found an inhouse job and I am out of this online nightmare - MTmomof2
Posted: May 06, 2011
I was finally able to get hired by a local hospital that very rarely has openings. I will get to work from home once I am up to speed on their platform....doing VR....getting paid by the hour....benefits for the family of only $200/month....and PTO time. I couldn't be happier. I have been slugging it out with MTSOs for 10 years and am finally getting out of this rat race. It was music to my ears when I asked what the chances are of them ever turning their work over to a MTSO and they said they had tried that several years ago and would never do that again. I wish you all good luck and hope things in this profession turn around for all of us! God Bless!
I did that a couple of years ago, however, - sm - Susan

I hated it. The boss was HORRIBLE. After being an IC for so many years, I had trouble adjusting to working set hours and following all the rules (and there were SOOOOO many), going to useless meetings, all the complaining by the other MTs (and they had it pretty good).
Not saying nationals are the right thing - not by a long shot. I actually am working towards getting out of MT altogether. Just isn't for me anymore.
I hope you love your new job!
Although I hated all the things you mentioned, - see message

when I was an in-house MT, although I love working at home now, I'm so tired of being dirt-poor all the time, and worrying about money every waking minute, that I'm very actively looking for an in-house job again.
Once I finally find it, the next time I find myself sitting in one of those hated meetings, or listening to my co-worker in the cubicle next to me popping her bubble gum as she types, I will remind myself that those annoyances are only TEMPORARY, and of how great it will be to be able to heat the apartment again, or to be able to afford to buy everything on my grocery list.
Congratulations and best of luck! - jmt

I will be at my new inhouse job for a year come August and let me tell you, best move I ever made! However, I am not doing straight transcription anymore. I'm in a doctor's office and while I do transcribe, I also do other secretarial duties and I have the best 5 docs, I would do anything for them. Like you, our insurance for major medical, RX, vision and dental for family is $200/month, no weekends or holidays and 3 weeks vacation. It's like a whole new world. And a steady paycheck is a wonderful thing. I worked at home for 17 years and had the fortune of raising my kids while this industry was still very good, unfortunately those times are gone. I wish you well. I'm sure you will love your new job!
I envy you. I was called by a friend wanting to know - anonymous for now

if I wanted to work for the hospital again and I jumped on it. Talked to the HIM and she said she'd get back to me because it depended on the head honcho. I would also have to train because a lot had changed since I last worked there. Saw an ad in the newspaper a few weeks ago where they were looking for per diems.
Guess the years I did work there as IC didn't count....but I'm betting it's my age and they won't tell me that because it would be discrimination. I was so hoping to get back there as an employee, which I had wanted all the years I worked for them as an IC. :(
Good luck and hope it works out for ya.
Hope you got back to them yourself; if not, do it now. - NM

I worked in-house that outsourced in the past, who said they would never outsource again. Long story short, new CEO looking to cut expenses, decided in-house transcription was to expensive and outsourced again. But truely hope things work out for you. I truly enjoyed the days of in-house transcription and enjoyed the unnecessary meetings for a diversion
Congratulations! What a wonderful opportunity..nm - Pumpkins

I waited for two years for an opening to come up. The hospital is an hour's drive from where I live, but after six months I got to come home to work. I send up prayers every day that they never outsource. We are paid hourly plus a phenomenal incentive plan. I hope to never have to leave this job!
I did too 4 months ago at a rate of $22 an hour (SM) - Mya

I lost money going back inhouse, but I am so happy. There are 8 of us, and to have vacation pay, holiday pay, etc. again and decent insurance makes me so happy.
Thanks for the well wishes - mtmomof2

The pay is good, but it is the stability and benefits that is my main concern. All I have to achieve is 300 edited lines/hour at 98% accuracy and I can work from home. Right now we are paying $1300/month for family medical insurance and now it will be $200/month. That will be like getting an extra paycheck each month. :)

Low Wage For Inhouse Transcriptionist Jun 30, 2011Hello:
I interviewed today for a psychology practice that is offering $8.50/hour for a receptionist/transcriptionist position (for 3 psychologists). I thought, well, perhaps there is not much transcription involved, but was told that would be the majority of the workday. I feel this would be interesting work, I need the benefits provided, and all the doctors are English as first language speakers (a bonus!). I was told all of the doctors are very caring people ...
Heard Back From Inhouse Job! Jun 17, 2013Oh man I don't want to get my hopes up but I submitted my application the other day and today was asked to do the online "organizational fit assessment." I don't know if I answered the questions correctly but I did the best I could. So we'll see. Inhouse jobs don't come up very often in my community - almost never! and this one has other responsibilities too. I should add that I think I owe a lot to Preptel.com. It's a website I saw posted h ...

