Does Anyone Work 16 hours/week - ea

Posted: Oct 31, 2014

I am PT now but cannot, due to medical reasons, work the 24 hours required.  I am waiting to see if I get disability and, if not, will have to fight with a lawyer to try to get it, in the meantime, I was wondering if anyone works only 16 hours per week, if so, did you need a doctor's note to request this.  I can get a doctfor's note with no problem, but Im afraid MM will just fire me instead and I dont want that to happen until I get disability.  Thanks for any information you can give me.  I appreciate it.

You can use FMLA to cover the hours. Get - dr to sign and fax to HR.

They don't have to be set hours that you're off. You will be covered for hours as needed. As long as it states you can still work some, you can work what you can and FMLA what you can't. Good luck!

16 hour work week - injured mmodler

I had a really bad year this year with the death of mother, daughter's high school graduation, son's enlisting in the Army and a really bad fall that destroyed my knee right knee. I've developed arthritis in every joint on the right side of my body. CIGNA has been awesome and the three supervisors I've had this past year have been very understanding and they have worked with me on this. The only real problem I've had is getting the paperwork from CIGNA in a timely manner, but other than that it's good. I went down to 20 hours and my goal is to work my way up to 30. I think they will work with you on whatever you need with the doctors note. Hope this helps.

FMLA - Rusty

MM's FMLA is handled through Cigna, and they work well with me on my issues. FMLA is federally mandated and you do not have to make up the time missed and cannot be fired for it. Be sure when your doc fills out your FMLA papers that he gives you the time off each week in order for it to equal the time you will need for PT status until you get SSDI. If you do not have those hours you will have to make up the time. Also, the papers are only good for 6 months and then before 6 months is up you have to refile for another 6 months. It is well worth the time. When your doc is give your paperwork, there is a deadline that the papers have to be to Cigna before that date, otherwise you will be denied. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the information nm - ea

Just another perspective - sm

Wouldn't it be easier to get disability if you prove you cannot work at all? I know people that have gone onto it, they had a long battle to get there and they seemed to be a physical mess. But what gets me is they can't work, yet now that they are on disability, they seem to be able to run around and do whatever they want. Not saying that is you, just saying. I live in pain myself, but I dont want to get in the disability thing as long as I can do something, because I think that rug is going to be pulled out from under most people at some point..Like they are going to start monitoring activities and you cross a line, your going to be called in to account for it..Just my perspective. Good luck in whatever you do, being in pain just plain stinks. There are days I sit here and cry it hurts so bad and others, well, believe it or no you get used to the pain. Been 17 years now since I got hurt and have been living like this.

Well..I Would Love To Work FT - ea

If you know of a way to bring in money so I do not end up on the street, while I wait for disability, without working, please tell me because I would love to quit so I can take care of myself better and deal with my pain, fatigue, malaise and other symptoms, but there is no alternative other than working PT until disability starts. I have paid into SS disability for 44 years, it is my right to apply for it when I need it. I have dealt with the symptoms of systemic lupus for 44 years while working and now am diagnosed with fibromyalgia, atrial fib, lumbar degenerative disk disease and CHF with EF of only 30% and at 63 the damage the lupus has done to my body plus all the other diseases, I cannot work anymore. SS monitoring me? Gladly, come monitor me, then they will approve me faster when they see what I go through each day. I have suggested to SS to send me to their doctors or physical therapists if they do not believe my internist, rheumatologist, cardiologist. You never get used to the pain, you learn to live with it, thankfully with the help of medications.
Like I said, not saying it is you - sm

The abusers of the system are screwing it all up, is all I said..Is there a short term disability that could bring in money? I have lived with the pain and the medications. I got used to a level of pain, which is why some days are worse than others. but try explaining that to a doctor, they took away my "real pain meds" because the state monitors them now. I have the fusions to prove I have been operated on and the broken fusios to prove that my spine is a mess, and I have never taken more than prescribed, yet I cant get narcotic pain meds..I live on Tyelonol, which Im sure is not good either. I am weathering the storm, I retire shortly..I wish you luck, was just saying it is not easy to get SSDI all the time. Have friends that fought it for years before they got it.

How Many Hours A Week For Courses?
Dec 20, 2011

Hi.  I'm wondering for those of you who either attend/attended M-Tec or Andrews, about how many hours per week do you spend on the classes (total, including all studying)?  M-Tec's website says 25-30 hours.  Do you find this to be accurate?  I did not see an answer on the Andrews website.  I want to be sure before I commit that I have the necessary time to spend on the course.  While I'm willing to put 30 hours in, I do not want to find out that in re ...

Does Anyone Work 18 Hours/week
Jan 24, 2015

Due to medical reasons, I now work 20 hours/week, but have to cut back to 18 hours/week.  I read in the policies/procedures it is okay if you have a doctors note.  I can get a doctors note Tuesday, but I was wondering if anyone is working 18 hours/week and if they gave you any grief or if you know of anyone being fired for requesting 18 hours/week.  Thank you for any information you can give me.   ...

Why Are Companies Stuck On Everyone Working 40 Hours A Week?
Mar 02, 2012

I've got great experience and when I'm scheduled to work, I'm there working.  What the hell difference does it make if I only want to be scheduled for 6 hours on four of my weekdays?  Would they rather I said I would work 8 hours and actually only work 6 like a lot of people?
