Archivus cutting pay? SM - greymare

Posted: Oct 26, 2010

Does this company hire and then after a quarterly review have QA pick your work apart and then tell you they can either terminate your contract or cut your pay.  Understand this has happened to more than one person.  Has anyone experienced this.  They told me I was doing awesome work, not they picked the work after and then tell me that in 2 weeks my contract will either be terminated or will have a reduced line rate.  This makes no sense.  I have 18 years experience.  If they do not like my work at 8 cpl why would they keep me at 7 cpl if my work was not good enough.   Some of the work QA'd I did not even recognize as mine.  I am not the only one who has experienced this.  Any one else?

Something similar happened where I work, too. - Also, I work for a big co. that - sm

bought out the smaller co. I worked for originally. The smaller company was still very quality-conscious, and would let you know in an instant if you messed up, but they still were constantly commending me on my work, as well, describing it as "beautiful" "outstanding grasp of the English language", etc. Then new co. bought us, and first they cut our pay with no reason, other than they felt like it. Since then, all I ever get is complaints from QA. And yes, I've been "written up" for mistakes on work I never even typed.

Whatever. As soon as I can find something else to do, I'm GONE.

Transportal does the same thing - picky

if your quality falls below standard during an audit, you are cut back to 7 cpl until the next audit. This started at Archivus and then when the suits moved to Transportal, they brought this stupid rule with them.

And there's a problem with that? - Anon

So, would you rather be let go due to quality concerns? I am assuming that a temporary reduced rate would be for added QA costs due to poor quality as a result of your audit. I think I side with the MTSO on this one unless you dispute your audit results.

to find ways to cut our pay. Are you saying that MTs should pay for QA costs? I always thought that it was the MTSOs who "hired" QA people. I do believe in top quality work and if someone is getting a poor quality result on their audit, the reasons for the poor quality should be addressed with that MT, so they can learn by it and move on.

If you can't produce quality work, then it would seem logical that a service would either cut you loose or have to devote additional resources to assist you in getting your quality to where it meets the required audit levels. Not that I am in favor of lower rates, but rather than firing you, it sounds like that particular service puts you on a proactive QA that has added cost. Just guessing, but perhaps you should ask for details. Unless you are a newbie in a mentor scenario, audit level quality is expected.
I agree with you about quality, but honestly, if - shortcake

you have been doing this a while then you know must realize how these MTSO's change the rules on a daily basis and throw different accts at you and demand a certain line count to be met or you lose your benefits although those lines are not available during your shift that you must adhere to or else, and at the same time you have to work all kinds of hours, weekends and holiday, yadda yadda, I could go on forever with the negatives of this industry, BUT I don't the OP is someone who is producing sub-quality product, but rather someone who this particular MTSO wants to pay less money to. I trust none of these MTSO's anymore. They use us and throw us away.
I know the quality of my post would lower my line rate or possibly get me fired, sorry for typos!nm - shortcake

If one is strictly adhering to a standard, (BOS or very clearly defined account instructions), fine. Otherwise, ''Quality'' is a subjective term. Nit-picking, ambiguous account instructions, constant changing of rules, and QA's own individual personal preferences have nothing to do with ''quality''. If these companies are instructing or permitting their QAs to split hairs over pettiness in order to pay MTs at a cheaper rate, then that is fraudulent and shameful.

I'm right there with ya on that!!

Good point. Why WOULD they not like you at 8cpl - but be willing to keep you for 7? Do they

think we are stupid? I think they are less than smart if this question did not come up in the "meeting of geniuses" that came up with this.

I agree, excellent statement. Also, - SignMeMT

at my company with the threat to lower our line rate, the reason is usually because the dictator has entered incorrect information in the demographics and there is no burden of quality on their part evidently. I was trained to do medical transcription, not babysit the dictator, do that enough in correcting the VR. To make matters worst, we don't get paid for headers so correcting demographics/headers is on me. BUT can lose 1 CPL over something we don't get paid for in the first place and someone above me (who will never be penalized at all) has entered incorrectly. Something doesn't seem right here.

