New Employee - MQR

Posted: Sep 15, 2011

Just out of curiosity, does anyone ever post anything friendly, kind, useful, thankful, etc. regarding MedQuist? Iâm a new employee and due to a recent acquisition would be out of a job without their support. Before accepting the offer I researched the company quite a bitâ¦M*Model merger, DocQscribe, stock prices and company growth to name a few. All this enables me to say that Iâm employed by the #1 transcription company in the country and dang proud of itï

Oh my. - Old part-timer

I have been employed by the #1 transcription company in the country now for quite a few years and all I can say is stick around, they'll beat you down over time.

By the way, they're #1 because they're the biggest, not because they're the best, especially not in regard to how they treat their employees. If their product is the best, that's because of us, their hard-working, experienced transcriptionists, but don't expect to ever be rewarded in that regard.

I wish you the best of luck but fear it will not be long before you understand all the negative posts here. I used to think it was all just so negtaive, no job is prefect and then everything I read on here happened to me and the team I was on. Our company was also taken over by MQ and for the first 2 months, it was not bad and then it all started. I loved my job, had a great CCM and team and then MQ. It became so bad that I finally had to move on. What work they have for the US MTs is so horrible that it is impossible to make a decent living, and everyone is OOW more often than not while they are hiring new people and outsourcing work to smaller companies as well as global. It is just unreal. Why would any company hire and give work to smaller companies when they have MTs OOW on a daily basis ? As I said, I truly wish you the best but be prepared.

There truly is nothing good 2 say about MQ. - formerMQ

[ In Reply To ..]
I would love to be more positive for you, and I will say that 15 years ago MQ was a great place to work, but for the past five years they have become a nightmare of epic proportions. That is not an overstatement, sadly. I finally had enough last month after those 15 years and have never been happier to be gone from a company in my entire life. MedQuist truly is that bad. Sorry.

New Employee..better list to what you are being told from those of us who have/are still...with Medquist. I too am a long timer with them. I can no longer live with the pay cuts on reports because of other lazy employees. You are "punished" and take pay cuts for things you have no control over. I'm a tier 3, 12 year employee, and when I decided to figure out just what I WAS being paid compared to an hourly rate, I am working for Medquist for $8, 9 and sometimes 10 an hour. Listen to those of us who have been there, done that, and don't want to do it anymore. Find another company that pays by the HOUR and doesn't make you work 1/2 of every stinking weekend. Medquist used to be a good place to work. That is no longer the case. I also am seeking employment elsewhere. Hey Medquist....are you LISTENING?????

Just HOW is YOUR pay cuts due to "lazy employees"??? - Kiki

[ In Reply To ..]
Please enlighten me on this. The way I see it is the pay cuts are the result of GREEDY upper management. I agree that we are unfairly punished (for sending in more than 5% QA) but what has that got to do with lazy employees????

cuts not because of employees - North MT

[ In Reply To ..]
If you want to blame the pay cuts on someone, blame it on those "model" employees who sent through ASR reports for years without spellchecking or even listening to the audio to boost up their line counts to 600-700 (ah remember those motivational emails) and therefore corporate thought everyone who wasn't at 700 was slacking and cut our pay as a motivation to get us to work harder and then turned around and penalized for sending to QA. By the way, not everyone works half of every weekend either. Nothing in this job is even remotely fair.

Lazy employees? If they were that lazy they would not be able to make their production and should, in theory, be let go after performance management. Doesn't MQ realize what they have done to us. I just do not care anymore, they treat us like "sh**." I hope they fire me or lay me off, I am waiting. I have such an attitude lately. I would like to know if anyone else in mid to upper management took cuts.

