Don't you just love soft-spoken dictators who - incognito

speak very softy whilst dictating but then, without warning.......

Thanks, Bub.  I didn't need my tympanic membranes anymore since I am already headed into Oldladyville, and I have my eye on a fashionable rhinestone-studded ear horn.

I had an almost undecipherable ESL doc who would do that very thing. I didn't cry when he went to another hospital.

Oh, yes. Funny you should mention it. I was talking about this the other day with a friend. It's like your ears get used to him/her speaking softly then, BOOM, loud, then WAY SOFT. Okay, fine, but then it's hard to adjust the ears to his/her soft. It's like pick one!

One doc puts the receiver under his chin, sm - Sometimes happy MT

very muffled, lots of blanks. Has been told and shown how to do correctly. So puts the receiver under his chin and SPELLS the "hard" words so fast you still can't understand him. Just before he hangs up, the background noise is clear as a bell. Gotta laugh, otherwise I'd be bald!
I HATE that! - cr

It drives me crazy to hear a low, muffled voice, thinking there's something wrong with the volume, earphones or speakers, then BAM! - he puts the phone up to his mouth, blasting my eardrums. And of course, the rapid spelling! Especially when they "help" by giving a word with the letter rapid-fire - "S as in Sam, M as in Mary," etc., except it's all bunched together in one long, muffled sound.

Soft spoken - M

Yes! I love that, especially when you're straining to hear as best you can and then have to rip off the head-phone. Makes my entire week to get one of those!

I hear ya ladies. - IAMT

Have a couple dictators who continually must be reaching for something and keep dictating with their microphone or whatever in the same place while doing so, fade out a bit each inch their head moves, and then slowly get volume back to normal when they return to the correct positioning. I think a class in how to dictate and use the equipment correctly along with the log process including selecting the correct patient and visit during med school would be a great idea;-)

A new ESL dictating a DS. Can't speed him up because he's too "new" (to this country?). He is spelling every other word!!!!!! AND then spells it again - extubated, e-x-t-u-b-a-t-e-d, extubated e for elephant, x for crosses, t for tom, u for umbrella, b for .......... get the picture (sigh)? On top of that, the report is 28 minutes long!!! Should never have gotten out of bed this morning. LOL I do feel bad for him that he doesn't realize he doesn't have to spell every other ...

Dictators Who Love To Talk
Apr 07, 2013

Some dictators really like talking into that dictaphone and telling stories (literally novels) about their patients... but , the more these guys talk (blab, rather) - the more money I get! So, it's a doube-edged sword in this regard. The downside is that it's sooooooooo irritating and frustrating to keep typing as they go on and on and on and on and on and on until the cows come home! You wonder when the dictation will end! What do you guys think? Does anyone else get "story telling" ...

Lousy Dictators - Crappy, Hard To Understand Dictators, Both ESL And English-speaking
May 17, 2014

Today I will make less than half of what I normally get because all I've gotten today are crappy, hard to understand dictators, both ESL and English-speaking.  Seems like all I get lately are the hard to understand, mush-mouth dictators.  Guess Nuance doesn't want their MTs making quota.  Sorry.  I just had to vent. ...

Re: Soft Script
Dec 24, 2010

I am curious if anybody has had any experience with this company whether applying or working for them. I find it disturbing that the school I graduated from lists them as one of the possible employers to apply for work since they hire new grads. I applied a few days ago, and they said I didn't have the amount of experience they were looking for. I have 2 years experience doing family practice reports plus just graduated recently. I would have thought I qualified. This is so discouraging. I ...
