Will I get hired? - Jennifer

Posted: Sep 06, 2010

I have a question for all MedQuist MTs . . .

I called them and was told that I qualified and passed MedQuist's test. That was about a week ago. I was told that I am still being "considered" and "reviewed." One recruiter told me that it would just be a matter of time before they could get through all of the paperwork. Another recruiter simply told me my file was still being "reviewed." What does this mean? Does MedQuist always offer jobs to those that pass their testing? Or is it possible that I am out altogether?

TIA for the feedback.

Jennifer

Hiring - MT

MQ is famous for over-hiring, so I'd say you have the job. They do have people wait, though, because all newbies (no matter how good you are) always get put on Full QA Review their first couple of weeks. They're not wanting too many full QA people all at once as it stresses the department with too much work which is why you are waiting.

My own curious question: You want to work at MQ because...

Just understand that however they treat you during the recruitment process is likely the best that you will ever get from them. In other words, if you are finally hired, expect worse treatment after you start.

At least, this has been my experience with MedQuist. I'll be gone in a week.

Maybe they are thinking of you for a specific position to fill whenever someone else quits, but you would think that they would want to get you set up before that time. Maybe they are just jerking you around to see how you will react. They seem to like those best who complain the least, as seems to be true with all MTSOs.

I don't know if you are hired or not, but the postings on this board scared me to death before I started working for Medquist nine months ago. I almost didn't take the job b/c of what I heard on here, specifically. But, I took the job. Maybe I am just blessed, but the longest I have ever been out of work was about 20 minutes. My CMT replies pretty quickly to any problems I have had, but I haven't really had that many at all.

Don't let these posts scare you. Just do your job as best you can and see what happens. Not all of us have a horrible time with Medquist.

Hello .... I have 2 years experience in acute care, and just got hired by MQ and this is how it went:

I was notified by email 2 days after taking the test that I passed, and 10 minutes after that I received a phone call. Both email and phone call were to set me up with a phone interview/screening which they scheduled 3 days after that. That same day, I received an email that I successfully completed the interview, and needed to fill out an online application. I filled it out that night, and then 2 days later was offered the position and officially hired with a start date for training.

Just like Shel, I almost didn't apply to MQ because of posts on here. However, I have 2 friends who both work for MQ and have never run out of work. Ever. They both love working there, and have no reason to leave.

I think it will depend on who your supervisor is for liking or not liking your job.

I would call the recruiter again and ask why you are being reviewed so much. Is it possible they stopped hiring for a bit? I find that hard to believe because they are offering a sign-on bonus for level 2 MTs so after 6 months of meeting my quota and being at work on my scheduled days I will get a $500 sign-on bonus.

So, I'm not sure what is going on in your case, but I would call the recruiter again, and again.

People may not like MQ for certain reasons, but if you are employed by them, you can literally move anywhere in the country and keep your job. I am moving from the northwest to the east coast in 1 month, and they have all my changes ready for me.

Hope this helps? Be persistent!
and I second that - pushindapedal

The few people who work for MQ and post here represent a very small, bitter group of people who are completely inflexible about any change.

I have been with MQ for 3 years and still love it. The platform is great and I very rarely run out of work. I have had 3 different CCMs and they have all been fabulous to work with.

Don't let the hysteria monsters here scare you.
Thanks to all! - Jennifer

Thank you all so much for your feedback. I will call the recruiter again, and again, until I find out what is going on. I guess I would like to know one way or the other.

I was offered a position at a different company doing IME work, and I want to stick with acute care because I don't want to get locked into 1 specialty. I accepted the position, but I was hoping that MedQuist would come through so I could get my acute care experience. (New grad, by the way).
and I second that - whatever

Hysteria monsters? From August 16 through August 31 I got exactly 211 jobs. Now I do radiology and get paid by the report not the line. This lack of work is not hysteria, its a fact.
Thank you... and I run out of work daily, every shift - but I suppose that is just hysteria

I pray that these people keep on with their good luck and I pray that those of us with no work get a taste of the good work also.

I guess if I reapply and take a pay cut, I might get work for awhile too.

Hysteria, no just facts. Oh and they may or may not be able to find us accounts to go to because work is low everywhere.

Does anyone else get the feeling that those posting all the upbeat comments on MQ are management posing as transcriptionists? Sure honey, take the job, just as long as you don't need money!

