I just saw an add for an inhouse MT position.... - sz

and the pay is $10 - $14 an hour, depending on experience. Are you kidding me???
Double when you get working at McDonalds or Wal-mart - Picky picky

Plus inhouse usually means benefits which you don't get as an IC. I'd take it in a heartbeat just so I could get the hourly wage without worrying about line count determining my pay, which is especially nice if you work for somewhere that runs out of dictations and some good solid experience.
So we really can't expect better pay than entry-level McDonald's workers? - ginger

Hospital management uses a similar line of thinking to justify sending work to India. Makes me sad when I hear fellow MTs saying something like it.
What entry level position at a fast food job pays 10 to 14 an hour? - My point is..
[ In Reply To ..]
Good luck finding an abundance of MT jobs that actually pay what they should. Not during the times of greedy MTSO's and a bad economy. I'd take 10 to 14 an hour just so I'm working in the field, getting solid work experience, hopefully some benefits, and an hourly wage. It's better than searching for that high paying MT job, not finding it, and ending up at the entry level position because the bills still have to get paid.
$10 to $14 - MT who knows

$10 to $14 an hour . . . hmmm. . . well, my high school niece and nephew made $10.00 tutoring grade school kids on the side, and my high school nephew made $12.50 mopping floors in maintenance during the summer time for a local school. . . . what does that tell you . . . $10.00 pay is something a person gets who has no experience or knowledge . . . but now companies want people to be educated and knowledgeable and want the work for next to nothing or free -- meaning MT work. The MT field (line of work) is going to hell in a hand basket and anyone who doesn't do something to get out of it now is making a huge mistake.
ad for inhouse MT position; where is the ad? - decent enough; what place is it for?
I agree as far as being compared to nothing more than a McDonald's or Walmart employee. Maybe this is a good position for the MT who is married and has a 2nd source of income, but I unfortunately am a single mother, and $400 - $560 a week, minus taxes, just isn't going to cut the mustard. Unfortunely, we seem to be accepting less and less pay for what we do. I have watched my income shrink from 43K a year to less than 30. This is pathetic!!!
craig's list - i will take it
[ In Reply To ..]
I would love to see 400-560 a week. My last few checks have been well below $1000 for 2 week pay period. I guess it is time for this "old and frustrated MT" after 35 years to find another career. It is only going down from here.
Beware of Craiglist job postsings, most are scams. - ChickenLover

I found out the hard way that most are scams, phishing for your e-mail only to send you spam.
If you need proof, take the e-mail that's listed for the particular job and "google" it. Dollars to donuts you will see the same ad listed in multiple if not all states. Very disappointing when you really need work. It was a real sucker punch when I found out.
Good luck and be careful out there. If it sounds to good to be true...
Craigs list is global first of all and secondly I have both bought and sold - on Craigs, love it

So the job could be about anywhere, know the pet section is all over the place. I have bought and sold rugs from my home, bought lamps, dining set for my kitchen, glass top tables for my grand room, so much. I read articles on Craigs about every day.
I just tried this with a local med. receptionist ad; you're right, this email had ads - listed all over the U.S. What do they gain with s

The whole reason behind scams like this is to lull you into a false sense of security/hope. They may just send you crap ads in the hopes you'll respond to Viagra or something, but usually they are far more devious than that...
They may say they want/need more info for the job so please forward resume. Then they may ask for SS#, any bank numbers for payroll...it could get really ugly really fast.
$10-14 is "decent"? I just turned down inhouse - for $16/hr cuz it had no health ins.

After taxes, commute time and gas, without bennies, that one isn't worth the aggravation of having to start all over again somewhere new. Why jump from one job that's bad, to another one that's bad? If a liveable wage can't be made in MT, the I'll move on to something else. Accepting chickenfeed wages just perpetuates the problem.
[ In Reply To ..]
But you have a job. Wouldn't you rethink that if you were unemployed?
It may perpetuate the problem, who knows but if folks need jobs they can work for less until more comes along or they can have no job and no income. The choice to me is simple especially if someone is unemployed.
It may have an incentive plan though. My last inhouse - had VERY lucrative incentive program! nm
[ In Reply To ..]
You are right. It may very well have an incentive plan. The last hospital job I worked for five years had an incentive plan and I made MORE from the incentive plan than I did my regular wages. It was nice. If I were going to go out to work again on the outside, I would accept that job in a minute. Less headache than all this production stuff anymore.
$14/hour is what the local hospital here pays - Happy MT Robin

They didn't run their ad long, either, so I think they filled the jobs pretty quickly.
Gone are the days of 20$ an hour and great - benefits for in house -
[ In Reply To ..]
The market is glutted with laid off medical transcriptionists wanting in-house jobs to avoid slaving for MTSOs with horrible work schedules, no guarantee of work. In light of that, 14 an hour with benefits sure sounds better than minimum wage which is what some of us are ending up with at MTSOs due to ESL and not enough work.
14 an hour - mt way too long
[ In Reply To ..]
Having done this for 32 years, if a hospital offered me a job making 14 an hour with benefits, I would grab it! Not much out there. If they paid incentive with that, it would be wonderful. Lots of them do pay incentive. someone with experience could make good money there.
$20/hr. jobs are going away because we MTs - are afraid to stick our necks out

