To continue my vent about QA, why do they feel they have to - sm

treat us rudely? I get rudeness all the time from my QA. I am about to tell them about it. Look, I am trying. I am not making mistakes to mess up your day!!!
My Perspective - I Used to Do QA

It's very difficult to communicate via notes. You'll notice that in e-mail, too.
I no longer do QA because I got bashed for no good reason.
I personally would just get right to the point and the other person just has to take the correction and handle it. I was not mean. I had no mean intent in my brain. I had a quota too, and didn't have time for "fluff." Now, if someone is calling you an idiot or something, that's different.
Sometimes I would add a comment to get the MT to just think. Kind of like, "why did you type castration over and over, when the word should have been catheterization?" I was trying to get this MT to look words up she wasn't familiar with, I was not cutting her down for not knowing definitions. Though, of course, this one should have been obvious.
Yes, we do lose patience. The MT may be more concerned about a comma I inserted, instead of that critical error, such as the one stated above. That drove me nuts. You were more worried about a comma than an incorrect procedure/lab value, etc?
We QA types are just trying to be helpful, but unfortunately, we don't have time like it's a first-grade classroom to call you sweetie and word things just perfectly.
It's an education is all.
I will never, ever do QA again. We get in more trouble than the MTs ever do, beacause we're "mean."
Way up in corporate they hold us to a higher level of perfection, and everything is "our fault" if we didn't catch something the MT did. We can't catch everything unless we're doing a full QA on you, so corporate logic is just nuts.
Our supervisors come down on us because we didn't sugar-coat a crtical error. They come down on us because because our production was low that day, because maybe we spent time trying to word our correction so the MT doesn't get all twisted out of shape.
I am done with QA. It's a thankless job that we no longer get paid well for.

What MTs get impatient about is having to deal with petty nitpicking over trivialities and sometimes personal preferences deemed ''feedback'', often condescending, by a myriad of people--some of whom in addition to being rude are unqualified---all for a whopping 4 cpl.
Thanks for the perspective. Recently a QA wrote back to - thank (!) me for a nice response SMse

to a note pointing out a mistake I'd made. That was a surprise and a little eye opener, like your message, about what it can be like on the QA side.
I also totally believe simple statements on paper can be taken as "mean" when they're not meant to be at all. How DO you manage to duplicate a conciliatory head tilt and smile in a quick e-mail?
I really wanted to get out of the MT business, but I am having NO luck finding a job in another field, and now my marriage is breaking up and I have no financial security. Is there ANY company out there worth working for anymore as an MT? ...
to strive for the 99%. It did not matter I had 98.8. and there have been times I was over 99% They are out of their freakin minds. I wonder who in this world is perfect at their job. ...
I'm told the low volumes are due to the time of the year. I just don't remember this happening in past years. My time sheet has 10-15 entries by the time of the day - this is nuts. Can't take no pay, can't use up all my PTO in a week. Seriously, what are we supposed to do? ...
I've been an MT for over 20 years. Have had my own clients in Rhematology for the past 12 years, been working at home for 15 years. Clients have switched to point-and-click and VR except for one who is Lebanese and hates the point-and-click and can't do VR. So, I started working for a great company doing ENT, but pay is 8 cents/line, quite the cut, but good dictators. They might soon be going to VR. I live in a small town and really don't want to work ...
alienate the workers and the workers keep leaving. The company could save a whole lot of $$ by eliminating the scheduler position as well as the crazy auditors! Who thinks up this stuff. ...
or go get another job out of MT completely (not convinced any other company is much better).....I was thinking, well, what else am I qualified for? I guess I could waitress (never done before though), but Ihop has an ad for a waitress, waitress exp. not nec. I thought, argh, what can they possibly make, prob just minimum wage and lots of work and would I even be up to it? Come to find out that waitresses at Ihop around here (California) make minimum wage (8/hr) plus tips. ...
to work in your regular platform such as DQS or do you have to download an entirely new system to work in a hospital EMR. My hospital is on DQS and going to EMR or Epic so I am not sure if that means all my short cuts etc are gone or we continue somehow to use both systems. I doubt you can use short cuts in EMR but again I have no idea and I dont think you can move your short cuts out of DQS to another system and again I dont know. Seems like I dont know much this morning at al ...
I've heard you shouldn't use your computer or phone during a thunder storm. What do you do? Stop working until it's over, or continue working and ignore the thunder and lightning? ...
Hello fellow MT's! I am almost finished with my MT course, and I would like some counsel from everyone on their experiences with continuing education after graduation. First I am going to go for my RMT as recommended by the ADHI. What tools and resources did you use that helped? Which ones do you recommend? Has anyone gotten a degree to enhance their knowledge, and if so, what degree? I have recently been discharged after 8 yrs in the Army and I have been studying in my ...
pleas for help on an account when she has not paid her employees. I cannot speak for everyone, but as for me, no pay equals no work. I realize it is not the client's fault as I am sure they paid their bill, so I do feel bad on that side, but on the other hand, only a fool keeps on working while someone dangles that carrot with the possibility they might be paid sometime. Ugh. ...
Following an in-depth investigative report of how corporate profits soar at the mercy of the increasingly invisible labor force in this business, we could publish a cartoon depicting a wide-mouth funnel at the top with all the newly "acquired" MTs falling in, with the bottom of the funnel (the other opening) pouring out the newly unemployed. Churning around inside the murky vortex are the chronically underpaid sweatshop slave-wage fools.
Wonder if the creepy people responsible for this me ...

