Really? We are paid to decipher bad dictation? They are thinking "of a million things" that would not even occur to us, because why? Because we are too low on the scale of humanity? I feel the pain of the poor MTs who slave on your QA watch. Can you not understand that bad dictation is BAD MEDICINE? Because that's what it is, just plain bad medicine. Until physicians are truly held responsible for this aspect of patient care, until they are properly educated about how to dictate properly and safely, the patients will be wronged, the MTs will be wronged, and the doctors will just keep on heading out to the country club for another 9 holes of golf. The only true thing in your post is that we are "not even remotely on their mind." Big girl shoes? Get over it? Really? One day, it will be you, or your loved one, who is a patient with a medical record full of discrepancies, wrong meds and incorrect lab values. When that day comes, don't forget to wear your big girl shoes.
