Found this on another bulletin board about QA - sm

Posted: Dec 17, 2013

I copied this off - "As for now, it seems like the QCs have been instructed to drag the postaudit scores below 99% of all the ITPs crossing 30k lines per month and thereby causing a significant reduction in payout. The QCs are really nitpicking. Furthermore, they would pick a report from 2-3 months back and say that there was this mistake in that file. This really sucks..."

- This makes perfect sense to me, I did have good audit scores until I got to 30k lines.

Was this specifically a - Nuance site?

Can you divulge where you got this from? This is a pretty big deal if true, and if true of this company specifically this is definitely a case of wage theft and maybe there is something to that idea.

Personally, my wages have halved in about 3 years. I feel that the "bonus" is not a true bonus at all, but a way to take away pay further in the guise of improving quality. I think the sham bonuses are Nuance's way of turning us all into a minimum wage work force and this is truly wage theft.

What MM is doing - old and burned out

[ In Reply To ..]
MM has a policy of reducing MT pay by 3 cpl if you send more than 5% of your work to QA. Obviously if they put you on 100% QA, 95% of your salary is reduced by 3 cpl. They now require 99.6% accuracy and are finding anything they can to fail you on audits and immediately put you on 100% QA. Looks like both of these companies have the same plan but may be going about it differently.

Reduced by 3 cpl? - Does that include ISR?

[ In Reply To ..]
Because then you only make 1 cpl? Wow, that is pretty shocking. Not sure which one of these awful policies is worse. Thanks for the info. I guess they both have to compete to see how bad they can treat us MTs and get away with it. Unfortunately, as bad as they want apparently.

When these kind of race-to-the-bottom types of policies are punitive pay scales are put into practice by the huge MTSOs that eat up all the other companies, you just have to wonder how any of the smaller MTSOs can compete at all. I have given up even trying to change jobs since twice during the application process the company I was hoping to switch to was bought out by Nuance!

There must be some way we can fight this. I feel like if they say they can't compete financially without doing this kind of thing, why don't they just send all the work to India? At least then there might be a few MTSOs who don't offshore and are known for that and you know they will be slightly better for MTs at any rate. But no, they all want it both ways where they pay peanuts to the Indian MTs and then claim they have to compete by doing these punitive ridiculously convoluted practices just to get their bottom line down and keep their shareholders happy.

Wage theft is a real thing and that is what this is. The National Labor Relations Board might be somewhere to start, but it's very hard to find the time when you have to work 2 jobs because your wages have been halved but your bills have not.
Not sure what ISR is in this case - old and burned out
[ In Reply To ..]
but yes, 1 cpl. Presumably they would have to make up the difference between what you then earned and minimum wage and after a few weeks of that would let you go. They did this to me and others after 20, 30, 40 years of good work and although I was earning 10/6, I would not work for 3 cpl and thus retired.

I posted this story a number of times on the MM board and was reamed for being redundant but thought I would post it here as well so as many MTs as possible know what's going on and that certainly changing from Nuance to MM is not going to help anyone.

Here is the whole thread with link - sm

I m frm India and working as an Independent Transcription Professional (ITP) for Nuance. I agree with all the negative comments above. Nuance has got only goal in mind and that is to keep the payout to ITPs as minimal as they can. They are constantly looking into devising new ways for paycuts. As for now, it seems like the QCs have been instructed to drag the postaudit scores below 99% of all the ITPs crossing 30k lines per month and thereby causing a significant reduction in payout. The QCs are really nitpicking. Furthermore, they would pick a report from 2-3 months back and say that there was this mistake in that file. This really sucks...

God, I just remember the days when MT was a decent career in India. Nuance has just spoiled everything.

Changing industry - good or bad - at whose cost Hi Everyone,It is great pleasure to meet you all. At the outset, my deepest solace to all in the forum, despite prevailing uncertainties in the industry, we all hang together hoping change to come. No industry has seen so many transitions than MT industry and technology once laid to help human, has come to point of overthrowing humans in all verticals. Today, we are most laid back when compared to others ITES or BPO industry.Good what we lost and ...

I'm Glad I Found This Board
Mar 12, 2010

I am really glad I found this board.  I felt really alone.  It's nice to know I'm not the only one who thinks MQ is making a profit off of the MTs.  Being cut in pay for ASR was bad enough, but this first time right stuff is too much. I am going back to school and I'm getting out of the MT business.   ...

I just found out that even though I am doing the minimal required lines (120) I am not earning minimum wage and so even if I increase my lines I won't make any more money....Until I am typing over 160 lines.   I am so angry.   Now they are pressuring me to get higher lines so I can get out of them paying minimum wage.  Which is insulting in itself.  I am going to try to do it and then be a benefited employee.  But I am just angry that 120 lines doesn' ...

Something That I Found Very Interesting
Nov 21, 2009

Just for the heck of it, I went to the resume section of this board, and noticed there were quite a few MTs with "entry-level or less than 5 year's experience" wanting to be compensated 10-15 cpl  -- I really seriously doubt that is going to happen, especially for a "newer" MT.  I would suggest that if you are really serious about finding a job in MT, then revise your expected compensation rate to something a bit more realistic. ...

In my quest to improve SOMETHING, I stumbled across "job burnout."  I think it is my problem and wanted to share. "A strong signal that the burnout victim is sliding into an existential crisis of meaninglessness is evident when the person's statements about work are cloaked with a "so what?" or "why bother?" attitude. This is particularly striking among burnout victims who were once very enthusiastic and dedicated." There is some very good information and might be helpful.  At ...
