I once had a job where the employer was deducting taxes from my paychecks every week, but wasn't making his quarterly payments or payroll taxes. They tried to come after me for the money until I sent them a copy of every single pay stub showing the deductions. Fortunately, I had quit by then so I don't know the outcome, but the IRS and the FTB never contacted me again.

This was some years ago, but it obviously has implications for employees' Social Security benefits if payments aren't in order. Very sorry that this mistreatment continues.
