Vent: Not caring for patients - Perhaps rant is a better word

Dictators (MDs, PAs, RNPs, etc.) who dictate so fast and so sloppily cannot possibly care about the welfare of their patients. If they did, they would want a clear and accurate record with no room for misunderstanding or errors.
Doing the paperwork is part of the job. If you don't want to do it with reasonable clarity, then perhaps you just shouldn't be practicing at all.
If I ever meet any of these in person I will tell them flat out how horrible they are and what a terrible risk they present to their patients...much less to those of us who have to deal with their mess.
Thanks for letting me gripe.

[ In Reply To ..]It doesn't mean they don't care about their patient's. They have the worst schedule of any other medical professional. They spend 8-10 hours at an office. They may have 10 or more patient's in the hospital that they also have to see outside of office hours, not to mention all of the calls for patient's in the ER, CCU, etc. That's just for a GP. Surgeons/specialty even worse for on call. I some times have over an hour of dictation for a day's worth of patient's. Of course they are going to go a little fast. I have also found that some types of specialties attract high-strung people. They are going to talk fast naturally.
Personally, I like the fast talkers. For some reason, I type faster. My favorite doctor is one that most don't like, and I can average sometimes over 300 lph on him.

Too broke to see a doctor in several years I finally saw one today and got to witness the "benefits" of EMR. The new patient documents were scanned into the doctor's laptop. The software was not able to translate handwriting, so all that was a waste. Basically the doctor had to go over every question and missed many that did not scan. I've been doing this a long time, and I know how oblivious doctors are to anything approaching being polite when they dictate. We have a supervisor.. just one. She can also type at home if she chooses to once she gets home from the office. Of course she does because she makes a lot more money. I probably would too. I've switched jobs about 4 times this year, searching for the "perfect fit" - even went down to 7 cpl as an IC which everyone on these boards has said NEVER to do, just so I could have no weekends and flexibility during the day. This dictator is driving me nuts!!! Even the sound of every deep, gravelly, congested-sounding breath the man takes makes my head and ears hurt. I absolutely hate the account I type for....hate it. Is it really THAT difficult to want most of the physicians dictate correctly? I said 'most' too because I do know that to expect all of them to dictate correctly is ridiculous. I can't even average 10 reports an hour on this account because of the errors. Just got a new account a couple of weeks ago and was super excited because its brand new, straight transcription until VR picks it up.......good deal? Not so much. Why oh why can't these companies have just a speck of honesty when they hire us? I was recently hired by a company and was hired for "fulltime" and I get at the most 600 lines daily. I actually love the job and would probably work it part-time, if asked, but why deceive me into thinking they had full-time lines available? It's such a nice holiday gift they're giving us. We all know that anytime you throw a new account or dictator in the mix it drops our LPH. Because of this it will also be dropping our PTO, which is based on our LPH/cpl.
