HELP! XP virtual machine in Windows 7. - Carrie

Posted: May 09, 2011

My computer crashed. I bought a new computer that has Windows 7. The hospital I work for uses a Cisco VPN client that will not work with Windows 7. I bought the Windows 7 professional upgrade and set up the XP virtual system. Now everything works except my foot pedal (Infinity IN-DVIUSB). It seems this it is not truly a USB device but is a HIB device. I am going crazy without a foot pedal. Has anyone else gone through this? Is there a pedal that works with XP virtual machine? I tried to set up virtualbox, but I do have have a disk of windows xp. Any thoughts would be great!! Thanks.

I also wasted money upgrading to W7 Professional and installing virtual XP, only to learn my Infinity foot pedal wouldn't work.

If you can get an installation disk for XP, VMWare Player will work for your foot pedal. I think earlier versions of Windows will work for the installation, too, but I'm not sure. I vaguely remember choosing which OS I wanted to use before the command to insert my OS CD. VMWare is much easier to install than Virtualbox.

I had the same thing happen to me. I used VMware player (free) and it asked me for a disk also, but I was able to use the Windows 7 Pro Upgrade as my version of Windows. I don't remember exactly what I did, but it wasn't hard. Pedal works on the virtual machine and I am up and working again. *Thanks KET*

Thanks. I tried VMware and I couldn't get my foot pedal to work there either. I get the error message "Host USB connections disabled- The connection to the VMware USB arbitration was unsecessful". I tried the fix for this, and it didn't solve the problem. I gave up and got one of my old dinosaur of a computers out. I will research and then experiment with the new one when I have regained some patience again!

Carrie, some suggestions to try.

Did you connect your foot pedal after you installed VMWare Player?

With VMWare virtual OS open, in the taskbar at the bottom of your screen, there should be icons listing what is installed, including one for the foot pedal. If you right click on it, there should be an option to connect it to the virtual OS.

Open VMWare Tools and see if foot pedal is listed. If it isn't listed, you need to try to install it again. I got a message saying new hardware detected with the install wizard.

Check device manager to see if the foot pedal is listed and what the status is.

Hopefully one of them will work.

Problem probably not with Win7 or Virtual XP - MTmidwest

I have Vista 64 with a virtual XP running. My computer is the problem, not the program. Your computer has to have a "hardware virtualization" feature available to the virtual XP to make any peripheral work with it. For example, in my virtual XP, my CD play works, the mouse works (but the roller on the mouse does not). Without that built into your computer no foot pedal will work with the virtual XP. Not that I'm aware of. There are little utilities online to download and run to check if your computer has this. If you do, it may not be enable and that could be an easy fix. Best of luck to you.

Use Virtual Box - Dana

Use Virtual Box. Works on Win7 64-bit and foot pedal with no problems. Use it for DocQscribe and Escription. Must have CD of XP or 32-bit or OS of choice to install. Otherwise, works perfectly!

Virtual Machine
Apr 26, 2012

Has anyone used a virtual machine? My PC turned out to have an incompable operating system, so they are sending a virtual machine. I understand I will only be using their virtual machine to do the transcription. I am wondering I can still use my PC to research online while working, since I will probably be using the Internet connection on the virtual machine, right? ...

Virtual Hug
May 19, 2015

Just gave my 2-week notice.  After working for this company for 18 years, first as full-time then dropping to part-time, I just can't do it anymore.  They took a job I absolutely loved doing and turned it into the most stressful, underpaid job I have ever had. I have read this board many, many times through the years and have laughed and cried.  This company is corporate greed at its best (worst?).  So, to all my "virtual friends" out there, thank you for listening ...

Virtual Scribes
Apr 02, 2014

I ran across a company offering virtual scribes. Their scribes sound like a cross between transcriptionist, coding, assistant. It is done over the internet. The company I ran across is Physicians Angels. I could not find any career page to check out possible positions/requirements, and I don't know if it is done by ILPs, although their office is in the states. Anyone heard of virtual scribes and know of other companies that do this? Always looking for a way to break away from ...

PAY FOR VIRTUAL SCRIBES
Jun 12, 2015

My question is this...if you were working as a virtual scribe (via hipaa compliant video) from home what would you expect the pay per patient to be? Not hourly, just per patient that you documented and turned in to your supervisor at end of day...keep in mind you'd probably be on video about 4 hours a day. I'm really interested to see the responses to this question. ...

Steno Machine And MTing
Oct 16, 2009

I have been using a steno machine to do this job since the year 2000.  I would have a difficult time returning to typing on a QWERTY board for MT'ing...way too slow and painful on the hands, etc.  On a good day on a familiar account, I can produce 250 lines an hour, no sweat.  I was trained in school to reach 225 words per minute, which I did back in 1992, to qualify to take the California state board exam.  I would encourage anyone to take the time and effort to learn s ...

The menu bars now are so small, I can barely read them, yet the font size is so large, the words run off the edge of the screen. I have spent most of my time off work trying to figure it out. Hey, I Read An Article Somewhere About Virtual Organizing For Union Purposes.
Jun 12, 2015

I read somewhere that the employees of Gawker, an on-line news medium, had organized and voted for a union. They did this completely virtually, over computers, thereby bypassing management's chance to try to stop the effort. I am wondering if we should do the same thing. I plan on doing a little more research on it. Wouldn't that frost Nuance's little cookies if we could do something like that?? ...

Windows 7 And Using Windows XP Mode
Aug 05, 2011

Has anyone ever wanted to work for a company that only used Windows XP and you had Windows 7 but could virtually move to XP mode?  Could you download their software on the XP mode side and get it to work?  I had a job interview where their software only worked on XP.  I thought I could do that, but I had to also have Word 2003.  I only have 2010, but it has the compatability pack for 2003, BUT the client's software couldn't differentiate that.  If I maybe bough ...

Anyone Use DQS On Windows 7 Yet?

I want to go to my parents house this weekend for Christmas and I have to work.  They live about 4 hours away so I was just going to take my foot pedal with me and download DQS on my dad's computer.  He is nerd so he has this really cool computer so I am not worried about DQS not running on it or anything.  I was just wondering about how DQS runs with windows 7.  I would figure it would just run the same since it is internet based.  I just would hate to not be able ...

Windows 7 -- 64-bit And 32-bit
Nov 22, 2010

Can maybe someone answer my question. I purchased a new computer last year with the new Windows 7 home premium operating system. For the Internet Explorer, I have two icons, one on my desktop that strictly says 64-bit, plus there is an IE icon at the bottom of my toolbar that uses 32-bit for some sites (I think because Adobe Flash Player is not compatible with 64-bit OS, is what I was told by an HP tech person).
