I'm not 100% sure, but whether you are "fired" or "laid off" you can collect Unemployment. BOTH go under termination. I could never understand some saying that MModal doesn't want to let people go because they'll have to pay Unemployment. WE have put into our own unemployment benefits. Look on paycheck. We, the employed, have all put into it over the years. AND I really, really don't think you'll have to "fight for it." I was waiting for a correct phone number to put down on the application (just got it this morning...was "let go...terminated" Thursday) and I truly don't anticipate a problem. I probably won't collect much but, hey, I didn't make much. My husband was "let go" in January (and thank God found a job recently) and he said it was so easy to apply online, no fuss. You re-apply every 2 weeks and he said you just click answers to their questions, etc. very easy. No one ever called. No one ever gave him a hard time. They even were going to give him an extension but he had already found work. We live in Jersey. Perhaps other states are different? Have no fear. You were working, now you are not working, it was not your choice, it was theirs, so you will collect!

As stated I live in NJ and we are 1 of 3 states where employees pay an unemployment tax (among a slew of others). Been paying into it for about 40 years now, so don't feel one bit bad about filing since I probably won't get back what I put in anyway. Good to check the facts first. Thanks again!

Nice's whole premise is that Rory pays for UE and Rory should therefore be eligible.
Not until the end of her post does Nice clarify that she, herself, is in NJ.

On top of that, as a New Jersian, you are not guaranteed unemployment benefits just because you pay into it, another false premise on Nice's part.

Excerpt: Even though you may have enough earnings to qualify for a claim,
there are circumstances that may prevent you from receiving

whether unemployment insurance benefits are payable. Some of these
areas include: whether you are able to work and looking for work;
whether you are receiving severance pay, pension payments, etc.
However, the main area that must be explored is the reason that you
are out of work. You must be separated from your employment through
no fault of your own.

My "premise" was not that Rory paid into UE and therefore is eligible. I was trying to emphasize that she, like I, was "let go." We did not quit. We were laid off, through no fault of our own. We did nothing wrong, therefore WE ARE ELIGIBLE. THAT was the "premise." Do yourself a favor and stop assuming you know what everyone's thinking. You were wrong about my "premise" and you were wrong about the fact that NJ employees pay unemployment taxes. How arrogant you are.

hi all, i'm from PA....just wasn't meeting productivity, although i had good quality....i've got my resume updated...going to apply for unemployment and see what happens...never was in this situation before so i guess there is always a 1st....

I didn't think you could be any more wrong than before... but you are.

Taking a cheap shot at Jersey people shows you aint got much and are grasping at straws in order to prove somehow that you are right. And getting nitpicky with Nice who obviously was recently laid off and is going through a hard time is... well... I can't say the word I wanna use here.

PA will now decide whether or not to grant UE to Rory based on the reason for termination. With the round of recent layoffs, it was quite easy to assume that Rory was part of that as opposed to not meeting productivity. Whatever their decision, maybe you can call PA DOL and tell 'em they're wrong too.

Rory: Good luck to you. I've been through 2 layoffs in the last few years. It gets better.

My QA score has always run about 12% (SS requires 8% or less to QA) since i started. My trainer told me I had a very difficult account and not to worry.
