Tier pay at M*Modal - alic
Posted: Dec 15, 2012
What determines tier 3 pay at .09 versus .10 per line for transcribing and .05 versus .06 for ASR?
How does one advance to higher pay within grade 3 tier at M*M?
I think you would have to ask for a raise - nothing determines levels

I was a buy-out, and made a lot more than MModal pays, so I am at the top, but this was still a cut in pay.
I think others either were bought out but at a lower pay, or were hired lower than the top.
There is no rhyme or reason as to what they do around here.
You could ask for a raise, but I would not hold my breath.

for one, you would have to ask for a raise. I am tier 3 and when I started, I started out at 4 cpl editing and 9 straight typing.
I asked for a raise based on the fact that I was tier 3 and just could not make any money at 4 cpl since the bulk of my work was editing. They then raised me to 5 cpl. Well again, since I was only doing mainly editing, I asked for another raise a few months later and they gave me 6 cpl and told me no more raises. They never raised my straight typing rate, just my editing rate, but I was content with that since I mostly do editing anyway.
A friend of mine is also tier 3 and she makes 5 cpl editing and 10 cpl straight typing.
As far as getting a raise goes, the first time was pretty easy, but the second time I had to jump through hoops. I guess it depends on the situation. They also will look at your years of experience, length of time with company, quality of work etc.
My friend who makes 10 cpl for straight typing has been doing this longer than me so, I am guessing thats the reason why she makes 10 cpl for straight typing and I only make 9.
Not doing MT anymore, but - See msg

In the "good old days" I was making 10.6 for straight typing, and there was no ASR.
I went into their QA Dept, back when it meant something, and was making $20/hour. I was a happy girl, but then they started the NJA crud where even QA people had no work and we had to use our vacation time. Back then, there was no transcribing plus QA work. If QA ran out, that was it, couldn't type.
When I heard about all the changes, the restructuring to MME stuff and all, I got the heck out of MQ, went to a smaller place, where they paid my 9 for straight typing 6 for ASR editing. They went mostly ASR after a year or so, then that place got acquired by MQ/MM, whatever, and I got slammed back into MQ/MM.
Put up with their nonsense for 8 months, then left MT all together.
In the "good old days" I was a home-based transcriptionist for - a hospital making $16 an hour plus

incentive, which put me right around $20 per hour. I had the same luxuries of working from home only with good hourly pay and awsome incentive.
Never knew or cared much about MTSOs until we were outsourced. Now those were the "good old days."
I believe the OP's question was about tier pay and how to get a raise, not - the good old days. NM
So you strictly have to stay with - what the OP posts?

I don't think so. What's wrong with reminiscing? Happy Christmas, Scrooge!
I dont like hearing bout old days, ++ yrs experience. Not relevant - for today. Talk how we can SM

increase our cpl now, how we can improve our situation now. How great it was back them has nothing to do with today. So what, who cares?
Excuse me, didnt know this was YOUR forum - and we could only talk
[ In Reply To ..]
what YOU like to talk about. So you go first, how can we increase our cpl and our situation now?????
I just said what I didnt like. Didnt say anything about what others - could or could not post. nm

Those of us who put in the time, sweat and dedication to our profession to build this industry care. WE aren't relevant to those who make all the big money off our effort. With a little luck, YOU will one day find yourself IRRELEVANT too and wonder why no one cares.
They are the ones who are helping ruin this profession by accepting crappy low line rates because THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT WE USED TO GET PAID.
That's why they don't want us to talk about the old days...... because it makes them feel crappy working for minimum wage in a profession that used to be worth a damn.
I am far from a new MT, but why dwell in the past? Those days - are gone forever. Move on. nm
I took the Tier 3 test and passed. I don't know what my actual score was, but I have a phone interview later this week, and I was wanting to get an idea of what to expect as far as working at M*Modal. I know they used to be MQ and I know there are many, MANY disgruntled current and former employees. Honestly, all I'm looking for in a company these days is regular, on-time paychecks, the average rate per line (0.08 or better), and steady work. I'm okay with ...
Hello All,
Trying to find a list of types of jobs done by the diffient tier levels. Anyone have a list such as this or know where I can find one?
TIA (thanks in advance)

