I get kind of a kick out of reading this board - sm

Posted: Jan 07, 2014

because I keep thinking with as many unhappy, demoralized, uncaring, (I know they are all synonyms but they just fit so well!) MTs who don't give a crap about the work, the company or the quality that we are putting out and just trying to make a buck working out butts off, it can't be too long before these two monster companies go out of business and they have to bring our jobs back and that of course is what is going to really be SWEET!  They aren't going to be able to offshore it either, because the Indian MTs are just as miserable and vocal as we are if you read their boards (I have been).  Another warm fuzzy I get is that they will have a MAJOR shortage of MTs to choose from because we're either retiring or bailing and getting into another field.  I guess basically I just get the feeling that there is a coup in the air and I'm going to be able to see it.  Oh, and lest we forget, they will all realize their claims of voice recognition being 99% accurate is not possible.  Life is good....!

Good post. I hope you're right!! - nm

This post is off that board, I find it particularly interesting.

CMT wanted!
Though I clearly state in my CV/resume that the applications is for HMT AND NOT MT/QA or DU and I list the specialties I have experience in, yet I get test files in just all specialties with clear instructions that the employer is looking for > 98% quality. The readers of the resumes seem blind or weak in the language of English comprehension themselves. Focus MT, Bangalore goes a step further that if there are blanks then there would be half-mark deduction for each and also for punctuation. All want HMTs to be able to do the shittiest of dictations even in ancient codecs with good (+98%) quality and fast. So, while the demand is for DU the rate payable is for that of MT. All work is online though I prefer offline via FTP as the rate/line is just the same. I think they are all looking for CMT and not HMT. By the way CMT for me stands for Chutia Medical Transcribers. Nearly all want a "CMT" to work the graveyard shift, which they call as "late night shift". In winter times, in the north we have got heaters going on to work from home where the electricity rate is around Rs4/KW, and a couple of broadband service providers, all of which costs not mentioning the health hazards (like sleep apnea and long-term development of memory impairment) of working overnight, and these fellas do their own mathematics for selfish gains paying their miniscule daytime work rate. If they have people working the graveyard shift in their offices then they would have to pay a higher rate, night allowances and maybe dinner too and many mugs of coffee. These are the kind who are destroying the outsourcing to India of this very demanding profession. Anna bachao mere desh ko! Mere deshwasi hain corrupt to the roots.

Some of the posters seem to me to be recruiting companies out to make a fast buck at the cost of the "CMT" though they post as MT companies

kinda funny, the India board asks you to post your line rates when posting a job, hahahaha. Very interesting post, by the way.

Dislike - Anon2

[ In Reply To ..]
I disliked your post but I am not management; I just think your reasoning is a bit skewed. For one thing, you don't know how many MTs are actually posting here; it could be the same people over and over, it could even be non-MTs trying to stir the pot, the same goes for India; they were probably sold pie in the sky and then reality set in. Personally, I don't see any of the monster companies going out of business. When MT is no longer lucrative for them, they will move into other areas of clinical documentation such as coding. Some MT jobs may come back, but you need to ask yourself how long you are willing to wait for that to happen. Where I work, voice recognition is actually pretty good. Most of our providers use front-end speech rec and do their own editing. They have trained their own systems and are producing quality documents. They are not thrilled about it, but management speaks. Also, 2014 is the year of the mandated EMR. Facilities need to comply or lose millions in Medicare reimbursement. Transcriptionists do play a role in this but in other ways; people are needed to work in meaningful use and QA, those are the jobs that are going to be left. If you feel you must do traditional MT, you are going to have a long wait. Is this some kind of control issue for you? That is how it seems to me.

An electron microscope couldn't locate how much I care about - why you dislike my post. sm

It's my opinion, therefore I am entitled to express it. If you don't like it don't read my post.

Question - Anon2

[ In Reply To ..]
If you didn't care, why did you ask, "why the dislikes" and assume that everyone who disagrees with you must be management. I don't have x-ray vision. I can't know what's contained in your post until I open it.

Technology moves forward - Just me

[ In Reply To ..]
I'm not discussing the "like" or "dislike" factor here, just simply that technology will move forward. To believe technology will creep backwards is not realistic;if it was, then we'd be using manual typewriters by the light of an oil lamp.

The grand days of being a sought after transcriptionist in a clinic or hospital are gone (and I am equally sickened and disgusted by that). Also I am certainly not implicating that VR is a panacea (far from it as we all know) but it will progress and be better defined. If not, I know locally MDs are encouraged to utilize Dragon, templates, or just plain type their own reports.

With that said, I wish I was closer to retirement!

Thank you for the .IN link - Val

Felt So Much Better After Reading This Board
Jun 28, 2013

I felt like I was being picked on and I thought I was just paranoid but it's everybody so now I don't feel so bad.  I noticed the post-audits stopped when they got me out of bonus territory, too.  I got a full point mark-down for missing words on a post-audit for putting "Will get..." instead of "We will get..." and out of all the reports they post-audited only 1 was in my primary, the rest were all on accounts I'm not used to and the worst dictators.  I didn't ...