You are 100% off the mark. I am not in management nor have i ever been. I am Tier III, working for nine months with MQ. Instead of berating those who are blessed enough to be working, and constantly being upset, why not find another job. I quit my last b/c of no work and found new work. Just click over to the Job Seeker's board and there seems to be plenty of jobs. I am helping to support my family and if I wasn't making enough, believe me I would find another job. But, I wouldn't spend my time putting down my current employer - but testing for other positions. I DON'T APPRECIATE YOUR FEELING THAT WE ARE MANAGEMENT JUST B/C WE DON'T HATE OUR JOBS. That is just not fair.
frustrated - whatever

Excuse me, I believe you were berating those of us who have no work as being hysteria monsters.

Wrong again. That wasn't me. I had the very first post and then those came after.

Irregardless, everyone has a right to their opinion. Finding a job is important these days, and I know that I started out with a higher line rate than most, but cutting it to 60% and using a VR system that is very time-consuming for me has definitely hurt financially. Maybe it will be a step up for you. When I began years ago in this field the pay was less, then the hospitals started to respect the profession and we were gradually paid better and competitive wages. Now it seems MQ is a monopoly using the overseas pay standard argument internally. I cannot have any more added difficulty than I have already endured and will probably leave having given it my best shot. Either the industry does not work for me, the platform is hard for me to adjust to as an long-time transcriptionist. I have no rhythm any more. My computer has major errors in its programming and/or the program or antivirus slows down so much I get frustrated and want to quit for the day. It has been difficult, but this is never acknowledged. I don't know what it looks like in the office and from the CCM's point of view, but I am gathering that they feel for us because they know what is happening is not right. I wish you the best of luck. I personally feel the new MTs/MEs been used profited from and misinformed, encouraged to spending valuable time and money on an education and then with real job experience finding out what a catch-22 that has been. It has for me, and I think it is to the detriment of the so-called quality and professionalism that we are striving for. It has been taken to the extreme and not to our benefit, but to the hospitals looking for more cost-effective product and the overseas companies growing at tremendous rates. The U.S. profession has been gutted and the benefits far between and disappearing fast. I am still here due to a financial issue that will end next year. I have hung on through all the difficulties and the minimizing support from IT. If it has not gotten better by then, I plan to by that time found a new profession where I can use my talents and be reimbursed. Hopefully we won't have more economic turmoil in the states. If you are good at IT, you will do well. For me it is changing too fast to be remunerative.

Just Got Hired!
Sep 27, 2011

I am told that I just got hired by Nuance.  Am interested in what people have to say about the company.  I have read that the first part of this month, they were running out of work.  If so, do they really need me? Also, am interested in insurance costs?  Some straight answers would be most appreciated. Thanks, Charlie ...

Does Anyone Ever Get Hired....?
May 30, 2012

Does anyone ever get hired from these companies who are continually posting help wanted ads?!?!?  I have applied to at least 15 companies posting ads for help only to sit here waiting for at least 5 weeks, so far, for an answer to any for which I applied!  I have been a medical transcriptionist for over 20 years as well as a QA worker for over 5 years.  My resume is on par with what I consider to be some of the best, yet I never receive an answer to my applications.  I realiz ...

Too Old To Get Hired?
Jul 26, 2013

Should I stop saying I have 31 years of experience as a transcriptionist? I try not to date myself by putting dates on my resume, like when I graduated. I am 61 and will be 62 next June. Anyone Hired?
Apr 24, 2015

All the ads on the job seeker's board have hundreds and even thousands of responses.  Does anyone ever really get hired?  One of the ads wants someone to start "within the next hour," and that was a few days ago and it now has hundreds of responses.  Why is that ad still even posted?  Only rarely does a company take its ad down or post a message when positions are filled.  Do the other companies just not care?  Can it be that all those hundreds and thousands of ...

Newly Hired MT
Aug 31, 2010

Hello, I am new to the forum and recently hired as an at-home MT. It has been a year since I completed college MT courses at a tech center. The employer, saw my resume online. I have a p/t job that I've had for 2 years in addition to the MT job. Both jobs, are flex in hours, although the MT employer would like full-time. It pays 8 cents for every 60 characters. I would really love to drop the p/t job because it miserable in many ways. Can someone break the pay down in other terms? W ...

How Much MT Experience Is Too Much To Get You Hired?

I spent last week typing test dictations for transcription jobs. After typing five tests today for one company and then 3 more for another company I am wondering why I haven't been called back on any of these jobs. I have heard of having too little experience, but is there such a thing has having too much experience that a company is afraid to hire you because they think you will demand to be paid too much. Even though I have 10+ years experience I am willing to take 7 cpl just so that I c ...

Why Didn't I Get Hired?

I have been a MT for 30 yrs. I had to stop working 4 yrs ago due to health issues, then finally had 2 surgeries which pretty much took care of the problem.
