Caring MTSO - TiredMT

Posted: Apr 15, 2010

At the risk of sounding like a complete idiot, I'm curious to know if there are any MTSOs out there who you guys feel really and truly care about their MTs and not just the bottom line? I understand that business is business but it seems to me that if you have happy MTs then you have productive MTs, willing to accommodate and go above and beyond for the company, which in turn makes the retention rate of quality MTs high because they are happy.  They get to know the quirks of the doctors and what-have you, and everything is dandy.  I've only been dealing with them for the last few years of my 20-year career but I'm not feeling the love.....

Wow - TiredMT

One hour into this post and nobody has been able to sing the praises of any MTSO. That shows the sad state of this profession.

I think it actually speaks more to the state of this board. - Happy MTer

I love my MTSO, but I won't post their name on here. As one poster puts it "others' mileage may vary" and what is a great experience for me and others may not be for someone else.

I also won't subject myself or my company to the pervasive negativity that is on this board. I know there are many people who are not in good working situations right now. There are many of us who are in great situations and are making good money, but we get HAMMERED if we say something positive to that effect.

Ditto - me

[ In Reply To ..]
I am also happy, but naturally we get labeled a suit if we say anything positive. Besides, I have only been with this company for a short while, so my feelings about them may change over time, but for now, I think compared to the horror stories I have heard about other companies I found a great 'home.'

Point taken - TiredMT

[ In Reply To ..]
I really didn't expect anyone to post the actual names of the companies. I was just wondering if there were any companies that MTs loved. A simple yes or no would have been sufficient. I work for 2 companies, one I'm happy with and one, not so much but I didn't post their name either. I am glad to see that there are happy MTs out there.
Yes there is a company that I love - Old MTSO
[ In Reply To ..]
I am treated well and with respect at my company. There is generally plenty of work. No, I will not post their name because there is too much bashing of companies on this board. Just know that there ARE good ones out there that appreciate and value experienced MTs. Good luck to all.
I understand the bashing part of this, but it - is frustrating SM
[ In Reply To ..]
when someone tells me they really like their company, are paid fairly, etc., especially when I read on here that MTs apply, apply, apply with no response. It seems to me that it would be helpful to know which companies are worth taking a look at. I wish there was a way to find this out without all this "angst" about it.

No, I don't think so - cc

[ In Reply To ..]
I truly am glad and I believe 99% of the people here are glad, that the other 1% of MTs posting/reading are happy. The problem is that the other 99% have been utterly screwed and don't want to have to, quite frankly, blow smoke up anyone's a** when it would be a lie. It's insulting for people to keep suggesting that we should say water is not wet, the sky is not up, etc., when it so obviously and clearly is.

Also, most--yes, not all--of us will point out at some point that this or that is good about the company that screwed us. Most of us are not 100% negative all the time. But we do have the right to say that when it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, etc., most likely it is a duck. If you want to hear nothing but lies, turn on Fox News. Sorry.

You posted at 9:30 at night and not all of us spend 24 hours on here.

I'm VERY happy with my MTSO. We were recently given bonuses for doing some extra because we have so much work. On top of that, I also received another bonus because I'd done a significant amount of work.

When I have a problem, I know I can talk to my MTSO and she listens and she takes action if necessary.

She pays me well.

She's what I call "a good egg."

The continual demonizing of MTSOs on here is disgusting IMO.

We aren't the only ones who are struggling to make ends meet, to keep MTs working and paid. Not every MTSO is the same as MQ, Transcend, etc. There are a lot of mid to small service owners who keep the welfare of their MTs present in their minds.

24 hours.... - TiredMT

[ In Reply To ..]
My posting at 9:30 at night is really irrelevant as this is a 24 hour board and people log on at all hours. On the west coast, it was only 6:30 p.m. I was not stipulating that anyone spends 24 hours a day on here. By the time I posted my "wow" statement I believe the post had gotten 20 or 30 views and I just found it odd that none of those people had a yes or no in reference to a caring company, that's it. I never once demonized any company, I merely asked a question as that is what the post was for. My apologies to any one, including you, if you thought that was my intent. I was only looking for silver lining in what has become such a gray cloud for so many MTs.

There was a lot of truth in what you said. Though the better paid/employed MTs on this board sometimes take legitimate gripes personally, they should not. Most of us want the best for all MTs. Keep expressing your opinions. The only pain some people feel is their own and when they are feeling no pain, they are oblivious to injustices others suffer and could give less than a hiccup about them. Be encouraged.

Happy With Your MTSO - Silly Rabbit

Your happiness with your employer makes me very hopeful that one day I will find a company that I can speak in defense of. Very encouraging.

company, the owner is always looking out for his MTs, rarely run out of work and have great TLs on all accounts. For the first time EVER (have been an MT for over 20 years) I received something very nice for MT week after I started to work for him and always receive something for Christmas, as well as a party if you are in the same state, which I am. I am always paid on time, do not know about the benefits because I am lucky enough not to need them but I feel that this company goes out of their way to do whatever they can for their MTs and making the job a bit easier. My accounts are fairly easy, very VERY few ESLs. The only draw back is that the pay, like everywhere else, could be better. Otherwise I am completely satisfied with my company and know that I would be crazy to try any place else even if there was lots more money offered.

