What is the difference between Tier 2 & 3? - Katie

Posted: Feb 02, 2013

Hey everyone, I am in the process of applying for a home based MT position, but i am wondering what the difference is between Tier 2 & 3. Thanks so much for any assistance you all can offer! Laughing

If you have been doing this a long time apply to be a tier 3. - I think the only difference is..

[ In Reply To ..]
tier 3s usually have been doing this a really long time and can type all work types; however, from what I hear some tier 2s get all work types and some tier 2s have also been doing this just as long.

Tier 3s are suppose to make more, but I dont know because I have read posts on here where people who have been here a while who are tier 3 make less than me.

I am a tier 3. I make the max for editing, which I think is 6 cpl (could be 6.5) but I make 6 and I make 9 for straight typing. Some tier 3s make 10 for straight typing and 5 for editing.

Pay is all over the place at MModal and varies from one person to the next. Also I think everyone is starting out at 4cpl now regardless of tier level. Not sure, but I was told you could ask for a raise after you have been here a certain period of time.

I'm an MME and make less - Pay all over the place

[ In Reply To ..]
I agree that pay is definitely not consistent here. I was hired as a tier 3 7 years ago at 7 cpl straight typing. I now make 8/4.8 as an MME, which if the OP doesn't know, is a tier 3 MT/ME and QA rolled into one with 4 cpl for 100% QA and 3 cpl for filling in blanks. Like many MMEs, I bring home less than what I did as a regular MT.

Oh, you can ask for a raise all you want - anon

I'm an MME and supposedly at the top of my career game. I've been here 14 years and have only had ONE raise and that was 7 years ago. MM doesn't give raises. EVER.

Raise - anony

[ In Reply To ..]
been with this company for over 17 years and have had 1 raise for which I had to jump through a lot of hoops. Taken a lot of pay cuts, however. I was told by many past supervisors if you want to make more money, TYPE FASTER. Nice, huh?
The other option is to work the shift differential - no raise either
[ In Reply To ..]
There are a few options that your TSM will tell you to make more money. Obviously type faster is one of them. One is to change your schedule to take advantage of the shift differential. You can take the CMT or RMT but remember even if you spend all that time and money and pass you still will not make more than the top of your tier anyway.

But of course we are in a catch-22 here. If people work faster like they tell us to the company will decide that the "technology" is doing such a great job that they can cut the ASR rate and then we are right back where we started. I know stories of people who just send through ASR reports without listening or speed up the volume so fast they miss every other word or others who work off the clock. Those make you money too, they just might get you fired in the process.

When can you ask for a raise time frame

There's no "time frame" ... - MT2

[ In Reply To ..]
Like the above poster said, M*Modal never gives raises. You could literally work your whole life with this company earning what you earned the day you started.

Ask away.

I am a tier 2 and have never wanted to be a tier 3. I make the same as most tier 3's and I don't like ops so it is great for me. You can take the test to be a tier 3 and maybe get a raise but don't count on it. I am at the top of the pay scale and haven't had a raise in probably 10 years. They said that if I wanted a raise, I would have to tier up but then it isn't guaranteed so I said forget it. I am not going to do ops and look up everything and make less money. No thanks. I will stay forever a tier 2. Even if you have been here forever, you don't have to be a tier 3. Do what is best for you and if you do tier up,don't ever expect a raise. It usually doesn't happen

They make it impossible to tier up anyway - just saying

[ In Reply To ..]
I am a tier 2 also and tried to tier up several times They either lost my test, sent it to the wrong email address or sat on it so long that the test was invalid. If they really want people to tier up they have a funny way of encouraging them. They also told me that if I tiered up I would have more work available to me. Seems like everyone is running out of work, not just those below tier 3.
I agree with you - about tiering up
[ In Reply To ..]
I am a tier 2 MT too and there is just not enough incentive to me to want to tier up although I have thought about it in the past. Hey create a negative work enviroment for your employees and you get a negative attitude. For what one more work type, WOW, NJA everyday is NJA and in my opinion one more work type to me is not going to make the world of difference. Plus, I think they would find every reason in the book not to give a raise. It just seems like a lot of extra added stress for low pay. Sorry, it is just how I feel.

It is sad to work for a company who hardly ever gives raises (which is really almost never). Every other place I have worked gave raises and you did not have to plead, beg, borrow, or steal to get it. Heck, I worked here I do not know how long before I found out you have to actually ask for a raise. I dunno sounds kind of crazy to me. That is part of how you show your employees you value them and reward them for doing a great job. Hey MModal did you ever hear of cost of living raises!!!! Betcha Vern and Ames get raises or something equivalent.

Tier 3 pay - cr

[ In Reply To ..]
I'm a tier 3 and only get 4 cents for editing and 9 cents for transcribing, but what few transcribing jobs I get are short and horrible. I work part-time and generally only make minimum wage.

