I am having trouble finding employment. I am single & responsible for all my own finances. Apparently, I am asking for the impossible -- a decent-paying job with benefits. Companies all require an MT to be extremely knowledgeable in all aspects of medical terminology & anatomy/physiology, highly proficient in grammar, formats & programs, able to work any hours/holidays requested and able to type as fast as Superwoman with 98-99% accuracy. In return, they offer low pay & no benefits. If MTs would stop accepting this mistreatment, maybe companies would start realizing you get what you pay for. It is so sad that I could get a job flipping burgers at a fast food restaurant for a starting pay of $12 an hour plus benefits & am offered swamp land to transcribe important, permanent medical information that could be a life or death situation if errors are made. I am futilely hoping some of these companies will see this post & realize the injustice.
