tier up - sm

Posted: Oct 15, 2009

I was just informed that I HAD to tier up.  Has anybody else been told that one?  I don't want to tier up.  I don't get much NJA and I like the accounts I work on.  I was told that I MIGHT get a raise if I did, but there was no guarantee.  Why would I want to tier up without getting a raise doing the next tier's work?  I just don't get it and I never will.

Focus on the word MIGHT, means don't count on it. - SM

if your pay now is in the range for the next tier, there will be no raise.

I wouldn't do it unless I had a guarantee - Worker Bee

of more $$. If you tier up to a tier 3, they'll force you to be an MME - and then you'll really lose money.

never told that but - :)

I asked about 5 months ago the first time and never heard back and then 3 months ago and just now my CCM responded that she will look into me testing up... so crossing fingers! Good luck! I am sure if you dont want to tier up they can move you. They can't fire you over it because then they would have to pay unemployment.

Curious, do they want you to tier up from 1 to 2 or 2 to 3? - kiki

if you gain the experience at a higher tier here it will make you more marketable to find a job that does pay more for that experience. Use MQ for the experience and then quit when you find a better job. Why limit yourself, go for it. Cool

Jazz took the words right out of my mouth. Why WOULDN'T you want to learn more? The clinic jobs are going overseas and to ASR. I know, only crud is going to be left at MQ, but there are other places that would give all the tea in China for a good acute care MT and they don't treat their employees like crud. I had 3 offers when I decided to leave MQ. They were only looking for acute care MTs at the time and it pays more per line than clinic.

If I were a newbie, I would definitely tier up just for the experience alone regardless of a raise.

However, with over 25 years of hospital and specialty experience under my belt, tiering up without a raise would just be giving away that experience to MQ for free. I don't like that idea at all!!! How often do they give away anything of real value for free?

I just think my experience should afford me a guaranteed raise with tiering up. Maybe I'm wrong for thinking that way.

I guess I could always intentionally fail the tier test, and then at least I'll not be bothered to tier up again for 3 months.

I guess 25 years of specialty work would make it hard to want to learn something new, so I guess you are stuck unless you can find another company with a need for your kind of experience that pays better than MQ. Good luck.

If I honestly thought I'd learn something, then I'd do it. However, according to CCM, the increased work would be nothing new to me.

I already QA at the local hospital. MQ is just my extra income job for family vacations and such.

CCM is supposedly working on it. I guess I'll just have to wait and see.

My (formerly known as) supervisor tiered me up to III soon after I was hired. Being unaware of the evil Medquist ways back then, I thought that was actually a good thing. Next thing I know I'm being streamed much harder work, work that I had no experience with, really bad dictators, and since there was no pay raise involved, I actually made less money because it took me longer to do each report. It essentially just made my job very unpleasant and cut my pay. If I could go back to being tier I I would do it in a minute. There is no benefit whatsoever in being classified tier III or tier II. If you can fight it, fight it. I would love to be "demoted" to a tier I or even II.

OPS, Tier II Vs. Tier III: Let Me Break This Down For You...
Jan 28, 2010

You can call yourself an MT and work for: 1.  A single provider nonspecialist. 2.  A multiprovider/multispeciality clinic. 3.  A primary hospital. 4.  A secondary hospital. 5.  A TERTIARY hospital.   You can do "ops" with any of these jobs.  However, at a tertiary hospital you will have patients who have failed treatment at primary and secondary hospitals.  Tertiary hospitals are teaching and research institutions where you will encounter research p ...

Do you type ALL work types, including tier 1 and tier 2, correct?  My CCM implied that tier 3 does ONLY operative reports?? I'm tier 2 and I think I would like to try OP reports, as I've been tier 2 for quite a while.  Don't want to NOT do consults and H&Ps though.  Not expecting a raise of course, but would just like to try something different.  And maybe get NJA less often.   What do you all think?     If you do type all, what pe ...

Tier 1 And 2 Get All The H&Ps
Mar 03, 2012

This really sucks because those reports have the highest line counts, while Tier 3 does all the testing reports such as cardiology, eeg, cath reports, and surgeries. While straight typing pay may be higher for Tier 3, everyone makes the same for VR. My vent for the day. Sorry if I offended anyone. ...

Tier 3
Apr 06, 2013

What might be  happening is MM is keeping high producing Tier 3 employees and India will get all the easier work.  Tier 3's in America will do the hardest dictations and worst dictators.  The MME's in America will then be correcting more work because India will be doing everything else.  Just trying to figure out what is going on. Also, I think MM had to do something about the no work situation, either get more accounts or layoffs.  They decided layoffs. Than ...

Just How Many Tier 3s ARE Left?
Mar 02, 2010

I hit the ceiling last week and quit after 12 years with MQ part-time. I started as a tier 3 and ended as a tier 3.  Topped out.  I was making close to $20/hr and ended at $10/hr thanks to ASR.  My submission rate was apparently too high for them for Jan and Feb.  Well, what do they expect?  Shyte dictation equals shyte transcription, but I'll be damned if I am going to risk someone's life just to fill in a blank, and this was before they rolled out this "First ...

Tier Question
Apr 14, 2010

I work for another MTSO too that doesn't have the tier system.  I get just whatever report comes into my job pool from clinic to ops.  I've been at MQ for about 3 years now.  CCM keeps wanting me to tier up to tier 3 so I can start doing the ops notes because we don't have enough 3s right now.  However, I won't get a raise by tiering up.  To me the only incentive to tier up would be more money.  After I told CCM that I wouldn ...

Do You Have To Be A Tier 3 To Take The CMT Exam?
Aug 10, 2010

I despise even doing it at all but I want out of this place and I think having it will help my chances of finding a different job.  Do you have to be Tier 3 or is that not even a consideration to ADHI?  On that note, are there any Tier 2's here who have their CMT?  Do you actually get that so-called extra incentive at MQ for being one?  I know some other companies offer an incentive. ...

Tier 3 Test
Nov 21, 2011

Anyone have advice about taking the Tier 3 test?  I know taking it won't mean much at MQ but it will mean something to me and I want to give it a try.  The woman that gave me information about it said it can go into the next day.  Does it really take that long?  I work 2 jobs and am trying to figure out when to take it.  The instructions for the test sound more difficult than the test itself. ...

Has anybody ever passed the tier 2 test?? This is my second attempt at passing it and it seems impossible. You can't slow the transcription. Going Up To Tier 3...worth It Or No?
Jan 03, 2013

Just wondering if it is worth it to test up to tier 3 or not.  I wouldn't mind getting more in my work pool (especially as things have been a bit slim lately with the holidays), but had heard there was no pay increase for moving up a tier, plus was worried that I'd have to spend more time in research for the first while getting used to the new work, hence slow production down.  Any thoughts?  Thanks in advance! ...
