RE: Petition - LoveMT

I agree that all MTs are mistreated, underpaid, not appreciated as professionals and the physicians are overworked and pressured to making money and making more money (for administration and the hospital system). Administrators are making these decisions based on false promises from very well-trained salespeople, tickling their ears to cutting transcription costs and that the SR is so accurate that only very little editing is needed. Any MT who has worked doing editing will tell you another story - the all very sad but true story. I have 30+ years experience, half was as IC and the other 15 years running my own company - lost to EMR/Editscript, lost income, lost home, trying editing and sometimes making $3/hour (ESL who had absolutely no business being allowed to use SR). I am now studying with Career Steps to learn editing and then more acute care with op notes, etc to get more experience and hopefully be able to restart my business doing the acute care. The government should be setting the standards in conjunction with AHDI - no overseas, no penalties, QA available to assist not condemn, educate the hospital administrators about the facts as opposed to the misleading salesperson's fallacies, standardize all reports (written out one through nine or numerical 1-9, 15mg, 15 mg, 15-mg, abbreviations or no abbreviations such as vs, versus, or AFib, Afib, atrial fibrillation) and not allowing different accounts making up their own preferences which would make it much less confusing when changing from one account to the other. The big companies such as Nuance, MModal - all need to be realistic about making promises as far as pricing, turnover time, accuracy level, and refuse to send (fax) copies of reports that the MT is expected to look up and find and make sure it is the correct contact - since this is time consuming and the MT is not getting paid hourly and not to mention it is a major error if sent to the wrong facility and considered a HIPAA violation, etc, without just focusing on how many contracts they can get signed and make a fortune while the MTs are making practically nothing - and also too many "chiefs" and not enough MTs doing a great job and helping the company to make the big bucks. This does not necessarily mean a union or anything "threatening" to the MTSOs; however, what it would mean is organized in such a way that we are all on the "same page." We all want to do a great job and we want the income to go along with the expertise that we have and focus on what this is all about - quality patient care.
