More CMTs coming from off-shore - Not Happy

Posted: Dec 18, 2010

New CMT & RMT tests out, so off-shore will be teaching to the tests big time.  This is going on in our industry and others; but savvy big companies are awake and tweaking certification testing to catch the problem; not sure ADHI is sophisticated enough for that.  I am really NOT sure they WANT to address that issue.  Watch the flood of new CMTs from off-shore...and what it does to availability of our jobs.  (Yet there will be the related flood of money into ADHI.)  Are they going to sell us out?

Of COURSE they're going to sell us out. - (Thats what AHDI is all about!)

.

They already sold us out years ago when.. - MT lady

[ In Reply To ..]
they no longer required on-the-job training in medical records. Made it so easy to work as an MT and the supply went way past the demand. Same thing happened with college students....they funded so much college education...but not enough jobs for them. Made home loans too easy and now more supply than demand. You make anything too easy and it loses its value.

Seems like we could use an AHDI board for those - anon

inclined to this sort of thing. Or maybe a combined Offshore/AHDI Concerns would do nicely. The mood of so many posts is much the same, with I'm guessing lot of overlap in posters.
ahdi is a huge issue with us all, and it affects - all aspects of MT. We should
[ In Reply To ..]
be able to discuss it anywhere the subject comes up, which is basically, everywhere.
It's just that your outrage is so BIG it deserves its - its own board
[ In Reply To ..]
where those inclined can really analyze and discuss how this schmucky organization only wants our money, that they really only want our money, when they really only want our money, should they really only want our money, etc. You know, just more room for this terribly important topic.
Heh, yeah, it does get boring, doesn't it? - nm

AHDI test panders to the off-shore - Suck up to the off shores

[ In Reply To ..]
One of the old test questions deals with what is normal body temperature in Celsius, while Fahrenheit most common in US. BOS covers it, but why the question not in Fahrenheit?

Fahrenheit/Celsius/Metric System - Anonymous

[ In Reply To ..]
I work on site. Some of our providers use the metric system when they dictate numerical values, anyone working for an MTSO is going to encounter this and needs to know how to make the conversion. Candaa uses the metric system I don't see them as an offshore threat, although their MTs may sit for the exam. I am sure you encounter dictation on a daily basis where cm, cc and gm are referred to by American MDs. I don't see that as pandering to offshore MTs. The United States is the only country that couldn't/wouldn't learn the metric system and it has caused a lot of confusion. I'm a knitter and always have to convert meters to yards when purchasing yarn because it's manufactured for worldwide distribution and measured in meters. The question is asked in Celsius because it is something that everyone should know. The Amercian way is not the only way.
This is America. We speak English. We measure - length in inches & temp in Fahrenheit.
[ In Reply To ..]
Yes we do.... - Anonymous
[ In Reply To ..]
Because we thought we were better than everyone else and refused to convert to the metric system. Now, instead of conforming, some people are whining about not being treated fairly on a test that asks a simple question about converting Fahrenheit to Celsius. Like it or not, the days of being #1 for us are over, the rest of the world caught up.
America is in a steady state of decline. We'll - probably be 3rd-world within 20 years.

I don't think it'll take as long as 20 years; I'm betting on a year after the 2012 elections, the way things are going.
America is in decline because of the - Celsius scale?

like, think about it.
This is medicine. We use our heads. - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
You may not realize that many of the most prestigious medical institutions here in America use the metric system for vitals.

They do not do this because they are turncoats. They do this because they are scientists. Do you not realize that mmHg is metric?
Hmmm, you obviously havent met some of the - doctors I transcribe for. nm

Not Happy - Not Happy, Either

[ In Reply To ..]
All AHDI wants (and all its prior incarnation as the AAMT wanted) is to take your money. Period.

GOING to sell us out? They sold us out YEARS AGO - Bunch of self-important hypocrites.

[ In Reply To ..]
They have done NOTHING but undermine the MT profession to the point where we make less than an office receptionist. Thanks for nothing AHDI.

