I agree with you 100%, the IC status is perfectly legal and works perfectly when used as intended, just as you described and I worked that way in the past, no complaints. But, when they want you to work a schedule, work 50-60 hours, call you and text you when you are off, etc., then it is not IC and you should have employee status and the benefits that go with it. There are very few industries where the largest percentage of work is done by ICs. Anyway, many companies do follow the guidelines and offering IC status is great for those that need and/or want it.