I will not respond to any emails because we are not hiring at the moment, not being ugly, just the truth.

[ In Reply To ..]
I think that the MTSO's that frequently hire via the internet are probably not the best people to work for. I personally just suffered abuse verbally and emotionally from one MTSO and her husband who runs a company (or try to). I have had to read their emails that make no sense, are insulting, abrasive, abusive and downright unprofessional. They treat their MTs like dogs, pay once a month, and disorganized and then blame you for their disorganization. Their communication skills lack to high-heaven, and their people skills don't exist. They both play crazy-making games. I really don't see how they stay in business except that most of us MTs are so desparate right now we take more than we should just to hold a job. As one poster said earlier, we love our profession and it is hard to let go something you have been doing 20 years.

I'm sorry to hear you've been through so much. Those owners sound like a terror.

I'm not really feeling love for my MTSO. It's a small company but the owners are AWOL. Instead they have an office manager, someone who has never done MT, take care of everything. She is rude, stupid, inept, incompetent, and harasses people. She takes literally everything you say and tries to find something wrong with it, often calling you to yell at you for things you never did. She has nothing but contempt for the ICs; she told me flat out that "MTs are nothing" and that "doctors shouldn't have to deal with people like you."

I love the work, love the job, but that office manager is just the worst kind of person. The MT field is full of people like her.

Desperate MTs - pedalpusher

[ In Reply To ..]
I don't want to step on toes, but to say that MTs are desperate enough to stay w/a job that is abusive is akin to saying you're so desperate to have a man around that you'd stay w/someone who is abusive. Life is WAY too short for that.

A lot of variables go into "feeling the love." Even though I've got a great gig right now pay- and hours-wise, with changes in our platform and management stating that their MTs will eventually be phased out with the exception of some back-end QA positions I don't have that "gung-ho" mindset anymore. I don't work for an MTSO right now, but it seems most places that employ MTs are all in the same boat - cut costs where it's least obvious, reap a big bonus check at the expense of quality and morale. Now I'm REALLY depressed! Captain Bringdown over and out!

I'm an IC for an MTSO who has advertised on this board before but isn't really discussed much if at all. I've always been paid on time, what I believe is a fair wage. I appreciate that the owner is friendly and does seem to truly appreciate her MTs. When work is low she tries to spread it around. When it's busier than normal, she lets us know and asks who would like extra work. In almost two years, I haven't had one problem with this MTSO and I hope I'm there a long time.

Happy with my MTSO - adliesmom

I love the company I have been working for, but due to low volume work I recently had to get a job with another company. I have not quit with her because I am still hoping I can do both for a while. It is a small company and the owner has always been wonderful to work with. I have always been paid on time and my wage is fair. I just hate to quit because she has been good to me. As long as I can do both jobs I will. Good luck to you all!

Vent: Not Caring For Patients
Nov 20, 2010

Dictators (MDs, PAs, RNPs, etc.) who dictate so fast and so sloppily cannot possibly care about the welfare of their patients.  If they did, they would want a clear and accurate record with no room for misunderstanding or errors. Doing the paperwork is part of the job.  If you don't want to do it with reasonable clarity, then perhaps you just shouldn't be practicing at all. If I ever meet any of these in person I will tell them flat out how horrible they are and what a terr ...

My New MTSO

Hi, I hope this is the right forum to post this on. I have a few questions pertaining to my new MTSO business. Any input or advice would be helpful. First of all, I need help with pricing. I charge my clients .12 per 65 character line. I believe that is the going rate for my area. I am wondering what to pay my transcriptionists and editors. I originally thought to pay my transcriptionists .08 per 65 character line and my editors .04 per 65 character line but then I wouldn't be making any pr ...

MTSO Rates
Nov 23, 2009

Do you think the MTSOs cut their rates to their clients who are now using VR just as they have cut their MTs rates?  Seems that some MTSOs are scrambling for some reason to cut everyone's pay down (even their MT pay, not just ME pay).  I wonder if they are in over their heads with this new venture into VR and losing their arses and realizing it isn't quite the godsend everyone is making it out to be.  One can hope, and would serve them right! Nonpayment By An MTSO

How does one go about collecting money from a small MTSO who still owes me $1,049 for transcription I had done for them?  I quit working for them in May 2009 when I hadn't received payment.  I sent them several e-mails and they did pay me some of the money owed me.  Originally they owed me $2,049; paid me with one check for $500, then two more checks for $200 each, which were sent to me every few months in between.  They kept telling me they would pay me off the com ...

MT Week And MTSO's
May 19, 2010

The little "trinkets" some of you have received is extremely comical and a so-called slap in the face to some, but some may view it as an actual good gesture, although I do not agree. When I worked at neurology they used to always acknowledge MT week with flowers or a $25 gift card to our local mall, but when they got a new office manager he combined Secretary's Week and MT Week into one. My coworker and I got acknowledged one year on Secretary's Week - now that is a slap in the face ...

MT Versus MTSO
May 09, 2011

I have not been on this board in a few years but I can see a definite turn against medical transcriptionists.  The MTSO's have created a vulture type of attitude that has been passed down among many new transcriptionists in the business. I see the MTs being blamed for whining, complaining and for trying to voice their concerns about being treated badly by ROMs or team leaders or management in general. One statement is truly correct - MTSOs are in it for the money. That being said, let& ...