I have an ARNP doing a radiation follow up. She dictates "33 fractions of 5040 GRAY" and then goes on to say "that's small c, capital G, small y." She has done this a number of times over a number of reports.
I'm just shaking my head.

I just spent the last few hours pretty much completely re-typing garbage VR! I am so sick of this! Especially after we just got our rate cut significantly. Why can't they provide a good VR platform??!! I just worked my butt off for nothing! ...
Someone ought to take these ESL doctors and torture them like they torture us with their unbelievably horrible English speaking skills! We should not be told we're jeopardizing patient care - it's the ESL doctors. I've never had an ESL doctor and I'd refuse to be treated by one who can't speak clearly or speak a complete sentence. Jerks! ...
I've been doing this a long time, and I know how oblivious doctors are to anything approaching being polite when they dictate. I've heard them in the bathroom, I've heard them yelling at their kids, talking on the phone, listening to football games on TV while dictating, etc. We all have. But there's this one foreign female doctor on the account I regularly transcribe who drives me UP the wall. She apparently thinks dictation time is time to eat. ...
I hate being on QA hold. I just started a new job and no matter where I've worked through the years, QA always seem to be the same! It's never consistent. I'm marked off for one thing by one QA and then not for the same thing by another! Am I supposed to do that or not? I'm trying to learn this account and being 2 different things on one subject is confusing to say the least! ...
Wow, if E-scription is such a wonderful ASR platform, I feel sorry for us all becuase I have had to change at least 1-2 words per line on E-scription today, WHENEVER I actually had work, that is. This whole thing is getting worse and worse all the time, and for such horrible cpl rates that I can't even stand this after 36 years. If the doctors and all the big muckity mucks had even the SLIGHTEST clue. Gladly change places for one report with them.
Thanks I needed t ...
Ugh, I am getting so frustrated with this ESL doc. He says these doctors' names and I cannot understand him and I don't even know if he's pronouncing them correctly. I search through all the doctors' names that start with the letter that it sounds like he saying to try to find one that might match how he is pronouncing it. It's taking so much time. If I find a name that comes close enough to what he is saying, I will use that. Other times I ...
Just need to vent and complain a little about the annoying way this ESL dictates...it's really getting on my nerves. He constantly says things like: Heart sounds "is" regular. Medications "is" reviewed. Lungs "is" clear. Always combining plurals with singulars. Then there's the: There is "a" pitting edema... And no, he's not saying "ah", it is clearly an "a." There is "a" mitral regurgitation... Finally, I can tell he's re ...
We have a supervisor.. just one. She can also type at home if she chooses to once she gets home from the office. Of course she does because she makes a lot more money. I probably would too. But, here's my peeve..... We can't cherry pick.. of course not. No sending jobs back that are from some of the worst dictators in the world. We just trod through and type and get those horrible lines per hour on those horrible docs . But she assigns all the best dictator ...
I am trying so hard at this new job. I've been there a month, and I've never seen such complicated visit choices, etc. It's just very difficult for me for some reason. I have pages and pages of good notes, but I'm always missing something. So far, no one has been ugly with me, but I'm feeling it's only a matter of time. I'm an experienced MT of over 12 years and am very good, but I'm just about to cry because of these header p ...
I've switched jobs about 4 times this year, searching for the "perfect fit" - even went down to 7 cpl as an IC which everyone on these boards has said NEVER to do, just so I could have no weekends and flexibility during the day. Just when I thought I found a great company, they changed their platform to Emdat/Inscribe. Oh, ah, so much fun - NOT!!! And so much for that 7 cpl. We'll be getting 2 cpl on the QT lines :( I am soooo unhappy. To make ...
This dictator is driving me nuts!!! Even the sound of every deep, gravelly, congested-sounding breath the man takes makes my head and ears hurt. Sounds like he's dictating with his mouth full of spit or some kind of gunk. Ewwwww gross! Plus he's ESL. Plus it's an account I've never done before. Plus it's sounds like he's dictating under water, and he keeps repeating what seems like every other phrase. I'm already irritable, grouchy ...
Dear Doctor:
Just to let you in on a little secret, I do not get paid to listen to you to sit and read through your chart, eat, or take phone calls. I'm a real person listening to you, so either dictate or hang up. Thanks so much. ...
I absolutely hate the account I type for....hate it. Is it really THAT difficult to want most of the physicians dictate correctly? I said 'most' too because I do know that to expect all of them to dictate correctly is ridiculous. I can't even average 10 reports an hour on this account because of the errors. They mumble, slur their words, clip their words, rustle every paper around them... and I'm taliking about 80% of them! This is a new account ...
