new Nuance MLS actively seeking other employment - SlaveWages

Posted: Feb 14, 2015

I'm new here, and I see that you really can't make any money at this "company. There's no way I'm staying. There are other MT companies out there where I can do the same work for better pay. I'm also actively seeking in something other than MT, which I'd rather have.

I won't quit until I find another job, but when I do find it, I will drop Nuance like a hot potato and not look back. I only hope I have the grace to give them 2 weeks' notice.

why is the pay not better? - Nell

Why is the pay so low? I'm just starting a job with them soon. Can you make a living with them?

No, pay is NOT better - in fact

[ In Reply To ..]
it is really horrible!! If you are smart, look elsewhere. I am only here for another month and then quitting without any notice at all, as I'm sure many MLS are doing the same. They are stupid to not realize MLS are going to leave them hanging. This is by far the worst company I have EVER worked for. They lie all the time, we are making barely minimum wage and "big brother" is always watching, can hardly go to the bathroom. If I were you, I'd run fast!!!

pay cut from decent to borderline minimum wage - tella

[ In Reply To ..]
I'm on a team where the lines were halved and then given 10% back for a platform factor. My weekly production average went from 800 dollars to 300. That's right, 300 dollars. They said we had been overcompensated for some time. Obviously, the work is worth nothing to them. We've lost several people on my team who have resigned. There will be more to leave I'm sure.
Exactly!! - If you can
[ In Reply To ..]
work for $300 a week, then Nuance is for you. I'm fortunate to be able to quit and I hope many will follow suit!
The sad fact of the matter is that low pay is - the going rate
[ In Reply To ..]
If you think they are out of the norm, please let me know if you can find a job that pays better, or even as much, as this crummy company.

They are not out of the norm, they SET the norm, along with MModal, and the smaller MTSOs must follow suit to compete.

I know anyone who has found better will not divulge because they do NOT want a bunch of desperate MTs descending on their newfound decent patch of employment. Fair enough.

But those suggesting we all quit en masse is not practical. Many of us live in places where we cannot get a higher paying job anyway, and any such job outside the home would include high costs for commuting, work related clothes, etc., so we are stuck in this low income trap.
You are correct - they set the "norm".
[ In Reply To ..]
Nuance knows that some people live in rural areas where it is difficult to find work and that is exactly why the pay is so low! They do not care about anyone other than their fat paychecks. I was hoping to win the powerball, ha ha, and my plan was to contact as many MLS as I could and share the wealth, wouldn't that be awesome???? Oh well :(

I met a few "upper management" people at one point and they are so full of themselves it is sickening! Transcription used to be a great career but that certainly has changed. I would never recommend anyone to get into this line of work and of course never refer anyone to Nuance!

Was this at the dreaded six month mark? - or earlier than that?
[ In Reply To ..]
Meaning, the company I had been with before Nuance, making good money, gave us a 6-month "cushion" where they supplemented our income so we would have time to "transition."

They assured us by the six month mark we should certainly be "up to scratch." Well, we were always up to scratch, but when the cushion went away so did decent money and any hope of such.

It's a ploy they use to lull you into a sense of false security - this isn't so bad, it's almost the same, no worries.

Then Boom! No money and no hope of making decent money ever again, and on top of that the demeaning QA system and the sense they value us MTs not at all and in fact think we are very very stupid and suckers to boot.

Sadly, there is no recourse but quitting and again what else is out there right now? Very difficult to find anything even paying as much as this garbage pay.

Nuance stinks.
There is no cushion--sm - anon

There is a set hourly rate for training, that covers the time you are watching recorded training modules. After that you are on production pay.
Au contraire if you were - an acquired company
[ In Reply To ..]
I believe the poster tella would have been employed by an acquired entity that sounds quite decent, whereby all employed there were assured everything would be hunky dory despite the devil taking over your company, and usually the seller conspires with Nuance to intentionally take quite a long while (a few months anyway) before you are bumped down to the reality of Nuance because they do NOT want to frighten the horses and do not want anyone to get UE either.

That's what happened to me. I doubt very much whether Nuance as employer ever would have paid ANYONE $800 a week no matter what your platform or your production. They just do not do that. So my guess is they bought the company, then commenced to cut their pay down to what they wanted to pay once the "transition" period is over, and tough if you don't like it.

They find every way to cut our pay and nobody, no matter how good an MT you are, gets to make a decent income, that's their policy.

Employment Contract With Nuance
Mar 16, 2013

I was offered a position at Nuance and was surprised to get the employment agreement that states I will be an "at-will" employee and that I must apply again in one year as the employment agreement is only for one year.  I was shocked.  I have never heard of this.  I am middle-aged and have never heard of "at-will" employment.  I have also never had to reapply with a company after 1 year.  Are all Nuance employees given this type of employment agreement?    Th ...

At-will Employment
Aug 16, 2011

If your employment with an MTSO is "at will," doesn't that apply to BOTH you and them? The legal meaning of "at-will employment" is as follows: "A common-law rule that an employment contract of indefinite duration can be terminated by either the employer or the employee at any time for any reason; also known as terminable at will." So, given this legal rule, why are we deemed ineligible for rehire when we leave an MTSO without what they perceive as fair notice? ...

Has anyone else answered ads for them.  You do a really EASY test. They offer to train you for free..  then send you emails... basically to schedule a job interview.  You text them.  They send you this agreement, which says that in order to work for them you need to plunk out $450 to buy their software.. This does not quite seem on the level to me.. I have been working in this industry going on 20 years.  I work in house right now..  but job situation is precariou ...

Pre-employment Testing Sm

Employment Question
Nov 21, 2014

Fifteen years ago, I worked for a certain employer and was terminated after 4 months in a particular position. I recently applied to that same employer for the same job. While completing the application, one of the questions was if I had ever been an employee of theirs, and I chose no because it had been so long.
