SS Recruiter was it just me? - nonny

Posted: Sep 13, 2012

I had an interview earlier today wtih SS and I felt the recruiter was a bit snippy and condescending with the way the interview was handled.  The first thing she mentioned was the fact that she was "late and that the interview would have to be cut short" because when she tried to call me, she got the message that "all circuits were busy," on the phone line.  (Well it was 12 p.m. EST my time and we were having storms at the time).  I cannot control the phone lines or the phone company and sorry that you only have a half hour block to deal with each candidate and that you have to be so detailed with your questions.  She asked how I felt about the BOS and I told her how I felt (I disagree with some of the changes that have come about because of the BOS and feel that it is more an attack on grammar and punctuation, which should really have no bearing on patient care, but JMO).  The other thing too, was "my recent work record," where it appeared I had been "job hopping."  Well yes, maybe I had, but I might have also been working a second job to try to make a decent living.  I am not a newbie MT but found the way she asked questoins very odd to say the least and again, a bit cold.

It was not just you - And it just gets worse

I worked for them for a few months and got so sick of the daily condescending emails. The lack of work was the final straw and I quit. I have no regrets about leaving them.

Don't Even Bother Raging At - whathappened

She is very snippy and condescending. When she told me what my schedule would be, I repeated her statement and she snapped, "That's what I just said!" I said sweetly, "Yes, I was reiterating your statement to make sure I understood you. Thanks so much for confirming that." Totally went over her head. You know what? Once you are hired she is nothing but an unpleasant memory. Nobody at SS is as bad as she is, and it's sad that MTs who would be good for SS are scared off by her. Middle management has definitely heard of her from the new hires but they just roll their eyes. There are more serious things to worry about at SS, like lack of work.

Huh? - anon

If there is no work at SS, then why are the constantly hiring? Sounds like exactly the kind of company ALL MTs should stay away from.

CONSTANTLY running out of work, can't get enough lines to qualify sm - btdt

for benefits, snippy emails from PMs, slow antiquated software ... only good thing about SS was the pay was on time and usually early, what little bit of pay there was. I have no idea why they are still in business or anyone continues to work for them.

It is! RUN, RUN FAST! The e-mails get worse!

SS Recruiter - I thought she was okay in the interview - Although her emails were snippy..

[ In Reply To ..]
But now I'm worried to read all these other emails regarding lack of work. Is there a lack of work across all accounts? During day shift? Or across all shifts? It is also concerning to see that some MTs don't make enough lines to qualify for benefits - is that a common occurrence?

Yes across the board out of work - anon

I was on about 10 accounts and ran out of work ALL THE TIME. I mean hours on end of no work.

I am pretty sure they do not have their own accounts and only do overflow for other companies.

Work Situation Changes Practically Hourly - You Never Know

[ In Reply To ..]
There will be no work, then work for 2 weeks, then no work, no work, no work, then lots of work on certain accounts (not mine, sadly) no work, no work, LOTS of work, OVERTIME--oops, sorry overtime is now cancelled after 3 hours, no work, no work, no work. You literally do not know from day to day what's going on. I have 6 accounts, 4 of which I type rarely, so when I get them I have to spend valuable time reacquainting myself with the account specifics. I think they overhire for the times when there is work, then those MTs quit when it gets back to the "no work" norm a few weeks later, then the cycle starts up all over again.

Follow up to interview another odd thing - nonny

[ In Reply To ..]
Well, booted up my computer at 8:30 EST and as I was opening mail, got an email from SS recruiter, stating that they could not offer me a position, which I pretty much figured would happen with the way things went yesterday. Again, I just found the whole interview process rather "odd," in the sense of the way the questions were asked, etc., and normally, at the end of the interview is when employment is extended. This is the first company that I have run across that has done things that way.

SS followup interview - pookbina

I did not have a problem with the man who interviewed me. He said nothing condescending to me and was pleasant at SS,but I never heard anything back, had to get back with them about everything. But I did find too that the daily e-mails were condescending and really didn't even make sense, that they didn't know any better that to treat folks that way, just not common sense. Positive can motivate better than negative. They never saw anything wrong with the treatment they handed out apparently though.

When I started working I was switched over also on accounts 3 to 4 different times, finally got a crap account that was ortho with fast talking docs and SS holds against you the percentage you send to QA, so it was durned if you do, durned it you don't. If you don't send to QA you get in trouble with the QA review and if you do send to QA then that is held against you too. No win situation.

