Nuance Transcription Company info? - Downandout

Our facility recently contracted with Nuance and all MT's were "offered" a position with Nuance. What should we expect? Has anyone worked for or currently working for this company?

Good luck is all I can say. This happened to me, terrible experience. I would dig ditches before I work for them again. They promised us big things, got there, sent out work out to India.

How long have you been with them? From info given, feeling like we will be making way less money and working more hours. Can you explain what a weighted line is?

They use a weighting system to calculate your line count based on what proportion of your total lines were straight typing versus lines generated through speech recognition. I think to get incentive pay you have to have a weighted line count of 220 lines per hour.

When Nuance took over the company I worked for they did away with the evening shift differential and weekend shift differential and cut the line rate by 20%. They QA your work DAILY and you have to review your quality reports and respond on a period basis (or you hear about it). I found the Nuance QA people way more picky than the ones that worked for the old company. For example, I never got nagged about comma placement like I did before they took over.

I guess working with them is better than getting laid off, although in the state where I live I think I would have been making more $$ on unemployment than with Nuance's pay structure.

Nuance is the greediest of any MT company I know of. They get US MTs to "teach" the speech engine, then send the work offshore. They go into hospitals, quote some ridiculously low price, hire the MTs for pennies, and then send the work offshore. Horrible, horrible company.

see if your facility will offer you a different job. mine did, thank God. from what i've heard from one of my ex-coworkers, she's not making any money with Nuance, there's never any work, and the work she does get is the hardest of the hard...meanwhile, she sees errors on the easiest of the easy, typed by others who are new to the account.

otherwise, go on unemployment and learn something new, like coding. every day i thank my lucky stars that i mentally checked out of the conference call with them, as soon as they said 8 cpl and couldn't really explain the whole incentive program. red flag for me.

Did Nuance come in selling any sort of an upgrade to your facility and then take over the transcription end of things? I'm curious because the hospital I work for has been in talks with Nuance for an upgrade in our system. They told us they have no plans as of yet to outsource, but now I'm getting a bit nervous. Can you please share your experiences???

Nuance has probably done more to destroy this industry than any other company. They build the VR engines and sold them by promising to "eliminate transcription". They when it didn't happen that way, they bought their own MT companies and sold the hospital on outsourcing at a ridiculously low rate. They use offshore a lot, especially once the US MTs train the speech. But the hospitals don't know that. They've done more to harm US MTs than any other MT company.

I have to admit, I wasn't familiar with what "Ambulatory" transcription would entail, so I went searching on the internet and came across this PDF. It is a stark reminder that Nuance is not a transcription company. I read the posts below on the difference between an IC and an employee.
