I just spent the last few hours pretty much completely re-typing garbage VR! I am so sick of this! Especially after we just got our rate cut significantly. Why can't they provide a good VR platform??!! I just worked my butt off for nothing!

If you ever change to another system you will not believe it. It has NOTHING to do with how a person speaks, but rather the KIND of VR you are using. I have people I CANNOT hear and yet there it is, down in black and white, VR hears it and frankly my dear, thank goodness.

I, too, have been astounded at the words that VR will pick up when I cannot understand the doctor's words. I've been at VR for four years and am amazed every day.

You are both probably right. I have heard Escription is the best, but that is not what I use. I have something called M-Modal

Until and unless you get another job, then you will see what we are talking about. There are no dictators at my hospital who are not allowed to use and like the above, totally amazed that VR picks up like it does. I would never drive myself to the crazy house by staying with a place where the VR is so bad you have to retype a line, a paragraph, etc., etc. I just think some systems far outdistance the others.

Using the M-Modal system with Extext stinks. I agree with above posts about it depending on what system you use but IMO VR just stinks. However, are we supposed to make any money using this. The management people like to tell us we will make more but I disagree. Give me back my factors for bad dictators.

I'm confused about the "changes" that are supposed to be happening. I work on the ChartMatrix side and have been using MModal for a year. Are we supposed to get a better version, also? Or is this about Enterprise getting the version we have been using for a year. I wish they would just switch over to Escription.

I actually really don't mind VR, just wish we had a really good platform to justify the low pay.

I used M-modal briefly and did not like it (not at WebMedx), also a similar program at Spheris - I found them both difficult to use with VR because you have to fuss around with the headings as well as fix the VR. Enterprise's VR was okay and pay was pretty good ... but left WebMedx because of the no work situation. Escription is much better.

I feel like I fight with the headings all day, whereas if I could just use my own normals without having to format the headings, everything would be good to go. I guess some people like them, so they are staying.

Because I have those out the ying-yang. I use them all the time. I guess as long as my company uses Exscription I'll be okay. If I'm not one of the unlucky ones who get cut from the team lol.

We use a proprietary 3M product, Chartscript.NET. Our ED docs have speech mikes that they use.

Our PCP docs have digital hand helds. Each one is keyed for one particular doc. If another doc in the practice picks up the wrong handheld, the resulting VR result looks like somebody threw up a dictionary on the screen. It is just a screen full of words. One nice option that our VR has is an option to "discard results." When you choose that option, the text on the screen goes away but the voice is still there. THen you can type just like you would if it were straight transcribing.

A bad thing about it is that if a doc says something about lab tests in the HPI part of the dictation, the words he speaks ends up in the lab test part of our template. It has been taught to recognize lab tests as a heading in the body of a report. Sometimes the VR cursor hops all over the place. That is another good reason to discard results.

VR bites some days, but then like another poster stated, if it weren't for VR, there would be a lot more blanks. VR is a love/hate kind of thing.

We should not be told we're jeopardizing patient care - it's the ESL doctors. I've never had an ESL doctor and I'd refuse to be treated by one who can't speak clearly or speak a complete sentence. I've been doing this a long time, and I know how oblivious doctors are to anything approaching being polite when they dictate. I've heard them in the bathroom, I've heard them yelling at their kids, talking on the phone, listening to football games on TV while dictating, etc. We all have. This dictator is driving me nuts!!! Even the sound of every deep, gravelly, congested-sounding breath the man takes makes my head and ears hurt. I absolutely hate the account I type for....hate it. Is it really THAT difficult to want most of the physicians dictate correctly? I said 'most' too because I do know that to expect all of them to dictate correctly is ridiculous. I can't even average 10 reports an hour on this account because of the errors. It's such a nice holiday gift they're giving us. We all know that anytime you throw a new account or dictator in the mix it drops our LPH. Because of this it will also be dropping our PTO, which is based on our LPH/cpl. I just had a report that could have been dictated and wrapped up in 10 seconds if he'd just dictated it straight through. Instead, each word was separated by about 10-20 seconds of nothing, with only the sound of him eating chips until he said another single word, then smacked and crunched again for another 10-20 seconds. Pulling standards into ASR reports!!!!! This does not work!