I just thought this was funny but I was looking at my stats in utilipro and it said my next review and raise would be in 2007. Ha ha. I think they are running a little behind.

If that wasn't so sad it would be freaking hilarious - nm - anon

Had 3 raises until 2000, then 4 pay cuts from 2000 till now, and also a Tier 3 since day 1.

Oh my gosh. I could have written this post. - ME TOO!

[ In Reply To ..]
Been here since 1997. Had one interview and here I am today. I have also had 3 raises my lifetime and the last one I fought for since I was MT of the month 3 times and would get calls in the middle of the night to do stat reports.

I am now making about the same or less the day I started with this company in 1997. What did it for me was being "grandfathered" in and the huge paycut a few years ago. Makes me sick the more I think about it. I happen to live in a state where the minimum wage is extremely high, more than California and to think I could work at Michales or at a movie theater and make about the same pay or more than what I have been doing typing since 1997 makes me want to throw up.

my supervisor said the difference between 2 and 3 is 3 types operative notes in addition to all work - tier 2 types all worktypes except op notes

OPS, Tier II Vs. Tier III: Let Me Break This Down For You...
Jan 28, 2010

You can call yourself an MT and work for: 1.  A single provider nonspecialist. 2.  A multiprovider/multispeciality clinic. 3.  A primary hospital. 4.  A secondary hospital. 5.  A TERTIARY hospital.   You can do "ops" with any of these jobs.  However, at a tertiary hospital you will have patients who have failed treatment at primary and secondary hospitals.  Tertiary hospitals are teaching and research institutions where you will encounter research p ...

Tier Up
Oct 15, 2009

I was just informed that I HAD to tier up.  Has anybody else been told that one?  I don't want to tier up.  I don't get much NJA and I like the accounts I work on.  I was told that I MIGHT get a raise if I did, but there was no guarantee.  Why would I want to tier up without getting a raise doing the next tier's work?  I just don't get it and I never will.  ...

Do you type ALL work types, including tier 1 and tier 2, correct?  My CCM implied that tier 3 does ONLY operative reports?? I'm tier 2 and I think I would like to try OP reports, as I've been tier 2 for quite a while.  Don't want to NOT do consults and H&Ps though.  Not expecting a raise of course, but would just like to try something different.  And maybe get NJA less often.   What do you all think?     If you do type all, what pe ...

Tier 1 And 2 Get All The H&Ps
Mar 03, 2012

This really sucks because those reports have the highest line counts, while Tier 3 does all the testing reports such as cardiology, eeg, cath reports, and surgeries. While straight typing pay may be higher for Tier 3, everyone makes the same for VR. My vent for the day. Sorry if I offended anyone. ...

Tier 3
Apr 06, 2013

What might be  happening is MM is keeping high producing Tier 3 employees and India will get all the easier work.  Tier 3's in America will do the hardest dictations and worst dictators.  The MME's in America will then be correcting more work because India will be doing everything else.  Just trying to figure out what is going on. Also, I think MM had to do something about the no work situation, either get more accounts or layoffs.  They decided layoffs. Than ...

There Must Be A Lot Of Difference In VR For
Oct 17, 2010

I have never been able to run much above 150 lph average doing VR for my company.  It is so horrid, I can usually type it quicker.  I cannot even imagine how anybody is doing 400-500 lph average.  Just pulling in the jobs, listening through patient information, filling in date of service, consulting physicians and such, fixing the ASR dictation and uploading the job -- there is no way on this earth it will ever happen at my company.  I need a new job apparently.  ...

Just How Many Tier 3s ARE Left?
Mar 02, 2010

I hit the ceiling last week and quit after 12 years with MQ part-time. I started as a tier 3 and ended as a tier 3.  Topped out.  I was making close to $20/hr and ended at $10/hr thanks to ASR.  My submission rate was apparently too high for them for Jan and Feb.  Well, what do they expect?  Shyte dictation equals shyte transcription, but I'll be damned if I am going to risk someone's life just to fill in a blank, and this was before they rolled out this "First ...

Tier Question
Apr 14, 2010

I work for another MTSO too that doesn't have the tier system.  I get just whatever report comes into my job pool from clinic to ops.  I've been at MQ for about 3 years now.  CCM keeps wanting me to tier up to tier 3 so I can start doing the ops notes because we don't have enough 3s right now.  However, I won't get a raise by tiering up.  To me the only incentive to tier up would be more money.  After I told CCM that I wouldn ...

Do You Have To Be A Tier 3 To Take The CMT Exam?
Aug 10, 2010

I despise even doing it at all but I want out of this place and I think having it will help my chances of finding a different job.  Do you have to be Tier 3 or is that not even a consideration to ADHI?  On that note, are there any Tier 2's here who have their CMT?  Do you actually get that so-called extra incentive at MQ for being one?  I know some other companies offer an incentive. ...

Going Up To Tier 3...worth It Or No?
Jan 03, 2013