Now before the rash of comments begin, I do always make every attempt to provide the PATIENT the most accurate record possible. I also know there are HIPAA fines for violations in incorrect patient and facility information - just not sure why the bottom of the chain of command is the person that has to carry the burden for this.

Thank you expressing yourself. I have told them the audio is horrible. The docs sit there scribbling with their ball point pens which I can hear clearly but cannot bother to pick up and dictate into the microphone. Supervisor said "poor audio is not an excuse for poor quality." Excuse me?? Then no spelling of 4-5-6 names for a carbon copy (for which I do not get pain for anyway) and that I have to research on the web to figure how to spell, not to mention if I am wrong HIPPA could fine me. These docs have the chart right in front of them and if they want a cc to go to for instance a Dr. Patel (which they have in front of them on the chart and there are 25) they can at least say so. I am sick of sloppy dictators and accomodating them and tell me it is my work, and then telling me it is my fault when they know it is a crap account with docs who are lazy and spoiled rotten.

Reduced rate for poor quality - swimmom

Wow, seriously???? You think there's something wrong with a rate cut for failing your QA review? They do it so you realize this is a serious issue and they keep you so you have a chance to improve most likely putting you back on 100% QA. If you think there is something wrong with them caring about good quality, you are in the wrong business.

Wow, seriously???? - SignMeMT

Do they penalize the dictator who loads the information incorrectly in the first place? Wow, seriously!!! No penalizing us in lowering pay (which I hold near and dear to my heart) is not the way to improve my quality!! Not in the wrong business at all. VR and test with the best of them for the past 20 years, just finding more and more that the quality issues have nothing to do with our expertise in medical terminology, pharmacology, surgical instruments, etc. Just a way to pass the buck and let the offenders get more sloppy. Penalize them for the "serious issue and give them a chance to improve" for their mistakes, not me!! Seriously, wow????

Archivas - Grandy

[ In Reply To ..]
Why would a company keep an unqualified transcription, even at 7 cpl? Obviously this is not your work but an Archivas scam. Maybe someone should alert their contracts that they are offering to keep sub-standard transcriptionists (by their definition).

One person I know is in the process of having an attory launch a lawsuit after looking over her contact. They did the same thing to her. Actually what they reviewed her on was a quality review and she did not even recognise the reports as even being her work. She ended up getting another job but the lawsuit is still being worked on. She told me it was "stictly about the money." First they told me I did awesome work, then they want to tear me a new lower GI tract location and at a lower rate of pay? Then my friend told them they were out of contract when they told her "oh no we are in the process of revising contracts. Say what? They told me after another 2 week review I would me free to leave or work at a lower rate of pay. They admit that the account was "frustrating" to say the least.

Don't be surprised by anything this company does.  I'm sure it's all about money.  Most likely the supervisor's boss told them they need to cut cost on that account and this was their way of doing things.  What do you expect when this company is owned by an Indian company that outsources overseas? (research etransmedia).  Place went downhill once the previous owners left for Transportal.  Heck, the company itself is even listed as foreign, copy and paste this link:   http://www.secretary.state.nc.us/corporations/Corp.aspx?PitemId=8966927

They don't hold the dictator accountable for anything, or demographics, just blame the MTs.   This place is ran by incompetant people.  I'd do what I did and find a new home to type for before they let you go for no reason.

What Is Up With All Of These Companies Cutting The Pay For Straight
Jun 07, 2011

I'm not understanding if a person was making 8 or 9 cents a line for straight transcription and then the account goes to voice rec and the pay is decreased for that, why is the pay for straight transcription also going down?  It's the same doctors, so why am I now suddenly worth 2 cents less to do straight transcription?  Personally, if it isn't VR worthy, then you would think that it would still be worth the 8 or 9 cents a line.  ...