Opinion Please: Friend Changing From Inhouse To MQ Jan 08, 2012Ok, I have a friend who has worked inhouse for a few years for a large hospital. She makes $14 an hour with shift differential. They have pretty much cut the incentive pay out. She really doesn't get that I don't think anymore. She is fustrated with her boss and is considering going to Medquist radiology transcription. Another friend who works on the radiology side of MQ said she has not ran of work before and has 5 accounts to work on, etc. She says ...
From Inhouse To Working Remotely For MTSO Jun 19, 2014I have heard too many times where a hospital is outsourcing their transcription department and you must take the job with the MTSO, and you cannot get unemployment benefits if you don't take the job.
I have been thru it twice. Both times it was done in the most unprofessional way; in 1998 and again in 2011, two different hospitals in two different states. Both times, they lied to us, saying we must go with the MTSO and won't qualify for unemployment.
When you are laid off ...
The ESL Nightmare: Dec 26, 2009All MTs (and I'm sure that would include Indian MTs, as well!) waste time and lose money struggling with ESL dictators. It would certainly seem to me that patients of these doctors are at higher risk for medical mistakes because no one, including their co-workers, is entirely sure what they heck those people are saying.
So why don't they simply dictate in THEIR OWN NATIVE LANGUAGE, and have that work transcribed by MTs who are also native speakers of that language?&n ...
Nightmare! Jan 01, 2010I was part of that lucky group whose company number was changed, but our expansions didn't move with us. I've been trying for 2-1/2 hours to get this straightened out, was on with tech support twice and am waiting for a call back. I also enlisted my adult son who is VERY computer savvy but have been unable to get anywhere, with probably mainly Windows Vista to blame.
At this point, I would be thrilled if I at least could view my old expansion list with the hope of copying ...
Why! FTR Nightmare May 24, 2010Really feeling low today. Not only is work scarce but still recovering from Friday, when my last job of the day, of course, was the worst dictator I get, of course, and I could not even come close to complying with FTR so I had to send it through QA. There goes my numbers. Just wanted to cry, in fact, think I did.
Just once again reminds me of how disemmpowered we are at this level and it is a terrible feeling. There is really nobody you can talk to within the company structur ...
Nightmare Still Going On....... Mar 24, 2011From Western region - got e-mail from "interim QA" yesterday with attachment which was "normal lab values per KB Benchmark."
Third paragraph of e-mail said the MT should be ever vigilant for punctuation errors and errors in dictation of lab values by docs. Said if doc was in error in dictating the lab value and the MT transcribes it, IT IS THE MT's FAULT ! Does this person have a Napoleonic complex or what ? It is now expected that we must constantly check t ...
ASR Nightmare Mar 14, 2012My feeling is, ASR works you to death. I wish the docs that I type for, could see what their ASR reports look like when I first get them. I wish Vern could see how they look. I wish all the educated idiots who come up with "incentive" and "boost" ideas, could see what they look like. It is soooo tempting to just let one of those reports go through....just like it came to me...no corrections.....and let these docs who are the worst of the dicators, made us who type for them be put on 10 ...

Nuance = Nightmare May 02, 2011I wish this Nuance takeover of OSi was all just a bad dream that I will soon wake up from! Now have to sit around all day into the late hours of the night waiitiing for every little job to come in. There is no communication. The bonus was a joke. How can they call it an incentive. Nuance Nightmare Jan 14, 2013Started work as a QC at Nuance over a year ago. I was trained on what was to be my main account which was a huge group of hospitals ihere in the Southwest state where I reside. TIckled to death. I'd log in to work, do my 8 hours and sign out. Decent hourly rate, plenty of work. Never volunteered for overtime but then again it was not mandatory.

NUANCE NIGHTMARE! PART 2 : ( May 03, 2011Just got a crapload of rules, regulations, and BS from Nuance supervisor. I need an accountant and lawyer to interpret this junk. From Classic To Cornerstone Nightmare Aug 31, 2012Switching from Classic to Cornerstone is killing my income! My CCM tells me, like all bosses do when they switch to SR, that no one is going to lose their jobs, and it will be better. No. What happens is our pay drops drastically, and then the work doesn't take as long to do. Work that took 100 MTs to do can now be done by 50, and MTs lose out.
Good for MQ....bad for us.

Online Course??? Help Me!!!
