Nuance - what's the good news? - Oursourced

We got the news yesterday, offered jobs at Nuance doing our same doctors. I understand we have to clock in, and will now have to pay for insurance, internet not reimbursed, less pay, very large company. We work on Escription with small amount of straight typing. They say will transfer our seniority, etc. I have read on this board in the past that thngs may start out well but don't neccesarrily stay that way, things go downhill. I would love hear from someone who works there and likes it, as I know there are lots that don't from reading this board. Thanks. Thanks.

and I was too when I was in your position, very positive. Well, believe everything you hear on this board. If you are a new transcriptionist who has never had it any better, you will like Nuance. You are only going to hear good things from people new to the industry and don't know any better. Don't dismiss the negative comments on the board while you are trying to make an informed decision. These people are not lying, making up stories or otherwise.

Not new to the industry, have been doing this for many years, my current job is with a large teaching hospital (59 days left). I was hoping to hear from someone else who was has been "on-boarded" by Nuance, (that's what they call it) where the transcriptionists have been recruited after acquiring the hospital account. We even had a union, still lost our jobs.
I was where you are 2 years ago. I would say - you have about 1 SM

year before the really bad things start happening (at least this is what happened when we were bought out). You have some time to figure out if you want to stay with them or find something else. I wonder what you are being paid at your current job and how much of a hit you are going to take when Nuance takes over.

I was in your position exactly one year ago. No one from my hospital (big teaching) went with Nuance.. they either took severance (not great) or retired, or in my case, started to learn coding.. I love it. It is the next step up from transcription.. Now I can laugh at the Nuance documents I have to read at this hospital...
Nuance lied about everything - when we were bought out
[ In Reply To ..]
Their idea of "unlimited opportunities" was to learn how to make noodle 1001 ways to feed your family. We took a HUGE pay cut, which they lied about, as well. Nuance has their foot soldiers say whatever they have to keep enough people on the accts until the transition is through so they can keep the clients. It took me a long time to find another job. They pay crap and rig the bonus system to screw you over every way they can...speaking from experience. Very disorganized and everything that happens is the fault of the MTs. Run fast, run far... they are EVIL.
sounds to me that the account was outsourced - hospital MTs offered position. RIGHT?

I don't think anyone was 'bought out' here.

I worked at Nuance for a few months when they took over our contract. It was really awful really fast. We all absolutely loved our jobs until we went to Nuance. I know several who still work there. They're doing it because they have to, but not really happy. The good is that your paycheck is like clockwork. The bad for us was the pay and the way they counted lines. Our pay dropped in a huge way, like down to half of what we were used to making. If you take the job, I sincerely wish you luck. Maybe your experience will be better than ours was.

Sorry, no good news. Nuance took over my hospital job and our staff of about 65. I do not know one single person still there. Not one. I spoke to a friend that is still in med recs at my old hospital, and she said the docs are all in an uproar over the quality. If they had paid us old timers even a little above newbie pay, probably a lot of us would have stayed, but they did not offer those with 20-30 years of experience one crumb above what someone with 2 years was getting.
Nuance paid all of us who had been with the hospital a fraction of what we were making and cut our benefits significantly. Said our years of service would carry over, but that didn't mean a thing. Not sure why they bothered to even tell us that or make a big deal of it, because it did not translate to any kind of benefit for those of us with 20+ years. We were all brought on at the exact same rate and offered the exact same benefit package. All of us were given 5 PTO days off a year total. Some of us were earning weeks of PTO. That includes your holiday pay, BTW, and there are 6 holidays a year. Of course you have to work most if not all of those now (we rotated and worked some holidays, but not all of them), so I guess that doesn't matter, but hope you or your kids don't get sick or you want to take any days off whatsoever besides a 1 week vacation. I asked, you will never accrue any more. That is your PTO forever. At least this is what I was told when I asked about it.
The few good things, my TL was nice and basically left us alone to do our work. We kept our hospital account and it seemed to still have more than enough work for us.
Bottom line, at Nuance your are just a number. Doing the exact same job for a fraction of what you were. If there was any possibility of bettering your position with Nuance, I probably would have stayed, but when I asked, they said there was nothing else they could offer, so basically a totally dead end job.
I guess you will have to look at the job opportunities in your area and decide. If anything else is available, I would suggest taking it.