[ In Reply To ..]
ok, everyone bear with me. I'm new at this site and I'm hoping this will post. OK, here is what was explained to me by my CCM (who is wonderful, by the way). Yes we are allowed a tiny % of reports to go to QA. "Some" MTs got "lazy" and as much as 30% (gasp)of "some" MTs reports were going to QA, so of course they got their production, but in turn, everyone, regardless of your % of QA reports, who sends a report to QA takes a pay cut on that report. Period. The ones doing this SHOULD HAVE been disciplined or let go, but no, MQ put us ALL under that new rule. Now I am not sure if this just pertains to my "work grouping", or if was work grouping-wide. I don't know. I only know I spend a great deal of time on a blank if I should have one, and when I exhaust myself, it's sent to QA...only for QA to send it back to me with that same blank..and I STILL take the pay cut on that report. I have bitterly complained to my CCM about this. As I said, when I decided to look at line count pay in comparison to what that came to hourly..I was shocked and totally pissed. I can make more money at McDonald's. I would be interested in knowing if other MQ MTs out there have had this report to QA pay cut imposed on them, or if my grouping is being singled out. I too will leave MQ as soon as I can, I won't mind emailing the top dogs my reasons.
Hi Mouse - Former MT
[ In Reply To ..]
Towards the end I could never figure out what my pay was going to be. I do know I sent VERY FEW reports to editing, as I had been on my account for over 10 years (pre Q buying Spheris.) However, I was getting real crap towards the end, and I did see a decrease in my pay (okay, I was getting an attitude too.) I left the Q back in Mid August. My CCM asked me to compose a letter of resignation, which politely, professionally explained exactly why I was leaving.... never heard a peep, so I guess don't waste your time unless it feels good just to write it. Never received a call for an exit interview (okay, I work outside the home now, but have caller ID and an answering machine.) However, all I got were a couple of letters.... the first one (a generic that didn't even address me personally) explaining how to return my equipment, and then a "letter of termination" (made it sound like THEY let me go, not me quitting so I could take another job and keep the bills paid.) I am sure they receive lots of letters stating why MTs are leaving... the bottom line, they don't give a crap. I honestly hope ( and pray) some day this all comes back and bites their greedy butts!!!

Hello former. Well your story sure sounds familiar. I won't gripe to my CCM, although I did, but in reality I know this crap isn't coming from her. I will email higher up. I don't care if it doesn't help those remaining, but as you said, I will feel better at least knowing they got my opinion. It's a shame it's always money that's the bottom line. I left a long-time MT position at an acute rehab hospital when HealthSouth took it over. What a cut-rate organization that was too. Maybe MQ and HealthSouth should merge..they seem both cut from the same cloth. Sigh.

PS: It's not hard to wonder that Mequist is eager to take in new people...they have to replace those of us who gave our best, and it wasn't good enough.

they pay on time - North MT

[ In Reply To ..]
In over 10 years my check has never been late. I have direct deposit. That is all the friendly, kind, thankful you are going to get from me.

Medquist values quantity over quality and no experience (cheaper labor) over experienced. Don't believe me? Look at the reports in the report look up. You may not be so dang proud to be associated with the reports coming from MTs who are penalized to ask for help. Number one in volume maybe or in employee dissatisfaction but certainly not #1 in client satisfaction or quality reports.

gotta love being paid - cm

[ In Reply To ..]
It's funny how when ppl on this board ask about the positive things about Medquist, the only thing some ppl can come up with is that they pay. That should be a given - that you get paid and shouldn't even be an issue.

paid on time is different than just being paid - North MT

[ In Reply To ..]
When I used to work in the clinic in town sometimes they would hold our check for a day or two or tell us not to cash it until the next day. There are many horror stories on this board of ICs for different companies not being paid at all or months late.

What I think is funny is that the Medquist ad on MTjobs used to state being paid on time as their positive and the reason a potential job seeker would work for them- because they couldn't come up with anything else without lying. Other companies post things like "We don't outsource" or "lots of work available." But no, Medquist posts "We Pay On Time."

You would be out of a job as a result of the recent acquisition BY MQ OF your former employer. Now, that is what I call S-U-P-P-O-R-T!

Welcome - Could be worse....

[ In Reply To ..]
Apart from being moved from CCM to CCM on a regular basis and lose of wages, I am not unhappy here. I am still happy to be able to work from home and am an IC. They will expect you to work a lot of weekend hours because there is "NJA" consistently.... Seriously though, I truly have been treated worse. I wish you well.

