What might be happening is MM is keeping high producing Tier 3 employees and India will get all the easier work. Tier 3's in America will do the hardest dictations and worst dictators. The MME's in America will then be correcting more work because India will be doing everything else. Just trying to figure out what is going on.

Also, I think MM had to do something about the no work situation, either get more accounts or layoffs. They decided layoffs.

Thank goodness there are other companies out there for the people who were laid off.

Some people said they were offered a severance package, and some people said they were offered nothing. How does that work exactly?

All their PTO that they have saved up (if anyone does that anymore). I've been with MM (Medquist) for over 15 years and in all the mass layoffs I've seen through the years (there have been many), I've never once known them to give a severance.

Companies that offer "severances" when they lay a worker off usually do so because:

1. They *value* that employee's service or,
2. As a courtesy.

Neither one of those apply with this company - never have.

I've known people fired from managerial positions who were not offered severance; do you think they are going to offer it to MTs?

got laid off they would probably get severance (golden parachute). Lowly MTs would just have to go beg in the streets.

One poster did mention getting severance. I believe it was the one who's - deleted all her posts now.

She confirmed it when I asked her about it, but as somebody mentioned above in terms of accumulated PTO, maybe she was mistaken. But she did definitely say that she was told she would get "severance."

they quoted her a dollar amount and were sending her an overnight Fedex, so I don't think she was mistaken. I guess only applies to full time people.

I was just informed that I HAD to tier up. Has anybody else been told that one? I don't want to tier up. I don't get much NJA and I like the accounts I work on. Do you type ALL work types, including tier 1 and tier 2, correct? My CCM implied that tier 3 does ONLY operative reports?? I'm tier 2 and I think I would like to try OP reports, as I've been tier 2 for quite a while. Don't want to NOT do consults and H&Ps though. This really sucks because those reports have the highest line counts, while Tier 3 does all the testing reports such as cardiology, eeg, cath reports, and surgeries. While straight typing pay may be higher for Tier 3, everyone makes the same for VR. My vent for the day. Sorry if I offended anyone. ...

I hit the ceiling last week and quit after 12 years with MQ part-time. I started as a tier 3 and ended as a tier 3. Topped out. I was making close to $20/hr and ended at $10/hr thanks to ASR. I work for another MTSO too that doesn't have the tier system. I get just whatever report comes into my job pool from clinic to ops. I've been at MQ for about 3 years now. CCM keeps wanting me to tier up to tier 3 so I can start doing the ops notes because we don't have enough 3s right now. However, I won't get a raise by tiering up. I took the Tier 3 test and passed. Has anybody ever passed the tier 2 test?? This is my second attempt at passing it and it seems impossible. You can't slow the transcription. You can't understand the words before and after the privacy tones. It's like they don't want you to pass, succeed, and reach a higher level. My regular work reports are easier to do than anything on that test, even the ESL doctors! ...

Just wondering if it is worth it to test up to tier 3 or not.
