As things stand currently, IC MTs are not able to negotiate pay rates. It is pretty much a take it or leave kind of thing. True IC status would imply that you do not need to provide a schedule. That is very rare. In Canada, the large MTSOs do not offer employee status and require minimum minutes for part-time workers and full-time workers. For part-time workers, the minutes are between 250 minutes to 350 minutes. For full-time workers, the minimum is between 500 minutes and 700 minutes. To get those kinds of minutes in, you really do need to kind of work a schedule, don't you? There is much less flexibility in MT than there used to be. Blame that on tighter and tighter turnaround times. That leads to being bombarded with work to having no work at all. IC has become a real joke. Many ICs should be classified as employees.