And as for trying to make Congress adopt your worthless piece of paper? Good luck with that one. Who made you the HIM experts in America? Just because you say you are doesn't make it so.

I totally agree! - Old and Tired MT

[ In Reply To ..]
Their ridiculous BOS is a prime example. Just because "they" say so, it is taken as gospel by the MTSOs. The biggest problem is,the "gospel" seems to change every year or so. If it is "gospel", it should stay the same. It is nothing but a planned obsolescence move to make more big money for them and the suckers always fall down and worship at their feet. I always wondered who died and left them in charge of transcription in the first place.

AHIMA did. They used to be in charge and they were horrible to MTs - Old Timer

[ In Reply To ..]
AHIMA had (has?) no respect for medical transcriptionists. Back in the days when they were in charge, we were treated like scum, similar but a little worse than we are treated by our own organization now.
AHIMA - Anonymous
[ In Reply To ..]
AHIMA is the American Health Information Management Association, and represent the coding and health information management profession, they used to be AMRA (American Medical Record Assocation). They have never represented transcriptionists, I think you have them confused with AAMT.
AHDI is most certainly not MY organization. - and they never will be! nm

What if they do someetimes care but don't how to fix what they broke - See message

[ In Reply To ..]
What if it was broken by earlier AAMT leaders and AHDI isn't smart enough to fix it? It may not be a matter of not wanting to do it. They may just not be smart enough.

Oh, they're smart enough. Believe me. Smart - enough to con the entire nation.

They SELL the tests - Jean

[ In Reply To ..]
From what I heard, they (AHDI) SELL the CMT crdential(do not know about RMTs)to the transcriptionists in India. I was told that by someone who owns a 170-transcriptionist small MTSO.

WMX CMTs-Will You Be Renewing Your CMT...sm
Dec 18, 2009

credential when it comes up for renewal?  They aggressively pushed this credential a few years ago and I got it (I felt pressured to), but I really hear nothing about wanting a credentialed work force from the company now. Due to the fact that our insurance has really been stink-o starting last year and this year's deductible is now $500 higher with no raise in 3+ years, I am seriously thinking about dropping it.  I was wondering if anyone else was going to do that ...

Question For CMTs
Sep 19, 2011

I am thinking about taking the test to become a CMT.  If you have done this, what references would you recommend that I have in front of me while taking the test?  Has anyone failed the test on their first try and if so, can you retake it without paying a second fee?  I have been an MT for a long time and should be able to pass the test but I'm worried they might fail you for little things.  What other suggestions can anyone offer?  I know there will be people ...

For Current (or Former) CMTs....Please.....need Advice
Aug 15, 2010

I know a lot of MTs don't feel getting credentialed is worthwhile for various reasons; however, I feel like my company is going to eventually require this of all their MTs.  Whether they are in cahoots with ADHI and it's all just a money-making scam or not I don't know. I can't worry about that.  I don't have anything against being required to be certified by the way--I just feel that if they are going to make this requirement there should be some reimbursement ...

Would Appreciate Some Help From Current CMTs To Help Me Decide
Apr 17, 2011

Does your employer offer a differential for being a CMT (Certified Medical Transcriptionist)?  I am on the fence as to whether to take the CMT test now or just wait until it becomes mandatory.  Would really appreciate some help from current CMTs to maybe sway me one way or the other.  Since I am currently looking for a new employer, this may be the perfect time for me to decide.  If I go the CMT route, then I would probably apply to companies that will pay me more for the C ...

Any MQ CMTs Out There With Thoughts On Testing? I Am Thinking About It.
May 26, 2010

All I see is the test costs $$.  I have been an MT for 5+ years and would probably pass.  How difficult is it to keep up with thier recredentialing requirements?  I don't have time to do extra "homework" for free.  If it is job-related, it should be on the clock IMO.   It is a little irritating that we have to keep being tested all the time with audits, etc., and now they are pushing us to be CMT.  If I am being pushed to meet extremely high standards, I ...

Oct 10, 2010
