Going up to tier 3...worth it or no? - Tink

Just wondering if it is worth it to test up to tier 3 or not. I wouldn't mind getting more in my work pool (especially as things have been a bit slim lately with the holidays), but had heard there was no pay increase for moving up a tier, plus was worried that I'd have to spend more time in research for the first while getting used to the new work, hence slow production down. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!

The kind of work types you are allowed to do is based on your tier. This is just the most basic explanation: I forget what work types are for tier 1, but tier 2 adds additional work types to the tier 1 ones, including some procedure work types like cardiac caths, etc. Tier 3 includes all of the work types, including op reports.

They made me tier 3 after six months with the company. That was a decade ago (oh how time flies when you're having fun). You make one cent more for Tier 3 than Tier 2 both on straight typing and ASR. Of course, for ASR at least, 20% more of nothing is still nothing, but perhaps you're better at ASR than me (you couldn't be worse).

So, really, it all depends on how good you are at the more difficult reports. There's always a chance that the increased difficulty will cut into your production enough that you make the same or a little less, but now you have more stress. Personally, if I were tier 2, I think I would stay put. That's just me though.

I appreciate your feedback! I've been there almost as long as you now =) I can type as fast as edit and have mostly editing, so my pay has gone down. I was kind of shocked when I checked my last stub and saw that my 2012 earnings were about $2500 less than 2011 =( My line counts on the weekly statistics are all well above the average, so I figured I was doing at least decently this past year. Guess I was wrong! I was just trying to figure out a good way to make a bit more given the current BoB I'm in.

information. I was just thinking about doing the same thing (tier 2 to 3), but thinking about the added stress and honestly tier 2 does everything tier 3 does except OP reports. If I was guaranteed to go up 0.01, I would do it, but the last time I tiered up they gave me 3%, which is better than nothing, but it would have been nice to be put somewhere in the middle and the thoughts of extra audits would just stress me more than I already am now with being out of work constantly and trying to figure out how to make up the hours. I think I am one of those people who likes to fly under the radar. Well this post just made up my mind. Thanks again for the input.

What with the easy stuff sent to India and whatever Tier 1 MTs get (and I'm NOT putting down any level), you will be getting the worst doctors, doing all report types. It isn't worth it.

I was always Tier 3 and used to get nothing but op reports, but that was in the distant past. Way distant.

I have posted on this many times but the tier test system for Mmodal is a joke. Either they will find an excuse to fail you on your audit, they will lose the results, never send you the test or the TSM will tell you there is no need for Tier 3 in her BOB because all the op notes went to India. If you eventually do pass you will just be eligible for a raise, not actually get one and we all know that Mmodal is stingier than the Grinch when it comes to raises.

Do you type ALL work types, including tier 1 and tier 2, correct? My CCM implied that tier 3 does ONLY operative reports?? I'm tier 2 and I think I would like to try OP reports, as I've been tier 2 for quite a while. Don't want to NOT do consults and H&Ps though. This really sucks because those reports have the highest line counts, while Tier 3 does all the testing reports such as cardiology, eeg, cath reports, and surgeries. While straight typing pay may be higher for Tier 3, everyone makes the same for VR. My vent for the day. Sorry if I offended anyone. ...

What might be happening is MM is keeping high producing Tier 3 employees and India will get all the easier work. Tier 3's in America will do the hardest dictations and worst dictators. The MME's in America will then be correcting more work because India will be doing everything else. Just trying to figure out what is going on. I hit the ceiling last week and quit after 12 years with MQ part-time. I started as a tier 3 and ended as a tier 3. Topped out. I was making close to $20/hr and ended at $10/hr thanks to ASR. I work for another MTSO too that doesn't have the tier system. I get just whatever report comes into my job pool from clinic to ops. I've been at MQ for about 3 years now. Has anybody ever passed the tier 2 test?? This is my second attempt at passing it and it seems impossible. You can't slow the transcription. You can't understand the words before and after the privacy tones. It's like they don't want you to pass, succeed, and reach a higher level.
