To classify medical transcriptionists (or medical language specialists or whatever we're called today) as word processors or typists is a travesty. Our knowledge so exceeds that of someone who is a word processor or a typist. Why won't anyone listen to us and respect us anymore? For those of us who love this job and don't have the ability to do anything else or work outside of the home is a real stinking shame! Would a march on Washington, DC, do any good?

I saw that so as to include all bulk typing period. why list legal, medical, general, - police transcripts, television, business, etc.

It's all of us 'specialized' keytappers. Add up and average all those salaries and you get a higher average than what we really see, as well.

sometimes you have to see outside the box. people outside don't zero in on us like we do.

YOU are the ones lumping yourselves in with that group, not them.

That article, or whatever it was, didn't say one word about medical transcription. And, MT is not and has never been classified as word processing or typing.

If you want to know why you aren't respected, just look at what you call yourselves. Count how often you say "typing" on this board.

Seriously though, it's scary to think that many of the jobs on that list (except embalmer, of course!) were things I have either applied for (and failed to get), or thought I could do with some more training.

So many other jobs are on the chopping block, as well. Even radiologists are seeing their work being automated and offshored.

I recently read a British news article about the dire predictions worldwide about what will happen to them and other countries (USA being the scary example) if their Middle Class isn't kept employed, in order to be able to purchase goods in that country, pay taxes, and fuel the infrastructure.

Is there is quick way to add commas between items in a list? Of course, using Ctl K in front a word will change the punctuation, but it will also change a capitalized drug to lower case, and you will still have to get to the beginning of the next drug which will require 2 Ctl arrows and backspace. Ctl arrow takes you to the beginning of the next word, but you will have to backspace to put in the comma. Adding punctuation to lists is so time consuming! ...

their work go on Epic had a little bit of work left for them or nothing at all. I guess I am just obsessing about this because I am going through it now. I have posted before but just feel better when people that have worked with Epic can explain what I can expect or not expect. I personally know someone who works as a middle manager for Nuance, makes well over 50,000 and has had constant raises since being hired. From what she tells me she is very effective, but even the other middle managers who are not at all effective with huge make up costs and teams who fail audits constantly do not get terminated.