Hello! Can anyone tell me how much difference on average is the pay working inhouse for a clinic (not a hospital) versus working as an IC from home? Thank you for you time! :) ...
Hello:
I interviewed today for a psychology practice that is offering $8.50/hour for a receptionist/transcriptionist position (for 3 psychologists). I thought, well, perhaps there is not much transcription involved, but was told that would be the majority of the workday. I feel this would be interesting work, I need the benefits provided, and all the doctors are English as first language speakers (a bonus!). I was told all of the doctors are very caring people ...
Oh man I don't want to get my hopes up but I submitted my application the other day and today was asked to do the online "organizational fit assessment." I don't know if I answered the questions correctly but I did the best I could. So we'll see. Inhouse jobs don't come up very often in my community - almost never! and this one has other responsibilities too. I should add that I think I owe a lot to Preptel.com. It's a website I saw posted h ...
I was finally able to get hired by a local hospital that very rarely has openings. I will get to work from home once I am up to speed on their platform....doing VR....getting paid by the hour....benefits for the family of only $200/month....and PTO time. I couldn't be happier. I have been slugging it out with MTSOs for 10 years and am finally getting out of this rat race. It was music to my ears when I asked what the chances are of them ever turning their work over to a MTSO and they sa ...
Ok, I have a friend who has worked inhouse for a few years for a large hospital. She makes $14 an hour with shift differential. They have pretty much cut the incentive pay out. She really doesn't get that I don't think anymore. She is fustrated with her boss and is considering going to Medquist radiology transcription. Another friend who works on the radiology side of MQ said she has not ran of work before and has 5 accounts to work on, etc. She says ...
I have heard too many times where a hospital is outsourcing their transcription department and you must take the job with the MTSO, and you cannot get unemployment benefits if you don't take the job.
I have been thru it twice. Both times it was done in the most unprofessional way; in 1998 and again in 2011, two different hospitals in two different states. Both times, they lied to us, saying we must go with the MTSO and won't qualify for unemployment.
When you are laid off ...

Someone who works at Medquist on the radiology side said that radiology isn't as bad as the acute care side. She said she has not ran out of work yet, and she has been there several months. I know what I see on these boards about the acute care side. Does this pertain to the radiology side too or is it different? ...
I know from previous posts on here that that job isn't the big thing MQ was making it out to be (horrible editing pay, etc). BUT...do you guys at least have work to do, whether it is typing or editing? I am just an MT and I run out of work daily. If I had become an MME as well, would I have at least been making a little money, or are you guys running out of work too, no matter what?
Thanks. ...
I just wrote a very long post, but decided to minimalize it because I feel very on edge with my company and I'm doing the absolute best I can.
If you know the hospital that hired your company is not happy with the work that is being produced, and you are able to see glaring errors in other people's work, would you say something to management or keep it to yourself?
This is MY job too, and if the errors continue I am afraid the hospital will go elsewhere, meaning my job is gone as wel ...

Are there any MMEs out there who regret having become an MME? And if you become an MME, are you able to go back to just MT status if you decide you do not like it?
I am trying to understand how this is considered a pay boost and if it is worth testing for.
Did you see a significant increase in pay, a slight increase, no increase at all, or did you actually lose money?
Thanks. ...

Can somebody kindly let me know if any company is hiring for QA? I have 5 years exp in QA and 3 in MT. Ever since the smaller company I work for was purchased by Nuance my position has gone to bleep. The following nasty gram was sent to all independent contractors from the company owner. I'm just curious to know . . . how many ICs treated like this?
Hi everyone - I wanted to touch base with all of you immediately, as we have a very serious problem. Aside from a very few MTs who have notified us in advance that they would be out, we have many MTs who are not working their agreed upon shift and it has put us in a serious hole. Considering a position with KeyStrokes. However, I'm wondering how QA is with grammar the stuff. I'm getting QA'd to death where I'm at now. I'll change things according to how QA says it should be, but the next time it's still not right.......one time it's use a semi-colon, next time it's put in a comma, next time it's start a whole new sentence, etc., etc. I'm pulling my hair out! I'm getting so tired of changing things only t ...

I need some advice about a position that I am being offered. It is an IC position. They want Tu-Sat or Sun-Thurs and 1500 lines per day. This is supposedly 70% VR and the rest is straight typing. I know that techniqually they aren't supposed to require weekend work and line requirements for IC, but how is the best way to negotiate this and still get the job? I hate the job that I am currently doing and don't make enough money at it. I usually do work ...
Again, I am interested in the position posted for the Orthopedic transcription. The ad says will train. The days of the week are perfect. I am semi-retired preparing to work out of my home after my husband retires next year. I have 34+ years of psychiatric transcription and I am familiar with medical terminology. I recently completed the training course through Career Step.
Please advise. ...
Yesterday on the job seeker's board, there was an ad looking for an orthopedic MT and it is no longer there. Could this have been a scam? Now I'm nervous because I sent my resume.