You can call yourself an MT and work for:
1. A single provider nonspecialist.
2. A multiprovider/multispeciality clinic.
3. A primary hospital.
4. A secondary hospital.
5. A TERTIARY hospital.
You can do "ops" with any of these jobs. However, at a tertiary hospital you will have patients who have failed treatment at primary and secondary hospitals. Tertiary hospitals are teaching and research institutions where you will encounter research p ...
I was just informed that I HAD to tier up. Has anybody else been told that one? I don't want to tier up. I don't get much NJA and I like the accounts I work on. I was told that I MIGHT get a raise if I did, but there was no guarantee. Why would I want to tier up without getting a raise doing the next tier's work? I just don't get it and I never will. ...
Do you type ALL work types, including tier 1 and tier 2, correct? My CCM implied that tier 3 does ONLY operative reports?? I'm tier 2 and I think I would like to try OP reports, as I've been tier 2 for quite a while. Don't want to NOT do consults and H&Ps though. Not expecting a raise of course, but would just like to try something different. And maybe get NJA less often. What do you all think?
If you do type all, what pe ...
This really sucks because those reports have the highest line counts, while Tier 3 does all the testing reports such as cardiology, eeg, cath reports, and surgeries.
While straight typing pay may be higher for Tier 3, everyone makes the same for VR.
My vent for the day. Sorry if I offended anyone. ...
Hi everyone. I am interested in tiering up to Tier 3. I understand there are practice tests and/or information I can read about tiering up. I can't figure out where to find it. Anyone know anything about this? Thanks in advance. :) ...
What might be happening is MM is keeping high producing Tier 3 employees and India will get all the easier work. Tier 3's in America will do the hardest dictations and worst dictators. The MME's in America will then be correcting more work because India will be doing everything else. Just trying to figure out what is going on.
Also, I think MM had to do something about the no work situation, either get more accounts or layoffs. They decided layoffs.
Than ...
I thought they were 2 different services. Everyone is buying out everyone, so who knows. All the small companies have been merged I guess. I thought Nuance was out of New York and were the primary with VR. Maybe one has to keep up with the changes and be a member and pay the dues and go to the meetings with AAMT and be a CMT to keep up with the changes, even though you still get 4 cents. ...
I hit the ceiling last week and quit after 12 years with MQ part-time. I started as a tier 3 and ended as a tier 3. Topped out. I was making close to $20/hr and ended at $10/hr thanks to ASR. My submission rate was apparently too high for them for Jan and Feb. Well, what do they expect? Shyte dictation equals shyte transcription, but I'll be damned if I am going to risk someone's life just to fill in a blank, and this was before they rolled out this "First ...
I work for another MTSO too that doesn't have the tier system. I get just whatever report comes into my job pool from clinic to ops. I've been at MQ for about 3 years now. CCM keeps wanting me to tier up to tier 3 so I can start doing the ops notes because we don't have enough 3s right now. However, I won't get a raise by tiering up. To me the only incentive to tier up would be more money.
After I told CCM that I wouldn ...
I despise even doing it at all but I want out of this place and I think having it will help my chances of finding a different job. Do you have to be Tier 3 or is that not even a consideration to ADHI?
On that note, are there any Tier 2's here who have their CMT? Do you actually get that so-called extra incentive at MQ for being one? I know some other companies offer an incentive. ...
Anyone have advice about taking the Tier 3 test? I know taking it won't mean much at MQ but it will mean something to me and I want to give it a try. The woman that gave me information about it said it can go into the next day. Does it really take that long? I work 2 jobs and am trying to figure out when to take it. The instructions for the test sound more difficult than the test itself. ...
Has anyone taken the tier 3 test for MQ or M*Modal, whatever we are called today? I am currently taking it and having trouble with 1 of the op reports! ...
Please, someone let us know what the details of the the 6-tier bonus are. Also, for those who have been part of a Nuance buyout, how soon until their pay scale and bonus goes into effect? ...
Hello:
Can anyone tell me if there is a pay scale for each tier on the MModal MQCentral page? I cannot find anything.
I am interested in having some concrete evidence when I ask for a raise as I am a Tier III being paid at a Tier I level according to what I read on a previous post.
Thanks in advance!! ...
Has anybody ever passed the tier 2 test?? This is my second attempt at passing it and it seems impossible. You can't slow the transcription. You can't understand the words before and after the privacy tones. It's like they don't want you to pass, succeed, and reach a higher level. My regular work reports are easier to do than anything on that test, even the ESL doctors! ...
Just wondering if it is worth it to test up to tier 3 or not. I wouldn't mind getting more in my work pool (especially as things have been a bit slim lately with the holidays), but had heard there was no pay increase for moving up a tier, plus was worried that I'd have to spend more time in research for the first while getting used to the new work, hence slow production down. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance! ...
Hey everyone, I am in the process of applying for a home based MT position, but i am wondering what the difference is between Tier 2 & 3. Thanks so much for any assistance you all can offer! ...
This job has served me well for the purpose I intended. I was able to stay home with my kids while they were growing up and supplement the household income. Now, after being with this company since 1994, I don't want to tier up or become an MME. I just want to do my job and then forget about it. I am at the point now where I really want to retire as we don't need a supplemental income any longer. I see all these new "opportunities" at MM and I just don't care to ...
If you're 3rd tier and work fulltime (or meet the 1200/lines/day criteria), can somebody tell me what a person can expect per paycheck (if you're paid twice a month)? ...
