I work for another MTSO too that doesn't have the tier system. I get just whatever report comes into my job pool from clinic to ops. I've been at MQ for about 3 years now. CCM keeps wanting me to tier up to tier 3 so I can start doing the ops notes because we don't have enough 3s right now. However, I won't get a raise by tiering up. To me the only incentive to tier up would be more money.
After I told CCM that I wouldn't do it without a raise first, I'm suddenly getting ops reports but my MT status is still the same. I don't understand why this tiering system is in place if the CCM can just override it and give you the work anyway. I don't mind ops reports at all but if it's suppose to come with additional money, then I should be getting a raise even if I didn't tier up. When I asked CCM about the ops, I was told that I was in too low of a tier for my experience and SHOULD have been doing ops from the start. CCM says the ops will stay in my pool and when I decide to actually test, then we can discuss a potential raise.
What do you think? Should I test and officially tier up anyway without the guarantee of a raise or just stay where I am and do the occassional ops that comes my way? I think it's a **** if I do and **** if I don't type of situation.

[ In Reply To ..]I would tell her that if you are TOO LOW OF A TIER FOR YOUR EXPERIENCE, then the recruiter or human resources should have offered you more money right off the bat and that had you known you would be doing OPs, that you would have insisted on more money, and that either they take the OPs off your work pool or give you a raise to keep doing them retroactively to when you started receiving them!
My Tier III - story
[ In Reply To ..]I had asked for a raise and was told I needed to take the Tier III test first; this was under a previous supervisor 2 years ago. I did not pass and got a raise. Mind you, this was several years back. I had asked for another raise a couple of years later and again was asked to take Tier III test and I was promised a raise if I passed. I did pass the second time, but it took about 6 months of nagging to get that raise, but I finally did.
I would talk to someone above your CCM about this. She should not be giving you OP notes. Then, with the "we will talk about a raise then..." That is not going to happen. I would get it in writing that if you pass Tier III you get a raise. You should not be getting OP notes without being a Tier III.

Do you type ALL work types, including tier 1 and tier 2, correct? My CCM implied that tier 3 does ONLY operative reports?? This really sucks because those reports have the highest line counts, while Tier 3 does all the testing reports such as cardiology, eeg, cath reports, and surgeries. What might be happening is MM is keeping high producing Tier 3 employees and India will get all the easier work. Tier 3's in America will do the hardest dictations and worst dictators. Has anybody ever passed the tier 2 test?? This is my second attempt at passing it and it seems impossible. You can't slow the transcription. You can't understand the words before and after the privacy tones. It's like they don't want you to pass, succeed, and reach a higher level. My regular work reports are easier to do than anything on that test, even the ESL doctors! ...
