The same as for an MT with 20 years experience - 3 cpl to 9 cpl. It's a matter of finding the needle in the haystack.

Thanks for the replies back. I was offered 5 cent per 65 character line so I guess that is about average.

that is not average and the lowest I've ever heard. They are taking advantage of you being a newbie.

Minimum wage in my state is $9.+ an hour. As a newbie let's say you do 150 lines per hour (which is supposedly the average I read somewhere). Honey that is only $7.50 an hour. If they guarantee you an hourly rate while training that might make it worth your time. You didn't say if it was an employee or an IC position. If it's IC run, you are worth far more than that!

Anyone know if 5 cents per gross line is good or not? Better than 10 cents a 65 character line?? A company is offering this to me & says that at least 1/2 of every report is templated but you still get paid for it. I make 10 cents a 65 character line with the company I work for at this time. When a company states a line rate for a "65 printable character line" does that mean they do not pay for spaces? I saw an ad saying they pay the highest in the business, which was about 8.5 cents for 65 printable character line. That to me says without spaces, as it is not a printable character, so that would be a horrible rate surely not one of the best in the business. Wonder why there is no respect for our thumbs !!!! ...

Just wondering, what is an Average line count per hour for an MT? I worked in a pathology office for almost 5 years, but we never kept count of lines per hour. When we pulled an audit once, we were only typing about 700-800 a day between myself and the lady I worked with. Is this correct? I type 70,000 characters a day. I am paid by the 65 character line so I would divide 70,000 by 65 to get 1076, then multiple that by pay per line, say $.10 and get $107.
