LM still has Baycribe accounts that are straight typing and they hire IC...not usually enough work to keep you busy thought, but okay for secondary income. SoftScript is straight typing, not IC though, I don't believe, but they are HORRID, lol.
I have lost jobs as well - rb

I have now lost 2 jobs due to EHR within a 6 month period. The job I just started in 9/2012 I was told would not be eliminated when they went EHR. Well, we went live and now I have no work! So, I am going to work for MModal. At least it is a job, but I hope it works out. Both of my previous jobs were in-house, with one of the facilities I worked independently for as well. All was squashed with EHR and Dragon, but I could not transition into editing because they thought Dragon was perfect and would not let me do that.
MModal now uses 'speech understanding' - XMMMT

or are in the process of it. it not only is voice recognition, but it also 'understands' - and the push seems to be moving away from 'free text' as fast as possible. I just saw a sample of an MIE chart, in which a doctor dictates and the program not only 'hears/recognizes' the words, it actually puts them where they are supposed to be (like medication section, history, etc.) - and even remembers how a certain doctor dictates - for the future. (it learns)
it also eventually will code the dx either from dictation, or with drop-down menus which also 'learn' as they go, and remember specifics for each doctor.
although fascinating, it still leads me to wonder, what types of jobs will people have exactly, where do we fit in, any of us? I just want names of jobs and what the duties will be, because all I hear also is how fast this technology is happening, and there seems to be a race even between these tech companies to be the one to come up with the standards that will be used, if healthcare is nationalized. (is that the right word?).
From the website: Benefits of M*Modal Speech Understandingâ„¢:
â€Â˘Higher quality documentation
â€Â˘Improvements in clinical documentation initiatives
â€Â˘Transcription cost savings
â€Â˘Increased physician satisfaction and productivity
â€Â˘Promotes EHR adoption
â€Â˘Meet the Meaningful Use criteria
â€Â˘Improved communication with referring physicians
â€Â˘Enhanced evidence-based decision making
â€Â˘Drive greater collaboration

it puts it in, even if not dictated. I spent so much time taking out stuff not dictated.
Their ASR software can't even put together a coherent sentence, so - sm

I wouldn't hold my breath that this will amount to much. Actually, I'd like to be a fly on the wall when the doctors see the garbage it cranks out & have to edit it themselves...
I've given VR a fair shot for close to a year now, but I still type much faster than I edit, so I've lost quite a bit of money since my account went to VR last year. I know that VR is almost everywhere these days, but does anyone know of any decent companies that still have straight typing and are actually hiring right now? I'm looking for acute care and I really don't care if it's IC or employee status at this point. I just want to do regular transcrip ...
I have over 15+ years experience but stopped working in November of 2010 to be at home with my two young boys and give them my full attention. Now that they are both in school, I am wanting to start back typing again. I have looked on several sites but mostly all I find is VR or SR jobs, which I despise. Can anyone tell me of any places that hire for straight typing? Thanks! ...
I personally, am getting really tired of the posts regarding "who is the best company to work for, who offers straight tying as ooposed t to VR etc. I now worK for a company that is straight typing only and pays weekly. and pays a decent wage. I have also talked to MTSOs within the last 2 months, that REFUSE t0 d0 VR, and the hospitals have agreed not to do VR. What may be a "good fit" for one person, is not going to be a good fit for another. I&nb ...
Got new accounts for the last 2 weeks that are not ASR (yet) so have been doing about 90% straight typing. I have been averaging about $20 more per day than when I do ASR. They can sell whatever snake oil they want, I can type faster and make more money straight typing than I can with their much-touted fabulous ASR --- EVEN ON BRAND NEW UNFAMILIAR ACCOUNTS. ...
I'm just a tad embarrassed but I need to ask. I just applied for a job that is "straight typing" but I don't know what that means. Can anyone help me? Thanks. ...
Hi everyone. I am putting in applications and I want to apply at jobs with straight typine, no VR. If anyone knows of any, please let me know. The VR is boring and while none of them pay the way they used to, I know that I could make more on straight typing...I have 9 years experience. ...
Are there any accounts at Nuance that are straight typing and not VR? I find with VR I still have to make so many corrections it doesn't justify the pay per line so I might as well go back to straight typing, if those accounts even exist anymore. ...
Hmm, let's see. We get a letter from MQ extolling our virtues as MTs, more and more info about nationalizing the EMR with Verizon, etc. and I notice I'm not the only one getting less ASR, more direct typing. Could be a coincidence, but could be MQ is gathering statistics on us, how the voice recognition program of MQ compares with our production as MTs versus straight typing on our own. Could MQ be using us as guinea pigs right now to pad their statistics to prove the ...
I've been away from the msg boards awhile. Is there any company out there big or small, that still does transcription the "Old fashioned way", typing instead of VR? I've tried the VR, Hate it, make no money. Surely there is a company out there somewhere that still values us and pays decently?? anyone? ...
Does anyone else out there get scared when you get a straight typing report?  Every time I get a straight typed report, the dictator sucks, sound quality sucks, or both. I am totally scared every time a blank screen pops up. Don't mean to sound unappreciative of the increased income, but sometimes I feel like I am being pulled through a needle backwards! ...
I have a pretty good and accurate typing speed, which has made me pretty good money in the past. Then along comes VR. I have had somewhat success with it, if the right dictation is placed on it. The problem comes in when a company tries to put anything and everything on VR that does not belong there. It defeats the purpose of using it in the first place.
I am told that the computer calculates the accuracy of a report. If it is 80% or more, it goes on VR. ...
I used to love my job, being an at-home medical transcriptionist. I used to make around $20-25 an hour straight typing and thought being an at-home medical transcriptionist was the best job ever! The flexibility of working from home and flexing my hours was great! I could get the kids off to school, work for a couple of hours, go shopping, work for a couple of hours, just so I made production requirements and everything was great!
Unfortunately, things changed and they started making us ...
Where oh where do people find these straight typing jobs? If you don't want to share your company I completely understand, but could you possibly point me in the right direction?
Thanks so much!! ...
I was never given a minimum LPH, but I feel I'm not getting a good line count. I've been here about a couple months, straight typing, Ambulatory. Just wondering what others are averaging and any tips to improve line count? I've been doing this for 10 years, but have always been paid hourly before coming here. ...
I am pretty sure I know the answer but need to prove it.
I know Nuance is primarily VR with some typing accounts. If you get a doctor who is on VR and you decide to type it instead of using VR you will get the pay per line for VR not straight typing? ...
Or do I just need to bite the bullet and start doing VR? My job is straight typing 9-5 M-F! Perfect right? Not anymore. I'm an eTransplus employee and the big shot MQ bought them out, so I can either go to work for them or I can look at other jobs with other companies. I doubt there are any straight typing jobs left right? If so, they will probably switch over soon huh?
Would like to know if anyone is doing ok on VR with the company you're wit ...