Could be worse - Wendi970

[ In Reply To ..]
Well, I HAVEN'T ever ever been treated worse, and I'm old. I am so completely delighted to finally tell MQ b'bye. It's not true that there are not better jobs out there and that we have no choice other than this grade D- company if we want to work out of our homes. I started with a different company this week and they are great. Smaller, but better benefits and pay is great. I hope MQ keeps gobbling up companies until they founder from overeating and collapse. I strongly urge any MTs who still love the career to run away from this place. P.S. Employed at MQ (was MRC until MQ gobbled them up)from 1997 until now.
congrats Wendi - Former MT
[ In Reply To ..]
Congrats on making a positive move and still being in the MT field. I miss being an MT, but figured if I was going to start over, I'd really start over. :-) Deep in my heart I wish I could someday return to this field, but I would live in constant fear of the Q gobbling up any company I went to, and knowing where that would lead, I don't think I could go through all that upheaval again and still hit the ground running!!! I wish you continued happiness and success. May you always have good dictators, and your fingers always fly... and the Q NEVER come calling!
Congrats - Wendi970
[ In Reply To ..]
Thank you so much for your well wishes!! I applaud you for taking the leap out of MT world! My next move will be the same as yours if the Q does come calling. I'm really weary of worrying about whether all med. transcription will be eaten up by the giant, or whether the new tech company they bought will simply replace us. You're brave and I hope if my new employer goes by the wayside I will be as fearless as you - I'm sure you feel like you found an open window with fresh air. Blessings and best to you!

I have positive to say - Thank you for your post

[ In Reply To ..]
If you want to hear anything positive about MQ, this is not the place to come. I think some of these people would not be happy no matter where they work.

I happen to be one of the so-called "lucky" ones and have good accounts, very good CCM with excellent communication, and the very rare times my accounts run out of work I have access to "helper" pools, which it seems a lot of people on here do not want to do unfamiliar accounts when they run out of work. To me, work is work and I have been at this long enough to be able to jump in where ever the work is.

MQ is the #1 MT company right now. After working at some of the other companies, MQ is the best in my opinion, not doing anything different than the other companies as far as offshoring, ASR, and pay rate, but they offer more tools to the MTs than most of the others, pay is always on time (cannot say that about some of the others), and there is more flexibility in choosing a schedule. You can find negative things about any company you work for, just have to weigh the good and bad and what works best for you, and move on if you are unhappy.

Thank you for your post.

and most of us will be moving on!!! Yay!!! - no message

One of the "lucky" ones? - SM

[ In Reply To ..]
Why put the word lucky in quotes? That's exactly what you are. Wait until things change for you. You'll get an understanding heart very quickly. What you don't seem to understand or believe is that we were "lucky" at one time, too. When the floor is ripped out from underneath you and you are faced with living on less than 1/2 what you had before due to garbage dictation, and when you lose every one of your accounts over and over again you might . . . just might get a grasp on what is going on.

Yes I did...I asked about that and also researched it. To the best of my knowledge the class action lawsuit was filed and MQ paid salaries owed to employees.

Which Is Better, Employee Or IC?
Dec 16, 2014

I am a part time employee of an MTSO. In California the min wage is $9/hr, which means at 0.85/line for editing my LPH must add up to $9, while MTs in other states may only have to make $7.50 or so to remain employed. My Team Leader said that is somewhat unfortunate for me; as a 1 year out-of-school newbie I'm not as fast as other MTs.  A few years ago I was an IC and I recall they did have a minimum line count per day but I don't recall having to produce more than ...

This post is not what you probably thought it was going to be.  I am not going to list the pros and cons of being an IC or am employee. For example, as an IC you make your own hours.  There is no schedule; that is the nature of being an IC.  Yet these MTSOs want you to work a set schedule.  Another example:  You are hired as an employee.   Because you're an employee, you shoul ...
