I've been offered an MT position with 55 characters per line, 80% MT, only 20% VR, but 0.08 cents down from 0.086 - opinions anybody ASAP? MUCH Appreciated!!

forgive me but what does VBC stand for? have hard time with military son's acronyms! lol. I don't know if with spaces - good point. So if 55 without spaces, not good. Headers/footers no count there, as are with most. Co. I'm with now is 85-90% VR and we're getting cut again! So if this other co. is only 20% VR, but I'd have to take 1/2 pay cut ---- right now we're 1 step from sidewalk, spouse job searching x3 yrs, so I want to make the intelligent move, nervous.. It's virtual black character, or something like that :-) aka, without spaces. But, if it's a 55-character line with spaces, it might not make up for headers and footers in all documents, but you could probably make bank on the long documents. Even 55 without spaces is better than 65 without spaces, if....IF my brain is working correctly....it's been a LONG day and I just got done with my second job, so yeah......I may not be adding right.

If it is IC it would not be good as you have to take out for taxes, and everything. If it as employee, not too bad. Could make a different how much for VR transcription too, that is usually half what you get for straight transcription.

F/T employee, not IC. I was told by recruiter 20% VR and 80% straight transcribing. Hurts to take ANY pay cut, especially at our age and years exp.

Is this correct? I type 70,000 characters a day. I am paid by the 65 character line so I would divide 70,000 by 65 to get 1076, then multiple that by pay per line, say $.10 and get $107. If this is not correct then what is the formula? And what is the average number of lines per day? Thanks so much for the info. ...

In Word Perfect, to count characters, you click on properties, word count, and then do you just add up the top two things, Characters and Words, taking that total and dividing by 65? They are paying 65 character lines including spaces and I cannot remember how to do this. I have WPX4. Thank you kindly. ...

Anyone know if 5 cents per gross line is good or not? Better than 10 cents a 65 character line?? A company is offering this to me & says that at least 1/2 of every report is templated but you still get paid for it. I make 10 cents a 65 character line with the company I work for at this time. Please advise so I can make a decision to test or not with them. ...

When a company states a line rate for a "65 printable character line" does that mean they do not pay for spaces? I saw an ad saying they pay the highest in the business, which was about 8.5 cents for 65 printable character line. That to me says without spaces, as it is not a printable character, so that would be a horrible rate surely not one of the best in the business. Wonder why there is no respect for our thumbs !!!! ...

I was just hired on with a company to do strictly VR. I am only going to be working part time so about 4 hours a day. I am wondering from those who do VR what kind of line production should I shoot for in 4 hours of work? What is the normal VR line count for part time? I have read that most who are working full time or 8 hours a day are doing more than 1,000, even 2,000 a day. The company I will be working for wants a minimum of 10,000 lines in a payperiod which the lady said even with part time ...

I was wondering if anyone could tell me what is the easiest way to not count template lines when trying to invoice? I get a line count through Word, but I hear that Word counts blank spaces as well. I downloaded and use Flash Count, but it includes all 65 character lines, I beleive including the template headings. I hope this makes sense. Please help!! ...

I have been working for this company for about 18 month and so far so good. It was even bought out by a bigger company and everything stayed the same with no problems. They don't bother me, I do my work and everything is fine. About 6 months ago my line count started going way down and I really just chalked it up to not being able to concentrate as much because my baby started walking and basically making it impossible for me to work. I have been told that I need to increase my LPH. So last night I kept track of the lines of each document done by using MS Word. But later when I compared it to Nuance's line tracker (ichart) it only listed half the lines that MS Word listed. How can this be? I realized that Word my count blank lines, but how can there possibly be that much difference? I felt like I really kicked butt last night, but then to look at LPH with Nuance's ichart I felt cheated/ ...
