Need Advice-Continue MT or Quit - MT20

I've been an MT for over 20 years. Have had my own clients in Rhematology for the past 12 years, been working at home for 15 years. Clients have switched to point-and-click and VR except for one who is Lebanese and hates the point-and-click and can't do VR. So, I started working for a great company doing ENT, but pay is 8 cents/line, quite the cut, but good dictators. They might soon be going to VR. I live in a small town and really don't want to work as a cook or at a convenience store. How things in this field have changed!! Have applied for Acute Care MT positions, but they all want "recent experience". I haven't done that for probably 14-15 years. So, what do I do? I'm self supporting, so I've got to do something and soon. Any ideas appreciated. Sometimes a regular job sounds good, but wages won't be great.

MxSecure has clinic work, and if you run out on one account, they will send more work if wanted. I liked this company. You could work there while building up your own client base again. As most physicians have gone EMR here, I have cut out a niche in my company and specialize in either practices too small to go EMR or those who have gone EMR and realize they have better use of their time than doing their own transcription, which lots of them have figured out now. I appreciate your answer. I will check them out. In your opinion, how small is too small to go EMR and also how did you go about finding new business? Throughout the years, I've sent letters out, but have never been successful doing this.

Small practices - just me

Practices that have about 15-20 new patients per week. I usually transcribe the initial consults only or certain in-office procedures. Some clients I have I got through cold calling in person, others I got through my website (strangely enough my cheap website generated a lot of business while my nice expensive professionally done website did not, and word of mouth referrals from established clients. I have since changed phone numbers to a private one, yet they still find me. These clients are also more loyal. They are too small for a large company to want to both with but perfect for me.

As for MxSecure, I was very happy with them but at the time, I was still very injured from surgery and also working at another service that paid slightly higher, so my husband did not want me to switch to them only. I wish I had. They always had work for me, QA was very nice, and they paid on time. Good luck!

I agree. I've been with MxSecure for a year, and am happy with them (one can do a search for MxSecure and my initials for previous posts and details). I received six job offers and chose them for many reasons, including the fact they have paid holidays, sick days, PTO, etc. Everyone is very nice to deal with, my main account is straight typing, and I have a M-F schedule, no weekends (or holidays). Lots of positive feedback too - just received an email passed on from a facility about how happy they are with the quality of one of my accounts, a giftcard for MT week, and even a delicious birthday present! Another reason I chose them is they also develop software programs, including one for EMR/EHR that focuses on physician narrative and transcription as opposed to point-and-click.

If you can't make it doing clinic work at 8 cpl, then I'd say look for a new field. As long as we have people taking 3 cpl to edit and 5-6 cpl to transcribe, wages are not going to get any better.

to work in your regular platform such as DQS or do you have to download an entirely new system to work in a hospital EMR. My hospital is on DQS and going to EMR or Epic so I am not sure if that means all my short cuts etc are gone or we continue somehow to use both systems. I doubt you can use short cuts in EMR but again I have no idea and I dont think you can move your short cuts out of DQS to another system and again I dont know. I am so serious. Everyone needs to quit transcribing for a while. We need to get this industry back to where we could actually make a decent living.
