what do we have to lose at this point... - MTStriker

...and we may not be at the same level now, but we certainly could have been. Some 24 years ago when I first started MT, it was actually as a Medical Language Specialist, and hospitals were preferring a CMT etc.

Perhaps it was a 'perfect storm' that caused our demise as a profession, as it does not seem there is just one cause for blame, but we could have been just as strong a long time ago...

Of course, if we look a bit deeper, I also remember managers throughout all different jobs who wanted to break unions way back in the early 90s, and not only break unions but break the spirit of employees - to change the trend of the employee having any benefits at all and tearing away at all the rights people fought so very hard for and suffered for, like child labor laws, etc.

It seems to have come to fruition, at least in my area, my age group, and from what I see and who I talk to. I heard a woman on CSPAN who said she and some 50 other ladies over age 50, could NOT get any kind of jobs whatsoever in her state, even after pooling resources together, and most all with college education. Not even service jobs...and she has been out of work for over 3 years I think she said...and was in the health field.