I make the weekly production bonus, meaning I make 0.825 -0.085 a line for week, mostly typing, but all lines count towards total. 10000 lines a week means 0.09 line, edited and typed added together.
I have 14 days PTO a year based on 5 plus with company, based on previous start date two companies back.
I am an odd ball. I love my job, I mean typing for these doctors. If I didn't I would change field.

Our hospital in Alaska was outsourced to Nuance in 2011. We, too, were told that we would get to keep our same docs, same hospital.... blah blah blah.....THEY LIED! I had my docs/hospital for about 2 months, then got switched to a CA account, then to a FL account. THEY LIE. I think working at McDonald's would be less stressful. I lasted a year then QUIT, no notice, no nothing. Am working in a clinic now and LOVING and makine WAY more than what Nuance could ever pay. RUN!

I gave a list of 40 doctors that I regularly worked for when we were bought out by Nuance. Right now I am not given even 1 of those doctors. Every week I get a whole new set of doctors to learn.

Nuance What's The Good News? Apr 12, 2013I really appreciate all the replies, good and bad. I guess the good new is we the displaced have time on our sides in that we have 58 days to make a decision about our future employment, I believe the union did get us that. I'm definitely going to look at other companies, possibly independent contractor positions. There are some leaving who have kids/families they are supporting, I am 59, only support myself so I have that at least. Appreciate MTStars board. ...

Possible Good News Mar 19, 2014I interviewed for a job at a local, major hospital. It was interesting to learn that the HIM department is in the process of bringing transcription back in house, at least partially. It was claimed that their transcription company was not doing a satisfactory job. This might be good news my MT friends. Maybe this will be a trend? I'm certainly hoping so and I mentioned how excited I was about the possibility of in-house transcription jobs being available in th ...
Any Good News For The Future Of MT? Dec 07, 2009I've been following the MT boards and what I mostly read are MTs complaining about losing jobs, lower pay scales, outsourcing, offshoring, voice recognition, electronic records, and other technology enhancements that seem to be putting MTs out of work. Is there any future for the MT profession? Is there any good news or is this profession going the way of the buggy whip? I would certainly like to read some good news about the future prospects of MT.
Thanks

Hopefully Good News For The MT World!! Mar 31, 2011So I was at a local clinic today that had switched over to a dropdown menu system and templates for their doctors a couple years ago and had laid off their transcriptionists and the doctor was just typing away in his template and of course I had to mention how as a medical transcriptionist this really bothered me. He told me that many of the doctors there were unhappy with the new system and had gone back to dictating and that they were more than likely going to be hiring transcriptionists ...
Good News For M-Modalers Apr 01, 2013If you received an E-mail from your TCM this weekend about how you are expected to be logged in for your entire shift every single day, no more, no less, print out that e-mail right away and save it! Do not delay!
Be sure to log into your time sheet on time and be sure you log in your 8 hours (or whatever your shift is) and also stay logged on your network whether there is work or not, and get a print out from the network at the end of the workday to document that you were logged in the enti ...
Keystrokes - Any Good News On Them? May 07, 2013I've actually worked for them in the past, horrible experience with my team lead - who sucked, and my account, which was an overflow account - which they didn't tell me when they hired me. So needless to say, I sat most of the time without work. So I didn't last long there, as we obviously need work to make money. I'm looking for an employee position, as I'm sick of owing taxes as an IC. Do they have straight typing there or is it mostly VR?   ...
Good News! Smartype Is Back! Feb 18, 2012I'm so happy there is a new version of Smartype that has been released. It now works with newer versions of Word, i.e. Word 2007 and 2010 and works with other software including Outlook. It's even better than the original. I was using the old version of Smartype even though it had glitches when working with Word 2003. You can try it before you buy it, a definite plus. I highly recommend downloading this software. Nuance...good Or Bad To Work For? Jul 12, 2011Hi -
I am looking for recent and current info on Nuance. I have heard good things about them and bad, but want to hear from someone who currently works there. Do they make you stick to a certain schedule or are they flexible? How is QA? Do the account managers or team leads have multiple accounts to oversee or just 1 or 2? How is their communication? Are they friendly enough that one could possible enjoy their job again?
Thanks in advance for any information ...
