New Patient Safety Compensation - sickened

Posted: Nov 29, 2014

"Simple, transparent."  What in God's name is simple about this?  You need a calculus degree to even begin, not to mention there are NO numbers stated, and they send it on a Saturday when nobody is around to voice your concerns to.  VERY exciting Nuance.

Confusion is the goal so we don't really know what our LPH rate is now. - Just another way to cut pay.

[ In Reply To ..]
Every paycheck will be different amounts now and if it's lower than the previous check it will be all our fault so get on that Enrich, you incompetent MT, and figure out what is wrong with you, then you will make more money!!

Unreal.

I voiced my concerns in a not so nice email. I will be job hunting starting tomorrow.

New pay - sam

What makes me sick is how they always talk about how "exciting" new changes are coming and it's going to be a great change! Obviously, they think we're dumb. Actually, Nuance we do have brains. You can't tell us something is great, then not expect us to be able to see that it's not. So typical, talking out of both sides of your mouth.

nuance - tiredofbeingscrewed

It probably won't do any good, but maybe we should start keeping track of the reports that we send to QC where the issue is out of our control. I am currently in a report where the dictator is on a speakerphone. Can we say swiss cheese? Yup. For the most part, I cannot control how many reports I send to QC and that should not be held against me.

Who is the one who contributes to the bottom line? - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
For the transcription segment of Nuance, it is the MT. Everyone else on staff, including the director of operations who sent out this email is an EXPENSE to the company because they are not generating revenue. It is the MT and MT alone who does. Yet,who is the one who is getting the proverbial finger? The MT,as usual. What better way to "cut" expenses and add to the bottom line? Is it to eliminate the dead wood that produces no revenue? No,it is to come up with a scheme to pay the MT less and less, thereby improving Nuance's bottom line.

Believe me,Nuance has a plan B when mass numbers of MTs leave once they find out the impact to their already depressed wages that cannot even support them now. There is a plan B.

I laughed out loud when I read they will continue to offer a minimum wage guarantee. THEY DON'T HAVE ANY CHOICE. Oh,how good Nuance is to us.

The other thing that is disturbing is that even the shift you work factors into this. What? Someone explain this one, please. Is it to ensure we all work at night?

Their first lie is transparency in the email. They don't say it,but we will no longer be paid a standard cpl. This is how far down the rabbit hole transcription has sunk.

I am going to assure you that someone is saying in the hierarchy that the MTs won't have any choice, not many jobs out there now,so they will swallow all of this hook, line, and sinker. What choice do they have? Once we do,the sky's the limit with Nuance. Soon,we will be paying them to work for them.

Is this the new pay plan...sm - Anon

[ In Reply To ..]
people have been anxiously awaiting? I don't work for Nuance, but I've been anxious to find out what it is too. Can someone give the basic details. Thanks

pay plan - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
Not at Nuance anymore, but a friend said there is a warning at the bottom and she fears for her job if she reprints the details? Does that tell you anything,if they were so pleased and these are "exciting" changes for the MT they would be singing it from the rooftops!!!

Exactly! And it certainly would be much clearer. Sadly - they are purposly being vague

[ In Reply To ..]
because it is a negative change to the MT. Personally it sounds to me they're trying to hide the fact the base pay will be minimum wage and then everything else over will be at the hands of offshore QA. Why else would they make minimum wage sound like some kind of 'gift' and not clearly explain what the base pay will be?

Lovely - our pay is in QA's hands now. - subjective. nm

QA Fiesa reversals. . do we get that money back? - convoluted mess.

[ In Reply To ..]

Why we only have 5 days to complete - Probably

[ In Reply To ..]
Good question, but that's probably why they put in place this new method of requesting reversals and limiting it to 5 days!

I am a new hire - MT

[ In Reply To ..]
I just was hired. No one told me about this (recruiter, TSM). I took the job because I depended on a certain CPL. Now I see no concrete CPL. I am going to voice my concern to the recruiter. Seems to me my offer letter is not being honored. I have yet to start the job. If they are not honoring my offer letter, then does that mean I am free to go... I am sure you all understand my situation. Why would I take a job which the pay was changed before I even began... oh there goes my bills and rent (forget Christmas).

In legalese, they may honor it for a time, but then - watch out.

[ In Reply To ..]
Their MO for the last 3 years has been to screw us and give us a PAY CUT around Christmas. It's their way of saying: Merry ______ Christmas. Keep working like foolish slaves so we can keep our fancy homes and pricey cars and go on lavish vacations, while you, seemingly intelligent people, keep plugging away for peanuts.

I agree - MT

[ In Reply To ..]
I am going to think about not even starting. I have a short time to decide. It seems dishonest to give an offer letter and then switch. If I did not live up to my end of the bargain I am sure they would be crabbing immediately. Money is nothing to fool with. If a person fools with it, soon the house is gone, the car, and homeless. I don't play that.
And remember, this is not unusual. - It is how Nuance operates
[ In Reply To ..]
on all levels. Something to think about before taking the job.

I will give it 1 pay period. sm - mt2

[ In Reply To ..]
If I make less than I'm making now, I'm gone. And since they took their sweet time putting out this info, I'll take my sweet time letting them I'm not working anymore.

Entirely subjective. - nn

[ In Reply To ..]
In regard to our pay rates which supposedly will be based on platform, shift, weekend/weekday, our quality scores, % of reports sent to QC, and difficulty of dictator, who decides which dictators are difficult and by what criteria? Totally, totally subjective.

And BTW, the reports pended for stuff other than blanks, like the dictator makes a copy request to someone you can't find, didn't provide a DOS, etc. Are those counted as part of your pending percentage? And how is any of that "under my control?" It isn't.

