorry - my condolences

Yes this company sucks. Beware of the Nazi QCs!

I was an IC too for 10 years before I was hired by Nuance. I've been with Nuance almost a year now and I do only editing, no transcription. For the most part, I like it. Like you, I never before had PTO or benefits with any company and as you well know, self-employment taxes stink. The staff at Nuance is very nice, the tech support is great at Nuance, the pay is direct deposit, and you will have benefits (I only signed up for the eye portion because I have other health insurance). Plus, you'll get to contribute to a 401K if you'd like. The only complaint I have had so far is that I do, on a daily basis, run out of work several times a day. In my experience, they seem to have too many people on each account, but I have yet to make on less on production pay than I made on hourly (12.00 an hour) when I was first hired. I also had to buy another computer so that I would have access to more accounts. Apparently, they do send out company computers, but I wasn't given that option (team leader told me it was hard to get a company computer, but someone on the same team got one shortly after I asked about it, weird). Anyway, being as that there are so few transcription and editing jobs out there that pay anything anymore I think Nuance is a good company to work for, but you likely will not make anything close to what you were making as an IC. Then again, you'll have to factor in the PTO, benefits, 401K, and the fact that you won't be paying self-employment tax. One more thing, unless you're close to retirement age, you might want to start planning for training to supplement your career in the medical field because as the VR software continues to improve, the competition to keep the remaining spots will increase. Ultimately, transcription is just a small part of Nuance as a whole.

Hope it works out for you. - RC

I work part-time for Nuance and part-time as an IC for local doctors. I hate working for Nuance and only did it because I lost a huge account to EMR.

The pay is god-awful. I don't know how people who only work for Nuance get by. If I didn't have my local IC work, I'd be up to my eyeballs in debt.

enjoy your excitement...I was too 4 months ago...needless to say, I'm over it now :( Seriously hope your luck is better than mine.

Nice to hear about someone being excited and I hope your experience is a positive one. I was just as excited, but after ridiculous QA and running out of work during the week and them begging for weekend workers EVERY weekend, I have to say that has taken away all my excitement.

I hope your experience with Nuance is better than mine.

Welcome to the ++++iest +++hole of all companies - nm

Seriously, just because you can't seem to make it work doesn't many there are not MANY successful MTs working for this or other companies that you people seem to ***ch about all the time.

Yes, I am excited to start my new job, and I am sure I will be pleased by what the company has to offer me. (And no, I am not a newbee excited about finally getting hired without a clue about what real-world MT is about... I've been with my current company for eight years and work in-house before that for a couple of years).

I am just trying to be a positive person and making the best out of what is happening to this profession.

Who Has Recently Been Hired By Nuance?
Mar 26, 2012

I would like to know who was just recently hired and how was your experience?   I for one have been hired and am not able to start until my computer meets their requirements.  So I had to put in more memory and also bring my Microsoft Word up-to-date -- 2007.  Just hope this was worth the expense.  For some reason, I have a bad feeling about the job itself.   Hopefully my fears are wrong.  Let me know what you think.   ...

Just "hired?" By Nuance...sooo....
May 22, 2012

Ok...so, I applied, tested, etc for Nuance and they made me an offer.  However, since that time I've waited 2 weeks for training to begin only to be delayed by the system going down yesterday.  Now it looks as if training will be rescheduled for July?  Really?...Recruiter said she would check with her boss because "this just isn't fair" and "I'll call you right back."  That was 2-1/2 hours ago.  No call back.  So...I've started receiving email up ...

Will I Get Hired?
Sep 06, 2010

I have a question for all MedQuist MTs . . . I called them and was told that I qualified and passed MedQuist's test. That was about a week ago. I was told that I am still being "considered" and "reviewed." One recruiter told me that it would just be a matter of time before they could get through all of the paperwork. Another recruiter simply told me my file was still being "reviewed." What does this mean? Does MedQuist always offer jobs to those that pass their testing? Or is it possible t ...

