TTS, A QUESTION TO ASK RECRUITER - ALICE

Posted: May 17, 2012

One question to ask the TTS recruiter these days, should you apply for a position there, is this:

"What are the plans for this account you are offering me?  Will it be a permanent, long-term assignment for me, or will the account be going back to the client, "in-house" or elsewhere as soon as the platform learns VR?"  If she replies that she doesn't know, consider asking her to consult with someone in the company who does know, like the team leader,  and then come back to you with more information, or let you discuss it with the team leader, or whatever it takes to get an accurate answer, as the answer may affect your decision as to whether or not you want to accept the position.

As we may have all experienced, me included, sometimes MTSO recruiters simply don't provide all the details of the job, whether purposeful or not, for whatever reason, especially if we don't know enough about it or know exactly what to ask.

I'm curious as to why you singled out TTS. I was going to apply for a position with them, but after the horrible things I've heard about them, thought maybe I wouldn't. Do you work for them currently? Any good or bad review would be great!

My friend recently worked for them, and I was shocked to hear about what reminds me of a bait and switch type of scenario. This is why I wrote the post, as an alert to future applicants. She said when they installed Editscript onto her computer, they made changes to the computer and Word software that she has not yet figured out how to switch back to what it was before, although I think there is a way to roll it back. She said that the best experience was with the trainer, but that the job continued to go downhill from there. It might work out for you, especially if you don't mind learning an account, but only doing it for a very short time until VR kicks in, and then moving to another account. Also, it helps if you have radiology experience, as this is apparently mixed in with the acute care account in the same pool. She said the benefits were more expensive than she could ever afford, with extremely high deductibles, but I'm not sure about the details on that. Good luck to you.

I currently work for TTS and was very hesitant to apply based on things I had read on this board. However, because I love EditScript and they had a variety of work on that platform from which to choose, I bit the bullet.

I have to say I have been extremely impressed with the process from my interaction with the recruiter through training and now with my team lead. I'm not sure about the OP's friend, but it was clearly explained to me (by the recruiter) about the various accounts and that they have an account with facilities all over the country where they are slowly adding the facilities one at a time and that work for each hospital is only temporary and then you move on to the next one. Again, I was given the option for a standard account or the "migrating" one and I chose the migrating account. I like the fact that you start doing 100% straight typing and then over a month or so as the system learns the dictators, it moves to VR with some straight typing still mixed in with it. Once the VR is in place and the hospital has their own in-house MTs trained, then there is a Go Live for the next facility and the process repeats. Again, I like the variety and the ability to do straight typing 100% (which is so rare anymore) at least in the beginning, and then knowing that within a month or two, I will be moving on to a new facility, etc. Downside is if you have a great account with great dictators, you are not going to be there long; upside is if you have a terrible account with terrible dictators, you are not going to be there long!

Again, that was all fully explained to me - I was also offered a steady account as a primary where the bulk of the work was already VR, but that would be steady, primary full-time account. I also specifically asked what happens with the migrating account when all the facilities have been brought on board. I was told that either they would have new accounts that would need the same process or they always have openings and I could be placed on a regular account at that time. Of course, there is a small chance that there would be no openings and the job would run out, but I went with my eyes open and feel certain that there are most certainly always available slots for an MT within a company, especially if you have done good work and been a quality employee during your tenure.

On this migrating account, I have had no radiology dictation mixed in with the acute care; on the first day of the Go Live, we did get some pathology, but it was due to dictator error (new system and we were all learning, even the doctors), but once they got that straight, it has been all acute care since.

The insurance is expensive (about 250 month for single), but it is United Healthcare and is one of the more comprehensive policies paying 100% after the copay & deductible which, for me, is better than than one that has copays, deductible, and then you still have to pay 20% to 30% of the billed amount.

I would say apply and give it a shot and just choose the type account that best fits you. Not denying that others may have had a different experience, but based on my experience thus far, I would highly recommend. I wish you much success no matter what you choose!

P.S. Sorry for the ramble, but was trying to answer each point in the original post.

You have given a good explanation of how things work except when I was hired, none of this was explained to me, but I quickly figured out on my own that we were training from scratch for facilities new to VR. I had told them that I had never done VR, and they told me that it would be straight transcription at first, and I could ease into the VR. I never expected the account I worked on to go away, albeit slowly, and I had to beg for a secondary account. When my secondary account started to go away, again I had to beg for another account. As far as my situation, I went through a period of no work/low work which means less pay. I finally have a primary and secondary that are able to keep me busy and are mostly VR but it took a long time and a lot of frustration to get to this point. Maybe they have changed their way of doing things when hiring new people and are explaining things better, and I'm glad for that. As far as the health care, I think the cost is pretty reasonable compared to what I'd be paying if I purchased it on my own in a nongroup situation. I had been payng $400 a month for a polciy that covered nothing until you reached a $5000 deductible. As far as line rates go though, I do wish they would make the VR rate half of the straight rate. As it is now my VR rate is less than half. I can do around 200 lpn straight, which is fine, but can only do aobut 300 lph on VR, so I am losing money with this situation.

A comment from a post a few days ago has really been eating at me, so I'm finally compelled to respond. "I work for MedQuist as a recruiter. We understand how transient the transcription world is (employees hopping from one company to another)." One common misperception of MTs is that we're transients, more or less gypsies.  Years  ago, a VP of one of the very largest MTSOs told me "behind closed doors" that we were really just prostitutes whose pretty little heads could be ...

SS Recruiter Was It Just Me?
Sep 13, 2012

I had an interview earlier today wtih SS and I felt the recruiter was a bit snippy and condescending with the way the interview was handled.  The first thing she mentioned was the fact that she was "late and that the interview would have to be cut short" because when she tried to call me, she got the message that "all circuits were busy," on the phone line.  (Well it was 12 p.m. EST my time and we were having storms at the time).  I cannot control the phone lines or the phone comp ...

Looks Like A Certain Recruiter At SS Got Let Go

Recruiter E-mail
Aug 10, 2010

Has anyone else received a random e-mail from a MedQuist recruiter.  I got an e-mail this week from one advising me that they have openings for full and part-time acute care after 11 a.m. and radiology 1st and 2nd shift, $500 bonus, yada yada yada.  I have never applied at MedQuist and probably never will after reading about everything that they put their employees through.  I am not even looking for a job right now.  Why would they send these e-mails out when there ...

The Recruiter Is *ALWAYS* Nice
Dec 02, 2011

After some coworkers and I applied for positions with a different company, I was floored by how many went on and on about the recruiter being "so nice" and how that translated -- in their minds -- into a reflection of their immediate supervisor and everyone else within the company. OF COURSE the recruiter is nice!  If she weren't personable and didn't have that type of personality, most likely she would not be in the position of recruiter.  Only the WORST managed companies ( ...

Recruiter Really Pursuing Me - Regarding Radiology

I didn't even apply to your company but for some reason they're all over me, calling and emailing.  I type radiology only; I told the recruiter that.  He insists I need to put in an application and test, but I'm not sure I want to spend the time and of course he refuses to give me any details until I spend it.  I know the Q's reputation is pretty bad - so I'm asking - how are the rad accounts?  And why don't they just advertise for rad MT's ...
