Keystrokes - anyone found any improvements? - Wondering

Posted: Mar 15, 2011

Some time ago the owner gave all employees an opportunity to vent.    I am just curious if anyone found any improvements?  I personally received a very kind reply.   However, my situation has worsened.

Not the only pay cut? I've been there 7 years and only paycut was this one. nm - Confused

I'm not happy about a pay cut but it was not very much and was better than losing my job.

My suggestion to the OP is to contact your lead or coordinator or go to the owner. She did help me with something that I had an issue with, which was not enough work, and helped me get a different account. I'm not sure if she does this all the time as I am sure she is busy with other things, but I have found her to be very responsive as recently as 2 weeks ago.

You must have started AFTER the pay cut.

I have been there for about 5 years and this is the first pay cut I have ever had. Obviously, no one wants a pay cut, but it was very small and I am so thankful to still have a job. I have more than enough work on my account, so I am very happy. I also agree that the owner has been very quick to respond to emails and has been extremely helpful.

She wants everyone to make enough money and be happy, because she is busy with other aspects of the business, she may not be aware of the lack of work on some accounts. If she doesn't know it is broken, she can't fix it.

But isn't it someone's job to be aware of the work or lack thereof on the accounts?

Wondering - right there with you

i received a reply and yes, my situation has worsened also. nice to know i am not the only one.

I moved to a new account and found out I was making .20/report less, and now with the pay cut I am making .25/report less. That is a substantial pay cut on top of not having enough work. Had I known this in the beginning, I would not have moved to the new account. This is my only account and have asked for additional work, still waiting.

I must work one full day to make up for pay cut. sm - another KS

[ In Reply To ..]
Penny wise the paycut does not seem like much but over a two-week period it actually is. Based on my average production per pay period, I am losing about $200 a month. So per pay period, I have to work an extra day to make up for it. Bad enough that I work a lot more than eight hours a day as it is. And then the PTO cut to 10 bucks an hour, too? So I'm penalized for taking time off? After deductions, etc, that 40-hour PTO pay will be pennies.

Over the course of a year, my income drops by $5200 because of "small" pay cut.

Oopsie--2400 not 5200 a year. nm - another KS

The only way the cut was $200/mo is if you were making $5000/mo. - MathWhiz
[ In Reply To ..]
If you're making $5000/month, I would love to be on that account. Can you share which account?
We're talking a little over 2400 lines a month.sm - 5000 a month
[ In Reply To ..]
I don't know how you̢۪re coming up with 5000 a month. I wish. :D At 8.25 cents a line, 1213 lines is about 100 bucks. That's a day of work for me--actually it's more like 9 or more hours for the account I'm on unfortunately--which is what I lost per pay check. I'm going by MY average production per pay period and that varies based on each person's production. The higher your line count per paycheck the more the paycut will hurt and I am not a high producer.
Math is math. The cuts were 4 percent. You say you lost $200 per month. sm - MathWhiz
[ In Reply To ..]
If you currently make $5000 per month, 4% is $200.

If you are full time, you are required to do 24000 lines per month. 24,000 lines per month at 0.0825 per line is $1980.

24,000 x 0.0825 = $1980.

They cut pay by 4%.

$1980 x 4% = $79.20

$79.20 divided by 2 periods = $39.60.

So, if you do the math, the cut was only $39.60 per pay period, not $100 per pay period. It makes a difference of approximately $30 per pay period take home.

To make that $39.60, you would have to do an additional 480 lines per pay period, or 48 lines per day.

I figured this out the day the cuts were made, and just re-calculated to make sure.

It's not as bad as you think if you do the math.

It is still better than some cuts; my husband was cut 20% at his job. sm - NHMT2

[ In Reply To ..]
I have heard even worse from friends. I know that there were transcription companies that cut pay by 15% and 20% over the last few years, and a few of them did it more than once.

My son is a computer programmer. Ten years ago, he was making $180,000 a year. Now he makes $75,000 a year, and he's lucky to have a job. He has a master's degree!

I'm glad to get PTO. The other company I work for eliminated it completely.

Venting - KS too

[ In Reply To ..]
I would not have minded a bit at a 5% paycut, but not .25/report. It makes a substantial difference on the paycheck.

If I were you, I would contact the owner at the email she gave us all. sm - KSMT

[ In Reply To ..]
I would bet that she does not know that. I emailed her and she got back to me pretty quick and fixed the issue I had. It wasn't pay-related, but it was still important to me, and she took care of it. It's worth a shot if nothing else. They have a lot going on and probably did not notice; better to tell them and have them say no than to wonder. My two cents, for what it's worth.

Curious About Improvements At MQ/MM Or
Jan 04, 2013

Came over on Noah's Ark with Transcriptions Ltd, which morphed to Medquist, which morphed to MModal.  (Left in 2008 when everyone typed from one giant pool to go to Webx, which was great FOR A WHILE, until was gobbled up by NTS.) Question is this: Has MModal worked out their kinks with bringing all the acquisitions under one umbrella? Are all accounts on one standard platform, with standard acct specs across the board? (That was their promise, anyway.) In same boat now with present c ...

I found the below on the Company Board, and wondered if this could be true? ... Because you've already put in your 40 hours. It is illegal to change your timesheets so they don't have to pay overtime. If they can't give you sufficient work and keep hiring people who take your work away from you, find a company that will give you enough work. Save the emails and send them to the department of labor. ...

I just found out that even though I am doing the minimal required lines (120) I am not earning minimum wage and so even if I increase my lines I won't make any more money....Until I am typing over 160 lines.   I am so angry.   Now they are pressuring me to get higher lines so I can get out of them paying minimum wage.  Which is insulting in itself.  I am going to try to do it and then be a benefited employee.  But I am just angry that 120 lines doesn' ...

Something That I Found Very Interesting
Nov 21, 2009

Just for the heck of it, I went to the resume section of this board, and noticed there were quite a few MTs with "entry-level or less than 5 year's experience" wanting to be compensated 10-15 cpl  -- I really seriously doubt that is going to happen, especially for a "newer" MT.  I would suggest that if you are really serious about finding a job in MT, then revise your expected compensation rate to something a bit more realistic. ...

In my quest to improve SOMETHING, I stumbled across "job burnout."  I think it is my problem and wanted to share. "A strong signal that the burnout victim is sliding into an existential crisis of meaninglessness is evident when the person's statements about work are cloaked with a "so what?" or "why bother?" attitude. This is particularly striking among burnout victims who were once very enthusiastic and dedicated." There is some very good information and might be helpful.  At ...
