find an MT job? I'm currently with a horrible company (you guessed it, starts with M)...and would like to try elsewhere, but I am worried that another MTSO won't hire MTs in California anymore because of their strict employee laws (which are fair to the employee but I'm sure employers don't like)......

So, any CA MTs out there who found a job fairly easily recently? Thanks in advance for any replies.

I've applied at out-of-state hospitals (not MTSOs) who advertised for at-home MTs, no mention of having to live in their state. But, all I get are rejection letters.

To make matters worse, in-house work is very scarce here in CA, and for the most part non-existent in northern CA.

It's very depressing, but I'm determined to get out of the MTSO "hole" and back into a *real* job again someday, so I just keep on looking.

I'm wondering if an MTSO would be the same.....not wanting CA MTs... - Kiki1

I understand wanting to get away from an MTSO, but have you tried to apply with any? Wondering whether CA MTs who have tried to apply to nationals get rejected.

I wish you luck in getting your "real" job. I'm sure if you keep on looking you will eventually find what you are looking for....

and before they offer you a job that they would know in advance that you live in CA. That's good news to hear, though. I hope I have the same luck. Can I ask how many different MTSOs you have worked for in your 17 years? Have you gotten a different job fairly recently?

You're right - there's a lot more work in S. Calif. - than there is in N. Calif.

Not sure where you got that idea. When I do nationwide job searches there are more jobs in No. Cal than there are So. Cal. I don't count MTSO's because you are not always working on a client in your state.

How strange! When I do nationwide job searches, - it brings up more in S. Cal. than N. Cal!

had difficulty finding a job with an MTSO and suspect it is because you live in CA (they probably don't like the fair worker's laws we have here, ie, having to pay our benefit rate for OT, having to pay for NJA, etc). I'm addressing any MTs who have RECENTLY gotten hired by an MTSO AND live in CA. Not ones who live in CA (like me) who have had their jobs for over 3 years or so........ ...

I, too, live in California. I'm a level-3 MT, getting mostly ESLs and other difficult dictators. I've brought my QA percentage down from 22 to 20% but it's impossible for me to go any lower with what I'm being routed. It looks like our job description has changed dramatically. Because of these new changes imposed by corporate, I'll now be getting paid 3 cents less through no fault of my own, but a different job description, not what I was hired to ...

My account went to Epic, not the first time I've lost an account to Epic, so I should be used to this by now. All these little partial dictations of a couple lines or less makes it extremely hard to get a decent line count/make money (!). That, in addition to no punctuation and apparently the speech rec engine has to start "learning" the dictators all over again. It's just horrible.
