I heard a friend talk about "going Galt," so I checked it out on Google. It basically means I'm not giving away my intellect anymore for a "higher paying" job, which also means more in taxes.
So, here's how I'm "going Galt." I'm quitting the MT biz and going to work in the restaurant industry.
I feel like I'm being pimped out by the MTSO. About 3 years ago I was doing 11 cents on the GROSS line count and making just under 50k a year. Now I'm at about 8 cents for 65 characters plus spaces and doing 13k a year. Heck, my friend working at McDonalds made 1k more than me last year. What a rip!
Starting with a new MTSO means a cut in production, so why even bother trying to find a better-paying MT job? I figured it up that I made 3-5 dollars an hour for the first few weeks with a new company, learning the formats, procedures, etc. Even worse if the doctor dictating is a "name dropper" causing me to look up credentials all the time.
My restaurant job is starting me at 9 an hour and paying me to train. Goodbye MT world, I'm going Galt. I will not give away my intellect anymore for these cheap rates/wages. No more being pimped out by the MTSO...
