1. You have the ability to send work directly to the client when the dictator is a bozo.

2. They hold sporadic incentive weekends ensuring that you will get a much needed break from work when the work gets wiped out.

3. You get the "best and newest technology" because MQ is a giant!

4. You get free membership to AHDI and free Benchmark, what great tools!

5. You get a huge amount of pride just knowing that you pay QA to correct your own work. No lack of responsibility here!

6. You get your own board on MT Stars!!!! :)

7. The ability to complain your heart away with full understanding from other employees!

I could just go on and on!

I don't work for MQ but your post is great, and probably apropos for most of the MTSOs. nm - Sims

When I start to feel like this job is just a big dead end, I think about the show Dirty Jobs. Then I feel a lot better about working here. There are tons of jobs out there that are a lot worse than this one. At least you're not a sewer inspector or spraying for cockroaches all day long or something like that.

can any employee tell me something good about MedQuist - Linda

I am new, inexperienced, and very slow in transcribing. I want so much to have a job where I can work from home. So, if you even have a job where you can work from home, that would be a great big plus in my opinion. And, if it is not what you really want, be thankful that you have the ability to do this type of work where you can always find another job.

every time the minimum wage goes up, you get a raise even when you get a pay cut

Your boss doesn't hound you and breathe down your neck.... - oops

Of course, most of the time you can't get them when you need them either!

I guess it's a 2-way street.

;)

I've always had good bosses here but - :)

[ In Reply To ..]
I have also had MANY bosses because they change them around every 6 months or so, but they have all been good. However, I am sure not everyone has been as fortunate in that area as I have been.

I had a couple of decent ones but when they - changed to this newest

[ In Reply To ..]
one we had a big meeting and the new CCM was just talked up big time, how wonderful this person was, how much other employees thought she was and it made the hair on my neck stand up. As it turns out, this is one of the worst bosses I have had. I miss my old boss!

Something good about MQ - Daisy

Pay check on time. I'm one of the lucky ones who has a good primary account and rarely runs out of work. I have a new manager and she's very nice. The downside of MQ is they penalize us for sending reports to QA by deducting from our pay on that particular report if it has more lines than 5% of our total line count for the week. They don't give raises, even though they may tell you they will. I guess if you call 1/20 of a cent a raise, then after 5 years with the company I got a raise!

Good about MedQuist - Starting MQ soon

[ In Reply To ..]
I am just getting ready to start at MedQuist coming from Transcend. If they do not call you on the phone and literally scream at you on a regular basis, about every other week it has to be an improvement. Elaine Boothby calls you up and brow beats you. I have over 20 years experience with degrees and certificates out the whazoo and she did nothing but call me and insult me. I want to get on, type my heart out and go home. Transcend you end up working 14 hours a day to get your line counts and then they put in a new system that does not count lines accurately so that you lose about $200 a paycheck. If you complain, you get put on a punishment account where you cannot even make $400 in 80-90 hours and you had best not put down overtime on your time sheet. If you stop to look a word up, you get penalized on your typing speed score. If you stop to double check the name of a doctor or facility, you get penalized on your score again and if your score falls too low, you get one of those wonderful phone calls. If they do not call and scream at you regularly, that has got to be an improvement.

Pay has always been on time, generally enough - sm

work but at times can be slow, PTO, occasional overtime and/or incentive. Some people have problems with their CCM but mine is very good and always asks us to call her with any questions, problems, etc. and she always responds in a timely manner - same for quality team lead. I'm not always positive about MQ - there are problems - but all the negativity on this board is something I try to ignore. Some people aren't happy unless they're complaining. Good luck and stay positive!

One thing positive... - steve

They aren't the only transcription company... yet.

Stay out of MTSTARS - anom

Don't read these boards. There is nothing but negativity and anger. Some of it is justified, but much of this is "lack of knowledge." A lot of assumptions. If you have a decent account, and a good CCM and QC, you should be successful. Hope you take this to heart, there are some happy MTs in this company.

Medquist Employee

Does anyone else work for Medquist? I have been working for them for 8 years now and am getting really fed up with their unrealistic policies!! I swear 85% of the executives for that company have never even transcribed one report including my own supervisor. They want to you to maintain 98% accuracy while following every single clients nit-picky policies and then having to translate about 85% of the transcription received from foreign doctors....while maintaining a 150 line per hour production b ...

MedQuist Employee Computer Use
Jun 08, 2010

I am a new hire with MQ and they sent me a computer to use.  How strict are they on the thing about being forbidden to use it for anything personal?  It says no personal email, chat, web surfing, etc; however, I had to shut down and pack up my personal computer because I had no space for both right now, so this makes things sort of a pain for me.  I'm on here now from the MQ computer, but I probably shouldn't be.  Do they have a way of keeping tabs on that? Thanks. ...

Is There Anything Good About MedQuist???
Aug 03, 2010

I have been sending and posting my résumé all over the place and yesterday got an e-mail from the recruiters at MedQuist. Everything i've seen about them is absolutely horrible, but I know too that when you leave a company you rarely have anything good to say about it. So, i'm just wondering if there are any pros to working with them, if it would be a step up for me maybe? Right now I have one year of experience, make 6 cpl and I make my own schedule. Any input would be a ...

2014 - Not A Good Year For This MT — But I Found A Good Fit (finally)
Jan 12, 2015

Rarely do I start discussion on mtstars - however, 2014 was a particularly challenging year for myself - an experienced MT/Editor (15+ years). However, I realize that many other MTs may be in the same position, i.e., having many years devoted to working at the Big MTSOs including “the M,†and “the N†and (now to be included) “the T†following close behind in total numbers of MT/Editors on staff. (Hint: Sure most of you know the M, the N and the T - and the names have been int ...

IC Vs. Employee

I have only had one long-term position as an employee for an MT company. Left to get some work out in the "real world" but am in a position to return to an at-home job. Possible That I May Be A MQ Employee Soon
Oct 20, 2011

Hi everyone,  It seems the hospital I am employed by may be outsourcing completely to mq. Rumor has it, if this happens then the 20 or so MTs will be going to MQ or not have a job. Can anyone tell me what I am looking at if that happens, trying to figure out if I should be looking for employment elsewhere.  here are my main questions:  1.  Is there a starting pay or is everyone paid differently? 2.  Is there a schedule or is it flexible? 3.  What kind of benefi ...

Which Is Better, Employee Or IC?
Dec 16, 2014

I am a part time employee of an MTSO. In California the min wage is $9/hr, which means at 0.85/line for editing my LPH must add up to $9, while MTs in other states may only have to make $7.50 or so to remain employed. My Team Leader said that is somewhat unfortunate for me; as a 1 year out-of-school newbie I'm not as fast as other MTs.  A few years ago I was an IC and I recall they did have a minimum line count per day but I don't recall having to produce more than ...

Statuatory Employee
Apr 27, 2010

Curious to know if anyone on this board is a statuatory employee with the company they are working for and outside of the company paying your SS tax and FWT, do you get any type of benefit, i.e., PTO, health, etc. Is it strictly just for tax purposes? IC Versus Employee
May 14, 2011

This post is not what you probably thought it was going to be.  I am not going to list the pros and cons of being an IC or am employee. It appears that MTSOs are "fudging" on these two classifications of workers to get the advantages. For example, as an IC you make your own hours.  There is no schedule; that is the nature of being an IC.  Yet these MTSOs want you to work a set schedule.  Another example:  You are hired as an employee.   Because you're an employee, you shoul ...
