"Patient Safety Index" - Tired

Posted: Apr 11, 2015

Hey, has anyone noticed a category called "Patient Safety Index" on your "performance scorecard?" Once a week I get a performance scorecard from my TSM. This patient safety index is based on the amount of errors you are marked down for. So if you have 4 post-audits, and one is marked down for something, your "patient safety index" will be 75% (with the minimum standard being 90%). It apparently goes by percentage of reports. So that means that under the Quality 2.0 plan (which she keeps saying we will be "moving to"), it means that any errors you make will be counted against you TWICE -- once when you are marked down for the error, and again on this "Patient Safety Index." Don't be surprised if they come out with a new pay grid to take advantage of being able to count any errors against you TWICE and lower your pay that much more. If they do that, I am out of here.

seems that I remember this - Mrs.Buns

from way back last year, that N was setting up FIESA to calculate quality in other, different ways -- but for the time being they weren't going to use it on any official basis. Wasn't it a Pass/Fail system of some sort? My TSM doesn't send out scorecards much, and I don't remember her ever including this statistic in any of her emails. Hopefully N won't begin using it anytime soon!

New Patient Safety Compensation
Nov 29, 2014

"Simple, transparent."  What in God's name is simple about this?  You need a calculus degree to even begin, not to mention there are NO numbers stated, and they send it on a Saturday when nobody is around to voice your concerns to.  VERY exciting Nuance. ...

Is There Anyone Who Was Not Negatively Impacted By The Patient Safety Compensation Plan?
Apr 02, 2015

My understanding is that the earnings of Nuance employees in the transcription division were negatively impacted by the initiation of the patient safety compensation plan.   If the original incarnation of the patient safety compensation plan caused an increase in earnings for your specific team, it was quickly amended to not only negate that change, but to also result in a decrease in earnings by 30-70%.  Is that correct across the board?  Is there anyone who did not receive ...

BS "Patient Safety Compensation Plan"
Jan 20, 2015

I have never hated a company as much as I do Nuance!  They should have called it the "Screw the employee compensation plan" because that is just what it is.  I feel like I work in a third world country and get paid 1 or 2 cents a line - that's probably next!  Last paycheck even though I had 99 percent QA and 2 percent QC, I figured it out I made about $9.00 per hour.  I'm sick of this and can pretty much go anywhere for this kind of money.  Can you say CORPORAT ...

"Conduit For Patient Care And Safety"
May 23, 2015

"CAN'T-duit" for patient care and safety is more like it.  The only way we "CAN-duit" is to be able to take the time to produce an accurate and timely documentation of a patient's story and have a compensation plan that is attainable.  Instead we are pressured to produce more for less.  Sorry guys.... not buying it. "Happy" MT Week???   Nope..... not EVEN.  ...

What Really Kills Me About "patient Safety"
May 19, 2015

This whole absurd "patient safety" compensation plan is suppose to be based on just that, patient safety......Then why after QA (not QC) audits a report and they find errors and especially ones such as wrong medications/labs that actually do affect patient safety....they don't change it.  If you look at reports that have been audited they still show all the "errors" that they charged us with.  They are not calling the client and saying "hey we messed up, this needs changed".   ...

"Patient Safety" - HAH!
Jun 20, 2015

So I didn't catch when VR put in the date with the year 2014 instead of 2015.  Is this really a critical error?  Apparently TSM says ALL number errors are critical.   So if this is true, and it's so critical, why then, when I asked why the error still appears in the report and why hasn't anyone CHANGED it....she just said, "we can't make changes once the report goes to the client."  WTH?  So I get points off and possibly my pay is going to be reduced ...

Medical Phrase Index?
Jan 26, 2010

Hi.  I was lurking around here and saw where someone mentioned mentioned  the Medical Phrase Index.  I looked it up online and it's kind of pricey.  Question:  Is it worth it?  Would you recommend it?  I do psych transcription, which is where the majority of my experience lies.  However, with psych hospitals, etc., I also have to do some general med notes and Internal Medicine notes, etc., and also want to broaden my experience . . . so would this be ...

I Have A Sore Finger! The Skin On My Index Finger Was Dry And Split And Now It Hurts When I Type!
Oct 13, 2009

Any suggestions?  It's really annoying makes typing difficult and I definitely cannot type with a band-aid on my finger.  I'm one of those finicky MTs who takes forever to find a comfortable height of my chair, distance from the keyboard, height of my monitor, etc.  And absolutely nothing on my wrists and hands!  No rings, watches, bracelets, band-aids! I was considering putting super glue in the split, but then chickened out. ...

New Quality Index Vs Old Quality Score
Oct 18, 2014

I ran an error report for all reports, all accounts on my platform for this quarter, 10/1 - 10/18. So far the Quality Index is 84% vs Quality Score 99.18%.  Didn't they advertise this new error scoring as working out in our favor?  Doesn't look like it to me. This is based on 2194 jobs and 105,358 lines audited on E5.  I checked the box that says view all corrections on the correction report. ...

Patient Is A What?
Aug 05, 2012

I swear to all that is holy, this is what this less-than-stellar PA just dictated:   "The patient IS a high-risk gestational trophoblastic disease..."  I went back and listened thinking I must have heard wrong and she said patient HAS ... Nope.  She said IS.  This is the same PA who dictated a creatinine of 92 for someone.   That sound you hear is me hitting my head on the desk. ...