Must be different recruiters - sm

The one I got was very nice and offered me the job right away after a 10-minute interview.

Not sure - nn

This one was DN. I just thought the line of questioning was odd as to how I felt regarding the BOS, etc.,(I disagree with some of the polices of the BOS, BUT will adhere to the rules, like a good little girl) and in this day and age, there is, at least, I think more "job hopping" going on when people are trying to find a company that offers steady work. Many of the positions that I had held in the past, I was working for two companies at a time. The last two long-term employers that I had (over a year) have now just recently, within this year been bought out by MModal and Imedix. I worked for Nuance for a very brief period of time last year and didn't even list them on my resume. Other companies have now either gone out of business or been assimilated. I really have not had much luck in finding anything. I have recently started having problems in my right and left hands as well with my fingers suddenly "freezing or locking," and I am not even at the computer when this happens. (My left side is my dominant side because of slight CP). Because of this, I find that I have a hard time using the keyboard commands for VR and really want to try to find something that is just straight typing. GRRRR

Kind of freacky they read MTStars - dish

Did you see on MT Jobs that SS is looking for a recruiter at the corporate offices posted 9/18? Wonder if they got so many direct complaints or if we should watch what we say cuz they found out here?

To MQ Recruiter
Nov 11, 2011

A comment from a post a few days ago has really been eating at me, so I'm finally compelled to respond. "I work for MedQuist as a recruiter. We understand how transient the transcription world is (employees hopping from one company to another)." One common misperception of MTs is that we're transients, more or less gypsies.  Years  ago, a VP of one of the very largest MTSOs told me "behind closed doors" that we were really just prostitutes whose pretty little heads could be ...

Looks Like A Certain Recruiter At SS Got Let Go
Oct 19, 2012

Just went to another job board and noticed SS has an opening for a recruiter.  I'm wondering since I did call the company and talked to "A" about this person, if other people followed suit and they decided to let her go.  I may call back and see if I could still be hired (it has been about a month since I had my bad interview experience with DN). ...

Anybody know?  I applied at TTS before and a lady who said she was the owner said to call her assistant who was also recruiter.  This recruiter called me once and said she would like to hire me and would get back to me but she didn't.  I called back 2 weeks later to follow up and she went crazy that I had the audacity to phone her. Recruiter E-mail
Aug 10, 2010

Has anyone else received a random e-mail from a MedQuist recruiter.  I got an e-mail this week from one advising me that they have openings for full and part-time acute care after 11 a.m. and radiology 1st and 2nd shift, $500 bonus, yada yada yada.  I have never applied at MedQuist and probably never will after reading about everything that they put their employees through.  I am not even looking for a job right now.  Why would they send these e-mails out when there ...

The Recruiter Is *ALWAYS* Nice
Dec 02, 2011

After some coworkers and I applied for positions with a different company, I was floored by how many went on and on about the recruiter being "so nice" and how that translated -- in their minds -- into a reflection of their immediate supervisor and everyone else within the company. OF COURSE the recruiter is nice!  If she weren't personable and didn't have that type of personality, most likely she would not be in the position of recruiter.  Only the WORST managed companies ( ...

TTS, A QUESTION TO ASK RECRUITER
May 17, 2012

One question to ask the TTS recruiter these days, should you apply for a position there, is this: "What are the plans for this account you are offering me?  Will it be a permanent, long-term assignment for me, or will the account be going back to the client, "in-house" or elsewhere as soon as the platform learns VR?"  If she replies that she doesn't know, consider asking her to consult with someone in the company who does know, like the team leader,  and then come back to yo ...

Recruiter Really Pursuing Me - Regarding Radiology
Aug 18, 2010

I didn't even apply to your company but for some reason they're all over me, calling and emailing.  I type radiology only; I told the recruiter that.  He insists I need to put in an application and test, but I'm not sure I want to spend the time and of course he refuses to give me any details until I spend it.  I know the Q's reputation is pretty bad - so I'm asking - how are the rad accounts?  And why don't they just advertise for rad MT's ...

Contact By Recruiter, Platform Question
Jul 13, 2012

I worked for Medquist in 2006.  I didn't stay long, but those 5 months seemed like a year.  There were some of the very worst dictating clinicians that I've ever heard and I always ended my shift with a severe headache.  Communication was practically nonexistent except for when QA wanted to complain.  I remember receiving an email once where the QA woman was responding to a report that I had worked on for more than an hour.  It was barely decipherable.  He ...