Just Got Hired!
Sep 27, 2011

I am told that I just got hired by Nuance.  Am interested in what people have to say about the company.  I have read that the first part of this month, they were running out of work.  If so, do they really need me? Also, am interested in insurance costs?  Some straight answers would be most appreciated. Thanks, Charlie ...

Does Anyone Ever Get Hired....?
May 30, 2012

Does anyone ever get hired from these companies who are continually posting help wanted ads?!?!?  I have applied to at least 15 companies posting ads for help only to sit here waiting for at least 5 weeks, so far, for an answer to any for which I applied!  I have been a medical transcriptionist for over 20 years as well as a QA worker for over 5 years.  My resume is on par with what I consider to be some of the best, yet I never receive an answer to my applications.  I realiz ...

Too Old To Get Hired?
Jul 26, 2013

Should I stop saying I have 31 years of experience as a transcriptionist? I try not to date myself by putting dates on my resume, like when I graduated. I am 61 and will be 62 next June. I have not worked since March, but I made so little money that I get way less than 200 dollars a week from unemployment! I have applied everywhere, outside the house and inside. I have attended resume counseling at the career center, nobody is interested in helping me pay for any schooling, they change the s ...

Anyone Hired?
Apr 24, 2015

All the ads on the job seeker's board have hundreds and even thousands of responses.  Does anyone ever really get hired?  One of the ads wants someone to start "within the next hour," and that was a few days ago and it now has hundreds of responses.  Why is that ad still even posted?  Only rarely does a company take its ad down or post a message when positions are filled.  Do the other companies just not care?  Can it be that all those hundreds and thousands of ...

Newly Hired MT
Aug 31, 2010

Hello, I am new to the forum and recently hired as an at-home MT. It has been a year since I completed college MT courses at a tech center. The employer, saw my resume online. I have a p/t job that I've had for 2 years in addition to the MT job. Both jobs, are flex in hours, although the MT employer would like full-time. It pays 8 cents for every 60 characters. I would really love to drop the p/t job because it miserable in many ways. Can someone break the pay down in other terms? W ...

I was hired for my first transcription position and filled out the paperwork Aug 4th.  They said after the platform was installed on my computer (done Aug. 19th) the training would begin.  The trainer has not communicated w/me at all.  When I emailed HR and asked if training would begin this week (Aug 21st) the response was "hope so, but I have been on vacation and am not sure".  I emailed HR again yesterday (Aug. 24th) with no response.  They had been ver ...

How Much MT Experience Is Too Much To Get You Hired?
Nov 15, 2011

I spent last week typing test dictations for transcription jobs. After typing five tests today for one company and then 3 more for another company I am wondering why I haven't been called back on any of these jobs. I have heard of having too little experience, but is there such a thing has having too much experience that a company is afraid to hire you because they think you will demand to be paid too much. Even though I have 10+ years experience I am willing to take 7 cpl just so that I c ...

Has The Q Hired A Flunky?
Jan 09, 2012

I've been getting the impression that the Q is paying someone to contest all the negative posts.  In the last week or so, as soon as something negative is posted it is answered almost immediately.  I do not think an MT could be working and still be immediately available to do this.  I've also never met anyone personally who defends this place. ...

Why Didn't I Get Hired?
Aug 27, 2012

I have been a MT for 30 yrs. I had to stop working 4 yrs ago due to health issues, then finally had 2 surgeries which pretty much took care of the problem. While I was out on disability I got a grant, went back to an AHDI approved University and took refresher courses in MT fulltime for a year. Now, I'm ready to get back to work. I submitted a resume to M-Modal last week and just read they are not considering me. Is there a way to find out why? I'm a good transcriptionist and I want to ...

What Are My Chances Of Getting Hired Anywhere
Aug 31, 2012

I have two years experience but my experience is not recent.  I did not graduate from a school or course, rather, I was trained by an MTE and by someone who had a general practice that they typed for.  Eventually I was able to take over the general practice but had to give it up because my husband's health was critical. I would like very much to get back to MT work but the ads I'm seeing are not conducive to me thinking I'm going to get hired......  What y'all ...