However, I will reserve judgment until I see the first pay stub.

conflicting information - CMT

[ In Reply To ..]
Same thing for conflicting information in a report. They dictate right arm twice, then left arm...Or if they give an obvious incorrect vital sign or date within the report. So unfair, but I have to give it to them they are definitely pros at ways to be the worst employer I have ever seen.

Is There Anyone Who Was Not Negatively Impacted By The Patient Safety Compensation Plan?
Apr 02, 2015

My understanding is that the earnings of Nuance employees in the transcription division were negatively impacted by the initiation of the patient safety compensation plan.   If the original incarnation of the patient safety compensation plan caused an increase in earnings for your specific team, it was quickly amended to not only negate that change, but to also result in a decrease in earnings by 30-70%.  Is that correct across the board?  Is there anyone who did not receive ...

BS "Patient Safety Compensation Plan"
Jan 20, 2015

I have never hated a company as much as I do Nuance!  They should have called it the "Screw the employee compensation plan" because that is just what it is.  I feel like I work in a third world country and get paid 1 or 2 cents a line - that's probably next!  Last paycheck even though I had 99 percent QA and 2 percent QC, I figured it out I made about $9.00 per hour.  I'm sick of this and can pretty much go anywhere for this kind of money.  Can you say CORPORAT ...

"Conduit For Patient Care And Safety"
May 23, 2015

"CAN'T-duit" for patient care and safety is more like it.  The only way we "CAN-duit" is to be able to take the time to produce an accurate and timely documentation of a patient's story and have a compensation plan that is attainable.  Instead we are pressured to produce more for less.  Sorry guys.... not buying it. "Happy" MT Week???   Nope..... not EVEN.  ...

"Patient Safety Index"
Apr 11, 2015

Hey, has anyone noticed a category called "Patient Safety Index" on your "performance scorecard?" Once a week I get a performance scorecard from my TSM. This patient safety index is based on the amount of errors you are marked down for. So if you have 4 post-audits, and one is marked down for something, your "patient safety index" will be 75% (with the minimum standard being 90%). It apparently goes by percentage of reports. So that means that under the Quality 2.0 plan (which she keeps sa ...

What Really Kills Me About "patient Safety"
May 19, 2015

This whole absurd "patient safety" compensation plan is suppose to be based on just that, patient safety......Then why after QA (not QC) audits a report and they find errors and especially ones such as wrong medications/labs that actually do affect patient safety....they don't change it.  If you look at reports that have been audited they still show all the "errors" that they charged us with.  They are not calling the client and saying "hey we messed up, this needs changed".   ...

"Patient Safety" - HAH!
Jun 20, 2015

So I didn't catch when VR put in the date with the year 2014 instead of 2015.  Is this really a critical error?  Apparently TSM says ALL number errors are critical.   So if this is true, and it's so critical, why then, when I asked why the error still appears in the report and why hasn't anyone CHANGED it....she just said, "we can't make changes once the report goes to the client."  WTH?  So I get points off and possibly my pay is going to be reduced ...

Compensation - For Transcenders
Dec 16, 2012

As you transition to Nuance, you will have training jobs going to QC.  This will count against your QC percentage and affect your ability to earn any increased increment in line rate based on your quality.  Please plan ahead carefully for a much lower paycheck and look for another job as hard as you can.  Advise all would-be MTs to look into coding or some other profession entirely.  MTs are living at poverty levels these days and we have to get the word out.  With VR ca ...

MT Compensation By MModal.
Jan 04, 2013

http://mmodal2.wordpress.com/2010/07/23/mt-compensation/ Please remember this – your company is paid for its OUTPUT, not for that high percent gain! This industry has seen an alarming increase in MTs who are not interested in transcription as a full-time career. What is happening to the career MT? How will the profession attract the quality-minded, dedicated professional if MTs can’t make any money? It won’t – it will attract the person interested in making a bit of ex ...

Here's A Article About Compensation
Mar 11, 2013

Here’s an article by For the Record magazine that is worth reading. Sometimes, their articles are a lot of fluff, AHDI stressing we need them, or words just filling a page, but this one affirms what we have all known for a very long time.   http://www.fortherecordmag.com/archives/091012p22.shtml Interesting what is written about the Transcend lawsuit too. What can we do? At the end of the article, it mentions “MTs need to work with their employers to develop a fair compensat ...

Compensation Question
Sep 21, 2013

I work from home for a small hospital. I pull up the patient's account and place the reports into it. Most of my doctors are so great and give me the account number or patient information. However, I have one doctor who is bad about not giving me any information to find the account. I spend more time trying to find his patient's accounts than actually transcribing his reports. I am wondering how I can ask for compensation for this. I make .15 cents per 65 characters. Does anyone make e ...

Nuance CEO Compensation...
May 05, 2014

Saw this today. Apparently CEO of Nuance, Paul Ricci, made around $29 million last year. Makes me sick that when I was there I was barely making minimum wage after being an MT for 15 years. The article talks about how he was compensated too much even though stocks were dropping. I think the more important point is how the MTs have been treated. THAT never reaches the article of course.    http://www.bostonglobe.com/business/2014/04/28/nuance-ceo-paul-ricci-tops-pay-among-massachusett ...

Wages And Compensation
Aug 07, 2014

I came into this field long after the precedent was set on pay.  I knew coming into this that the average wage ran from 6 cpl to 10 cpl, with most jobs hovering around 7 to 8 cpl.  What I didn't account for was that in more than 10 or 15 years, we'd still be at that rate.  Not only has our wage not gone up in over a decade, even with cost of living increases, but that when they came out with speech recognition, someone thought, "Well, it's doing half the work, so y ...
