What are different ways to calculate for faxing reports? - SusanMT

Posted: Oct 12, 2011

My employer has agreed to pay to have me fax reports to several different facilities.  I have to print out every report I fax (if someone knows a different way, I'm listening)...  so, we're talking time, paper, toner, wear and tear on equipment.....   How are people out there calculating to do that?  My employer hasn't a clue and I'm treading unfamiliar waters?  Any help??

I haven't done this in years - JS

But I used to fax right from my computer many moons ago. Try checking the programs on your computer (hit the start button just type "fax" in the search programs and files bar). You probably have fax capabilities on your computer, and you should be good to go.

If you're going to do the print and fax through a machine, and you are an employee, I used to charge a flat hourly rate for my time and get reimbursed for my expenses. Just keep your receipts. If you're unsure of what hourly rate, ask for something comparable to the in-office employees who perform these duties.

Good luck

Well, it probably would have helped if I - SusanMT

included that I am an IC. Are there programs out there? I'm certainly willing to purchase a reasonable/safe program - anyone have any names? Really appreciate the responses I am receiving. Thank you!!

I just looked on my computer - JS

I'm on Windows 7. Go to the bottom corner where the Windows logo in the circle is (start function). Click it, and a menu will come up. At the bottom of the menu, there is a bar that says "search programs and files." Type "fax" in that bar and search. Turns out, there's a fax program in mine that came with the computer (Windows Fax and Scan). I haven't tried to use it, but it's worth a shot looking on your computer and just following the directions. If not, search the net, and there might be a free download.

BTW... my other computer is XP, and it has a fax function too. Follow the same steps to search, but there isn't a bar when you open up the start menu. You have to hit the "search" option then type in fax.
fax option since forever, just never had to use it. - nothing new really but good to know. NM

If you're going to be sending any faxes of patient records, dont' forget the HIPAA cover sheet. I don't have time right now to search, but you should be able to find one on the internet and copy and save it as your standard cover sheet.

I'm sure there MUST be SOMETHING there somewhere. I have been looking at services, but so far I am not impressed. I will keep pursuing this course and whatever else I can dig up. I fax about 200+ pages a month, so I really need to find a workable, safe, and efficient way to do this. Thank you again and again..
Susan - ever think of just charging per page? - just a thought

What about E-faxing? I don't know much about it but I do know several people have told me that it is a fax sent to their email (where they would turn around and print it off, etc) and you be (I am assuming here) scanning and emailing? LIke I said, not sure how this works but I have heard of it, just don't know the in's and out's. :)

I used to use efax - jml

I used to use efax a few years ago and I believe it was $9.99 a month. A friend of mine used to fax from her own fax machine and she charged by the page. I believe she charged .02 or .03 a page. Hope this helps.

Charging For Faxing
Apr 09, 2013

I recently acquired a very small account and the doctor requires me to pick up tapes twice a week, print, deliver the transcripts to his ofice and fax each of the transcribed letters to multiple offices using my home fax machine.  Average letters to be faxed each week is about 30.  I asked for a faxing fee and he said 'No" because the previous MT was not charging for faxing.  What should I do?  I did the math and it seemed I will just be breakeven and not make money cons ...

Do They Calculate Your LPH Before Dividing Your Speech Or No? Sm
Dec 04, 2014

Just wondering- Do they take your lines and half the speech lines and THEN divide that by your hours and get your LPH OR do they take your total speech and typed lines first and get your LPH , then divide the speech lines in half? That makes a difference. Does anyone know????? I still cannot see a huge impact. I have calculated 2 past weeks of pay using the new way and also an older scorecard. One was the same, one was 10$ less for that week and one was about 15$ more for the week. BUT I also a ...

Does It Work Both Ways?
Mar 28, 2014

Just wondering if those of you who oppose offshoring would work for a foreign company?  I know of some MTs who work for Australian company Ozescribe - they have MTs in Australia, USA, Canada and Israel plus probably a few other countries.  Isn't that the same as Indians transcribing for US companies? If not, what makes it different?  I'm trying to understand why it's okay for US workers to work for other countries but not the other way around?  Or would it be ...
